1 Month Update - No one has contacted me about our extremely poor stay at Cheeca Lodge, despite their response to my initial review saying someone would reach out to me. Guess that was just for show?

My siblings surprised my husband and I for our 40t...

My siblings surprised my husband and I for our 40th anniversary with a 3 night stay at Cheeca Lodge. We do agree with other reviews that the room (Premier King with jacuzzi on the balcony) was superb and the grounds are beautiful and Earl, at the front gate was the friendliest, and the valet/bellhop staff are top notch. BUT, let me share several points that we felt did not warrant the price you pay to stay here-
The staff WAS NOT that friendly-infact, most of the time, they appeared very disorganized, It took 3 hostesses to seat only a handful of people who were waiting and there were several tables open. The area where they say is a "salt water snorkeling" area is dirty, few fish at all in it and was only about 15 inches deep. When I inquired about snorkeling in there, a staff member said that he wouldn't recommend it because it is fed off of the Atlantic and possibly a barricuda could be in there. Overheard a bartender telling a guest that the BEST place on the island to eat at was a place down the street.(Didn't even promote one of the restaurants there on the resort) Speaking of the restaurants-they are extemely overpriced-unbelieveable! Even a soda I bought one day while on the beach was $3.25 (for a glass of sprite) The extra $39.00 a day fee they charge (plus, they tax that amount also) includes a few extras (bicycles, golf clubs, kayaks, tennis racquets and fishing rods as available) Our room overlooked the golf course and we hardly ever saw anyone golfing, no one on the tennis court and a handful on the kayaks. Any of the fun activities to do all included a fee-roughly $50.00 per person-we did do the Sunset Cruise and it was great-Capt. Dave & First Mate Todd were entertaining and informative. What this place is lacking is some form of entertainment-even a 2 man guitar playing group at the Tiki Hut would have been something instead of listening to two TV's on the Olympics and a basketball game. Also, listening to the bartenders "hitting" on 3 single ladies the entire time we were there and no one could hardly get a drink because they were too occupied with flirting. There was never a "daily drink special" or, any type of snacks around during the day. Hamburger is $15.00 and only had 3 types of pizza to choose from. Hate to complain so much, but this was just such a disappointment for us! We have traveled for years and have been to many places-this one just didn't do it for us! If you are looking for a place whereby you spend $620.00 a day for just your room and "extras" and then are willing to pay for all your overpriced meals and drinks (roughly $10.00 each) and are content with laying around all day with no music ever playing and hardly see anyone even laying out on the beach and have the staff not treat you like a king & queen (which they should for these prices) then, this place is for you! Needless to say, we will NEVER return there again nor would we ever recommend this place to anyone! Sorry-I'm just telling it like it is!

were deeply disappointed. Price-performance is no longer right here. Here someone benefits from the good situation and the better old days.
Unmotivated employees for whom every movement of the mouth probably causes pain! I've never seen anything like that listless from the front desk to the cheeky carboy (who parks the cars), but everyone keeps their hands open for tips.
It's such a nice hotel, but the service depends on the staff.
Rooms are rocky and noisy, but clean.
The only bright spot is the restaurant next to the lobby.
Delicious and rich, nice staff. Otherwise it would have been 1 star. Conclusion: Much too expensive for bad service!

Not impressed. We drove down from Ft Lauderdale and did a weekend stay. We were expecting luxury but this simply is NOT the place. The service was good but slow and the waitstaff were obviously brand new and not trained well. One literally gave me a 24 oz pour of wine that was clearly supposed to be a 6 oz pour. I didn t mind that so much. The most entertaining part was watching the fisher people pull in a bull shark off the pier. The rooms were standard. Nothing special. We had problems getting our key cards to work. This place is WAY overrated. But we did have a fantastic tennis lesson -great instructor and fun people to play with!

