This is not only an Animal Shelter. The Newwestminister towing company shares this space. So if your heading here due to your vehicle being towed don't be surprised by the shelter sign. The behind desk staff member was pleasant and helpful when I arrived to this dual business location. I was entertained by a rather large cat behind the wait window trying to get an employee's lunch. So if you want to rescue an animal or need to pick up your towed car then this is a good choice.

Fabulous shelter! Very clean and the animals are very well looked after. The staff are very knowledgeable, show great affection for their animals and are kind and patient with kids. Great job and thank you for your time.

The receptionist (middle to late aged women) was the rudest attendant I had ever encountered In such a capacity. However, the Bylaw and animal control staff were courteous and caring individuals. It's a shame to see someone who doesn't acknowledge a person at the counter , after they've said hello and made eye contact ....

Super Friendly. They were very nice and helpful. We are in love with Chai, our new cat. Excellent place to adopt a friend into your home. Please take a look at their animals before you consider purchasing one from a store or breeder. The best pets come from the pound.

Nothing but GREAT things to say about the NWAS!

Nothing but GREAT things to say about the NWAS!

The staff are patient, kind, caring, and take what they do seriously.
They are also very fair with the adoption process - remember that their job is to ensure the BEST for the animals so that they don't end up back at a shelter again. This may come across as strict for some but it's in the best interest of the animals.

The facility is small (and possibly underfunded) but it is VERY well maintained (did not smell of urine/feces).

We went through the foster to adopt process when we got our dog, then known as "Jerome Von Wigglesbottom" now Zeus @zeuswildadventures ,and we were very well informed and taken care of from start to finish. Zeus is now 2.5 years old and the shelter staff still reach out via social media to see how he is! We are about to about to adopt a kitten from them and are so happy to be able to support such a caring, hardworking facility and staff.

THANK YOU!!!!!

Beautiful digs for the animals. Unfortunately, I found out from their website, not staff, that the animal I applied for was adopted by someone else. I actually had to call THEM to find out this information. Very disappointed.

It was a nice hike there, if you don't have a vehicle. But other than that, they treated my dog with care and attention. Did follow up on my pet, and had real consideration for her needs. Thank you. A bit expensive for new pet owners though. If that ever is in a budget for us or not?!? Would be a nice thought for others that lose their pet by freak accidents.

We went in to pay a 10$ late fee for our dog s license and later that same day they mailed us a 150$ bylaw infraction ticket for having an unlicensed dog. This smells fishy to me - did they use our paying the late fee as evidence that we still have a dog? Do not recommend.

I went in to pay a parking ticket and thought I would have a look around at the cats while I was there as I am getting ready to adopt another cat.
All staff I met were friendly, courteous and very helpful. I got to meet about 10 cats, all of which looked very well taken care of and happy. The staff also are very apparent in their love of animals and knew a fair bit about each one. The place was very clean and organized, when I'm ready to adopt another cat this will be where I do so.

Support you local shelters. If you can adopt, adopt. If you can't don't let it end up here because it stopped being cute. Thanks to the wonderful staff for showing us around and letting us meet a few potential next best friends.

Very clean and spacious shelter, and incredibly nice staff. We adopted our kitten there in July and the staff was so nice and very knowledgeable about each of the animals. We also loved how clean and spacious the rooms were. Thank you for a very smooth adoption process.

New Westminster Animal Service does it all. Cruelty investigations, Bylaw Enforcement, rehabilitation of neglected animals, adoption of unwanted animals, community outreach and more. Its a non-euthanasia shelter. The staff care about people as well but draw a hard line where animal cruelty is concerned. The shelter has a very loyal following of volunteers.

Apparently people cant seperate their personal feelings from their profession. Some personal items were removed our pet as they didnt like it and were confiscated. Now none of it was against the law or inhumane, just a worker s own personal problems.
