Clevelands House Resort - The Rock Golf Course and Grill Review

I picked it up randomly and turns out it s one of the best places in Muskoka! It was our 5th Anniversary and the views, environment and everything else added a bonus for our special day! We were in the Main Lodge on 3rd floor. Before booking the room I made sure about the views... we loved the room and the view from Living Room was breathtaking but from Balcony the views were not clear because the trees are in full bloom. I wanted to spend much time in the balcony but we didn t because the views were not clear. But yes I loved sipping my morning coffee in the balcony specially in Muskoka Chair . But there is a problem in Washroom... there is hot and cold water in washbasin but if you want to take bath... it s cold as ice. So we didn t took bath and came back home the next day. Thank god we booked just for 1 night.

There are few more details which the staff didn t told us while booking and didn t received any confirmation email so I called them few days later for the emails which I didn t received again and wanted to ask few amenities but didn t got the exact answers (after asking several times through the phone) that there is mini fridge in the room... many plugs and you can charge your phone, use your hair straightener if you are bringing with you... there is a tv, actually two tv... one in Living Room and one in bedroom... I liked it very much but didn t watched anything because The Views If you are a vegetarian and bringing food with you then there s just one microwave which is downstairs and it s near the reception in a small room where you can find a vending machine as well.

Since we visited in May summer activities are not happening. On the phone we were being told that Golf is complimentary because of May season but upon reaching they told us that they don t have equipments right now and it ll be available in June(of course the rates will touch the Sky starting in June so we have to compromise with somethings because May rates are very affordable).

Anyways I m glad to see Muskoka with so beautiful views. Maybe in future we ll visit Clevelands House Resort but I would prefer if they could take care of the water that we use for bathing in our room... it was cold and we didn t made any complaint too because we were happy with rest of the experience and didn t wanted to ruin our mood just because of this one issue.

Pie Wood Fire Pizza is the great place to have a pizza... until now it was the best pizza I had in Canada.

And yes I recommend this place to anyone planning to visit Muskoka.

The pizza at PIE is excellent. My kids ordered mac and cheese which was pretty bland. My wife ordered the arugula salad and asked for chicken on it but they didnt have chicken so she ordred salmon expecting fillet. Instead it was a heap of smoked salmon. Stick with the pizza!

The resort is currently closed and appears that the owners are allowing it to go "derelict". Sad that such an iconic place is going by the wayside.

Something you can't control.

Things you can control are the general disrepair and neglect that appears to be happening here. Deck boards at the boathouse that could give way at any moment, heaved concrete at the water's edge, uneven pathways running throughout the property, submerged walkways leading to cottages after heavy rain...

This is part of the service industry and customers should be the focus! If summer staff are expected to be housed in a delapidated structure with black mold, try to get sleep whilst their co-workers are partying till all hours into the night, having to see evidence of vomit from the partying, have a "no noise" at all times contract that is not enforced..

How customer centric do you think this place will be?

We ate an early dinner at PIE wood fire pizza, and the food is average at best. You pay a massive premium for the location and view (great roof top patio).

For perspective, a pint of beer can run you over $10.

Its a good spot and you'll enjoy the view, location , and especially if you can get a seat for the jet ski show on Monday evenings in the summer. Just don't expect tasty food.

Great place for an out of city getaway. Lots of things to see and do for kids and adults. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms are very clean and very spacious. Highly recommended

had been 20+ yrs here with family in some of the better years, past 5 or so a bit up and down and in 2020 they were closed and broke the history of longest continous operating family resort. Went elsewhere but it was not the lakefront tradition we loved so much, I hope they do not go ahead with the plans to be a townhouse village. Yes some of the buildings should be torn down and the pool repaired or replaced but there are many features that are quite serviceable and should continue to operate. I hope there are families out there of many generations who like the cottage for what it is/was and don't want a perfect little white box packed with a wide screen and memory foam! Antiques and history are something we should embrace, not discard. The experience of the Sequin and amazing wood boats built locally is far superior to an hour on a jet ski! Although Covid and the floods took their toll I believe It's not to late to keep what we once loved and I hope people take note of what can again be a gem on the big lakes, as we search for alternatives they just don't measure up to the history we've enjoyed at Cleveland's house resort.

The room I had here was really sketchy at first. When we came in we had no running water, and some rooms didnt have any hydro. The front desk staff didn't let us know there was an issue when we checked in after a round of golf. When we asked about it the guy at the front desk just shrugged his shoulders. The food was great both at Pie and the inhouse restaurant. Get the breakfast eggs special. The absolute best thing about this place is where it is. Sitting down by the water reading a book is amazing.
