Too few staff, waited ages to be served only to find out my first two drink choices were out. Ordered a burger but they'd ran out of buns at lunch time! Burger on bread was very underwhelming, a lot to pay for a very standard meal. Also noisy outside due to road.

Clean room with a fan. We booked the small double room which had a bigger bathroom than the actual room istelf. The teas and coffees were left in a very visible place along with a kettle and a tv. A downside to the room is that there was only one plug which i found in the room. Checking in and out was confusing as there wasnt someone who stayed in the lobby. However the staff we met were friendly. It is very expensive but worth it especially for the beautiful views of clifton!

Very bad service, forgot what food we had ordered. Un enthusiastic bar staff who wouldn't even tell us what wine was available "look in the fridge".
Had to chase twice to get our food order correct.

Nice interior since the refurb a few years ago and beer garden is good, though rammed in summer. Drinks are pricey. The prices are particularly punchy owing to the fact that's what you'd expect to pay in a craft beer bar or London! The food is underwhelming especially given the (fashionably?!) meagre portions coupled with inflated price tag for standard pub food. In short nice enough, friendly staff but overpriced across the board.

Well situated in Clifton in Bristol. I often go there when I call into Bristol. A good all-round hotel and bar. Great for holding receptions. I really can't fault the hotel. A good all round place to go day or night.

The garden is the main attraction of Channings. Although it's a decent local of mine, the interior always feels incredibly sterile and they very rarely have enough staff to deal with the days they do get busy (whenever the sun comes out).

Fairly decent draft selection which is what keeps me going back, but would only ever choose on a sunny day.

Grabbed a cuppa at the bar with friend. Small selection of decidedly average drinks. Barman might easily have been mistaken for a dazed member of public who'd accidentally wandered behind the bar.

Absolutely disgusting, the food is vile, undercooked and a poor excuse for a meal. The chef doesn t care about his standard of food and the staff are all unhelpful and lazy. I wouldn t even give a 1 star. Go elsewhere....

Come here for the beers, nice service and beautiful patio.

It s dog friendly. Well social distanced. The staff are absolutely lovely.

We had the sharing platter and it was pretty basic. Nothing to rave home about and deep fried but that s what we were expecting. Other meals looked like they were being enjoyed and we just went for pub fare

The staff are friendly, the location is lovely their outdoor area is especially nice. Prices are very reasonable. I have booked to have my wedding reception at Channing's so obviously think very highly of the place.

Excellent venue, great value, great food. The manager Dan is one of the best landlords in the business. Staff are great as well. Well ran and a great night out. Plenty of theme nights. Check it out.

This is a hotel that needs to refurbish its rooms, but clearly won't bother seeing as there is a massive demand for overnight stays in Bristol at the moment.
I was in a room on the second floor, and it was falling apart. The plaster was rotten, the towel rail was hanging off, and the bath panel was damaged.
However, I can imagine that the bar is a great place to be when it is in full swing, and the food was great. The staff were very friendly and helpful, both in the evening and at breakfast.
For those travelling, there isn't any car parking, find a space after 5, but you'll have to be away by 9. Bristol appears to be allergic to free parking.
Would I stay here again? God, no.

The building is beautiful and the outside terrace catches plenty of afternoon sun. The outdoor furniture, though, is in need of improvement or replacement. I visited on three separate occasions and, during each of them, the staff were singularly dismissive, unwelcoming, uncommunicative and disinterested. They really let the place down and, since there are plenty of other pubs around, I'll not return.

Great pub/hotel on a summers evening as the beer garden has plenty of room and gets the sun for most of the evening. A fair selection of beers, ciders etc and a proper "pub" menu serving fish and chips, pie and mash and suchlike. Inside room is limited but is on two floors so you can retreat downstairs as long as there isn't a function/event on. (Can be reserved for parties etc) Not enough staff for the amount of punters so expect to wait to get a beer in and order food. Has a Juke box and is loaded with some good tracks if that's your kind of thing. Fairly quiet and well located, parking is available (and free at certain times) Always top of my list when the sun is out.

I've never left a review before - but feel it's important to warn others before going here. Without doubt had the worst eating experience here. Staff were disinterested, slow, rude, uninformed, and at points were aggressive. My boyfriend is very allergic to nuts, and they were really unhelpful with this. When checking if there were any concerns, he was given an allergy book - confusingly set out - where (this wasn't explained to us) you had to check each element of your meal individually. They gave us the wrong book the first time, and weren't able to give us any advice themselves. When the food arrived, there was stuffing that looked like it had nuts, no-one working there had any idea if it did have nuts in - even though it's apparently a standard on every roast. After being told then we were supposed to cross reference every element on the plate in the allergy book (surely it should be done by whole meal as one, or at least tell the customer, if the customer is required to check this themselves to minimise any potentially life threatening risks?), the staff gave us the book to check again. When we mentioned to their staff that this hadn't been very clear, and with the potential for a dangerous outcome, they were aggressive, defensive and completely shook us off. No apology about this, and we were completely shouted down - I (and many of the people I was with) have worked in customer service and as a waitress for years, and I wouldn't dream of speaking to an upset customer like this. The food we had was very poor, potatoes and veg tasted/texture was like they had been reheated and were a day old, other food tasted like it was from packet mixes. Service was slow (food being brought out over an hour from ordering - and still then brought out in batches over 10 minutes so food was cold for some of our party when we started eating), and communication was bad between the staff - we were told multiple times by different staff members that a menu option had run out and would be swapped. The bathrooms were dirty too. After all that, we had to wait at a near empty bar to pay where staff didn't acknowledge us. It was almost funny - and a fitting ending to such appalling service. We very nearly just walked out - even after loudly speaking about this, the waitress in front of us didn't even make eye contact with us. I've been to multiple Greene King pubs and never had anything like this. Such a shame as it's a beautiful setting with a beautiful beer garden - there's so much potential, if the service hadn't been like this.

Tough times for the hospitality sector but the Channings is well set up with excellent social distancing processes and very good order at table app, well-kept Greene King ales, very nicely cooked food and remarkably friendly and welcoming staff. Well worth trying. Recommended.
