One of the most beautiful Catholic churches you ...

One of the most beautiful Catholic churches you will ever see both literally & figuratively, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Park Avenue & 84th street in NYC.
On the steps the Grand doors open in the front of the Cathedral to a warm welcoming by the beauty of a good-hearted soul welcoming you to join in the Ignatius way of prayer. The Cathedral is one of the largest & most beautiful you will find. The sound of the large Organ pipes vibrate through the church and enlighten. The churches choir is one of the best I have Ever herd, with many prominent singers & dance artists. Every week my family enjoy the walk across the park to join in the Mass at the church. There is a more formal mass upstairs in the main cathedral and in the basement there is a more less formal mass for all to join. The basement mass is Great for families with little kids that want to make a little noise or need to get up and get out some jitters & maybe run around the room a bit. The basement also has a Great band usually & choir. The basement is very large and has a kitchen as well if you need to store & food. There is also refreshments like coffee & cookies or something after mass served with a social presence with your fellow friends & family of the church in the basement One thing issue or con is there is not a handicap wheel chair entrance at the front of the church. At least not yet in 2019 but I believe that the Parish is working on funding for one.

A very expensive school application process leading to a bias evaluation process against bilingual children. No initial explanation for the reasons why admission was not granted. Upon contacting the school, the reason was given that during the evaluation process, evaluator could not comprehend the 4 year old child. Do not apply if your child is billingual. It's disappointing that a Blue Ribbon awarded school, which puts the emphasis on teaching Latin, doesn't value billingulism. Pope would be ashamed given he has been communicating repeatedly on acceptance and importance of other cultures.

At this iconic Church served by the Jesuit Society I attended an. Ecumenical Thanksgiving service with choirs, clerics. and congregations of every faith.. My own Dominican pastor from St. Vincent Ferrer Church was among , proclaiming a message that there were "no enemies" among us.. It. was a time of inspiration enhanced by the kindness and welcome of our Jesuit hosts and fellow attendees.

Beautiful church, the stained glass and structure of it are wonderful. Marble stones decorate the walls along with a beautiful high ceiling ceiling.
This church looks historic and feels modern.

I have always had a great experience every time I have attended this church. It ismy church if choice when I visit the city. The church is beautiful and the Mass times are very convenient.
My last visit was on Christmas Eve and the quality of the choir, organ and additional musicians made me feel as though I had been listening to a choir from Heaven. I have never heard a better choir performance anywhere. The music was awesome!
The singing and organ play have always been great when I have attended the Mass on Sundays, when I have visited there. I highly recommend this church to those who live in the area or are visiting the city.

I loved visiting this church during the Christmas holidays. My parents were married here in 1944, and I was baptized here a year later.
We are going back on the coming weekend to attend mass and then go to the Met for a visit.
Much more beautiful then st Pat's .

Gorgeous church on Park Ave. You will be blown away by the interior since the exterior is rather subdued. It is a very handsome looking structure though. There are so many different types of ornate marble used on the inside as well as stunning architectural details and designs on the walls and ceiling. The stations are large marble mosaics on the wall and were designed by a company in Venice. The baptismal font is also extremely decorative. You should definitely pay this church a visit if you are in the area. One of the most beautiful in NYC.

This is one of the most beautiful churches in New York. Sunday mass, especially the one at 11:00 a.m., is simply spectacular. This church has very inspiring priests and the music offerings are out of this world. The schola cantorum, normally accompanied by a glorious Mander organ, will elevate your spirit. I miss this place so much!

St. Ignatius Loyola Church is not a very good venue for this group. First of all, it is a church. There is no space for a waiting audience. It is necessary to wait outside in the cold and then to be packed into the tiny vestibule leading into the church. Second, the church did not organize entry very well. Only after the crowd entered the vestibule did they try to make a line leading into the church. By then the vestibule was packed and the waiting audience couldn't move. Third, the church is COLD! The music is beautiful and but the sound in the church gets lost. Into the bargain it is necessary to keep your coat on during the performance. I went to see Chanticleer when they performed at The Metropolitan Museum and at St. Ignatius. The Metropolitan Museum was by far the more hospitable venue. It is a shame that such a wonderful singing group is presented in such a cold, inhospitable venue as St. Ignatius.

Wonderful. Protestor outside church was berating pastor before mass (sign of time). What does the pastor do? Gives a beautiful sermon on the need to listen, avoid knee jerk defensive reactions, have strength to look honestly at ourselves and the love to be inclusive.

Went in one afternoon while in the area. Spent about half an hour while on a break. I would love to hear mass in that church one day. It felt very quiet and peaceful to relieve some stress from being out and about in the city. Loved it and would recommend it to anyone looking for that kind of quiet.

I attended a Christmas Concert at St. Ignatius on December 22nd just before the holiday and it was inspiring. Between the magnificent church , the excellent singing and the program itself, I was deeply touched and appreciative.

I've never been to the Vatican, but I imagine that it must be similar to this place. Visiting St. Ignatius Loyola for a wedding this past weekend, my wife and I were absolutely amazed by the architecture the detail on this stunning church. From the ornate organ to a ceiling of frescoes and designs that can only be described as a"Cistine like", we were captured by the beauty and holiness that this place evokes. If you can even stop in for a moment you will be amazed.

The Chorus is outstanding, the best. The Building is gorgeously filled with so many decorations that are difficult to count. Appreciating everyone of them could take hours. Everything is well maintained and clean. Visiting this Church is an unforgettable experience.

An absolutely spectacular Roman Catholic Church of neoclassical design. Plan to go at high mass when Fr. Bergen or Fr. Yesselonia are conducting the sermons. I truly wish the excellent choir would perform more traditional classics and get out of the 20th Century repertoire!!!

I must admit I never knew of this church at that location. I passed by the church and walked so fast that I barely notice it but yet it has presence. Slmetimes6, I almost forget the treasures if Manhattan. Yes, right in the City we have many beautiful places including magnificent churches. I hope that no one overlooks this gorgeous church. They even offer tours. Take a look at my pictures, to obtain date and time.

Great acoustics for the Chanticleer concert. We were two or three miles back from the altar and the music was exquisitely clear. A note for the future which is to focus lights on the performers which will avoid the sense of being in a large train station where every color is muted and gray. A couple of brilliant spots would have made the day since the audience wants to see the performers.