Check-in was a little complicated but no fault to the resort, complications with the bank card and us being out of town. Summer at the welcome gate did a great job and was very patient with us. Management also helped us out and we really appreciate it.
The area that we had to drive through was flooded and I was worried about my car stalling, it did not but I doubt we will be driving out anytime soon. The elevator in our building is also down but they offered to assist with our luggage with I thought was very accommodating.
The only thing that I'm confused about is that we purchased a package and should have received a card so we could get our discount throughout the resort. Summer at the gate referred us to the front desk who then referred us to someone, I got aggravated and gave up. Not a big deal, everything was worked out the next day.
So far everything in the room looks amazing! Very clean and spacious. We are staying in a one bedroom suite, highly recommend!

Yesterday (Monday) my husband and I went out on the pier and he jumped off in the water and hit his ankle on something resulting in two lacerations that required 13 stitches. There were no signs warning us of possible hazards or shallow water. There was a ladder to climb up from out of the water which led us to believe that it was ok there, I would be very cautious if going swimming off the pier.

Last night we dinned at the resort and I want to give a special shout out to our server Mo and the manager Jason. They did a spectacular job. Our honeymoon dinner was extra special and they treated us like family. I absolutely recommend having the apple cobbler for desert! It was one of the best I've ever had. Also the Conch Frite appetizer was delightfully delicious! My husband and I were a little worried because we werent sure what it was but once our server, Mo, described in perfect detail what we would be getting it was a no brainer!!

We have spa coming up and cant wait, I will post more later!

I ve been trying to come up with a fair evaluation, since we were here in COVID Times , and have never stayed here before. Cheeca Lodge is wresting with the many issues, like all of us.

The staff is coping well, with masks, distancing, new rules and holding doors open to prevent unnecessary contamination. All felt safe!

Our room with tub on the balcony and ocean view was fantastic.

Suggestion: equip the cleaning staff with a gas station-like wand, complete with sponge and squeegee. The view is not quite the same with filthy windows; I just did it myself, as far as my senior height of 5 5" would allow . A cup of water with shampoo in it per sliding glass door + washcloth & then wipe dry =

My only complaint is, when we checked in they failed to tell us about the guest activities available to registered guests. So for 2 days we did not know. We actually overheard another guest talking about the guest adventures. So 2 days we could've done things had we known.

Beautiful hotel and the beach access was nice. Room was spacious and comfy except a few problems with the room. Blow dryer was broken, shower leaked water onto the floor of the bathroom causing small puddles to form and the telephone was broke so we couldnt reach front desk for services.

Great Resort, set up perfect for a family vacation. My last stay in July was good, staff was nice and rooms were clean. They are almost back to where there were before Irma. Planning to bring my family back again next summer.

This comes from a passionate fisherman. This hotel is perfect for everybody who has a deep connection to the outdoors, or just would like to spend a night at a beautiful place. It is neatly decorated with quality fish mounts and pictures and let's the fishing heart beat faster. The hotel is very close to the world wide sportsman fishing paradise and the gorgeous bar/restaurant (Islamorada Fish Company) right at the marina. I loved every moment at this fantastic place, well worth a visit! I built a deep sentimental connection to this hotel also because I caught my biggest Tarpon in the Keys while staying at this place ...

Would be much better if city or resorts could do something about low tide seaweed issues...smell is just too much for visitors. If you can get past the smell of dead fish, there are a number of fun activities you can enjoy.

Had a two-night getaway to Cheeca Lodge and everything was wonderful. The staff are ready to accommodate any requests - although we had few. I highly recommend the Hot Shell Massage in their spa. The spa gets a 5 Star rating from me. It was wonderful.

Nice beach resort. I only give 4 stars because during our first night. One of their worker knocked our room and yelling outside offering free chocolates and stuff. But before my husband could open the door. She opened it herself. Too bad there wasn't any door chain to secure the door. It shocked me how can she do that lol but I still recommend the place though.

Awesome place to stay. The grounds are beautifully kept. The king suites are spacious and we'll appointed. There are great views of the ocean. They have resort amenities (golf, ocean kayaks, bikes, fishing) that are included. Great for families or a romantic couples get a way.

If you have pets, I wouldn t trust booking here...they might put you in the wrong room and tell you that your pets have to go but you can stay. Never again!!!

I had the worst customer service experience today. I have stayed here many times before with my pets. I booked a while ago, put in the notes that I was bringing my dogs and called to confirm the booking through booking.com was received only to arrive and be told I was not booked in a pet friendly room and no one saw the note of the 2 dogs coming.

Then I m told they don t have any pet rooms available so I can stay but not with my dogs. Mind you we drove 4 hours and had an event this weekend and booked way in advance.

It was their oversight to put me in a room that I couldn t have my dogs in. The manager told me they will speak to their team so this doesn t happen next time...what a joke and they literally turned us away.
I will never bring my business back here, and make sure everyone I know doesn t either.

We visited on 9/11 so that my boyfriend, a 9/11 first responder, could not think about the date. When I told this to the team member, Miralys, who was checking us in, she kindly upgraded our room, to his (and my) delight. The newly upgraded facility is just gorgeous, the beach is magnificent, the breakfasts delicious. And the room had a fabulous soaking tub facing the ocean! How decadent! The service was impeccable. Our only disappointment was that it took several hours for us to get into the room but oh well, we had to sit on the beach! Overall, a wonderful place. We look forward to another visit there.

Cheeca is my favorite place whenever I manage to get a couple of days off in a row. Staff is always friendly and on point, the food is great, and the resort is beautiful and clean. During my last visit however, Cheeca's staff went above and beyond to make us feel special. My sister and her husband came from out of town so we decided to spend a night in isla morada and of course there was no other choice but stay at Cheeca. Upon arrival and while approaching the check in desk we were greeted by Judith, she was warm and inviting and asked us how our drive was, offered us a glass of champagne and proceeded to check us in. While she was giving us directions to get around from the room to the amenities, Judith immediately noticed that we werent too happy with the distance from our room to the beach. She promptly offered us all the upgrades available and we decided to take on her offer. Our room was incredible, not only that she then followed up by calling us and leaving a voicemail on my sister's phone reminding us that with our booking we had a few extra perks. Judith truly made our experience jump up onto the next level. There is also a female server i always see whenever i go for lunch and she is incredible (wish i remembered her name). Cheeca is always a good idea, whether its just for lunch or dinner or a mini getaway from Miami's hysteria. This last stay though definitely exceeded my already elevated expectations from this resort and Judith and the rest of the staff we interacted with were a huge part of it.

We were really excited about our first visit and celebrating our 22nd anniversary. I made a note it was our anniversary when I booked, but no acknowledgment when we checked in... nothing. When the room we booked was truly unacceptable, Kassandra made it better. She was excellent and professional. The staff was very nice, Marcus on the beach was a pleasure. What a truly nice guy.
However one night we put in an order for early morning room service, 30 min after our scheduled time the next morning, it still hadn t arrived, so we called downstairs. They had no record of our order. 30 min later it arrived. With no silverware. The runner was kind and apologetic but we were frustrated. And then to see the $8 room service fee and $3 service charge added on was ridiculous. I should have argued it, but was just over it. Also, someone in the room above us was smoking the entire time and we could hear chairs dragging on our ceiling through the night. Pretty sure they were smoking and blowing it into the vents. We had to close the bathroom door to keep the smell out. Food was outrageously expensive. Can t say I ll be back... for the amount of money we spent, we expected top notch everything... and it was not there. Not sure if the staff was new after they reopened, but there seemed to be a disconnect.

Very romantic, but also great for families. Enjoyed all the options for the children. Only down fall was maintenance. Room was on the ocean with balcony hot tub, sadly 1 of the sinks was plugged, door to the bathroom was stuck. Mentioned to house keeping but nothing changed. For the cost, it should of been up to par. Pool area was also very dirty, they need to either clean or change the cushions on the lounge chairs. Our last night we decided to stay and enjoy the formal fine dinning restaurant on site. Sadly it was not a great experience. Family was all dressed for a nice evening to only again have very dirty seating (dirty cushions) service is another story. I think it was our waitress this time. Service was always wonderful other days. Front staff, valet, pool staff, and recreational staff was wonderful. Concierge was very friendly and was accomadting for reservations at other restaurants.
