Its friendly. Old world crumble to experience. Had a little view out down to union square from our room. Needs more upkeep. Bar was fantastic for happy hour. Loved Alicia. Free coffee and biscuits in the lobby.

A lovely hotel in an excellent location close matter of a few minutes to Union Square. Staff very friendly and helpful. The lady in the bar is great. She makes wonderful cocktails and I recommend the Pumpkin Spiced Martini ! We were upgraded to a suite, thank you for that. Breakfast is good lots of choice. Why only 4stars because of no evening restaurant anytime, no bar snacks Sunday to Tuesday. Yes there are restaurants close by, but sometimes you really don't want to have to go traipsing around to find somewhere to eat, most places we discovered on a Saturday were a 2 hour wait!!! You do get free tea and coffee from the lobby and sometimes popcorn.

Cute hotel, located in a good area near shopping and dining. Crooked toilet is next to the front door. You can open the front door while sitting on the toilet. Maybe this won t bother you. It bothered us, then we laughed and laughed about it. We got used to it at the end of our stay. Very friendly staff. Clean hotel. Don t say I didn t warn you about the toilet. Breakfast next door at Sears is amazing.

The building is old, but the apartment looks good. The price and location are excelent. Very good for tourists since all public transport are close and free wifi. My only concern is the shower is 5'10", which is a little hard for medium and tall people.

Room very tiny and although advertised that there is a view this room faced a wall with pipes and a fire escape. Staff was friendly except the concierge was not very helpful. Tub can be hazardous because of its height. In general the hotel could use a little bit of an upgrade. Food at Luque's, the adjacent restaurant, was decent. Hotel is centrally located at Union Square, close to public transportation, entertainment, and restaurants.

Great little hotel right next to Union Square. Rooms are on the small side but perfectly usable and clean. Staff are friendly and helpful and there is a happy hour every day at the small bar.

The star of this hotel is Edith, the lady who seems to know every bus route and street in San Francisco. and will draw you a detailed map of any itinerary you may have in mind.

Would definitely visit here again.

I loved this place! very historic. built in 1914 but pristine, clean and professional staff. could not find one thing wrong. plenty of products in the room. no dust or dirt to be seen. its like you stepped back in time. we got a fab deal at hotel tonight. also the parking here was the cheapest in town. nice touches like a complimentary rubber ducky with your bath, comfortable bed. with it being very old, everything was working perfectly.

This hotel is perfection. A true gem. Perfect location, perfect service, and on and on and on. Just got back from a 4 night stay in room 1401 and my wife and I enjoyed every minute. +++ for the green rewards program. +++ for the fantastic trumpeter down on Union Square serenading us each evening. +++ for the front desk folks, so friendly and helpful. +++ for the cleanliness of the whole place. +++ for the historic charm. There are only 2 hotels that I have ever stayed in that I would be happy living in for the rest of my life. The Chancellor is one.

I used the luggage storage option with the bell man, this was so easy and convenient with my red eye flight. Even better, they do not require you to stay there to store bags. Just a little tip.

Great location, at the expense of giving up many comforts. Located right on Union Square, a fairly dated and renovated hotel, noisy (earplugs are provided in the bedside table). For the rest, good cleaning (even if my wife woke up one morning full of bubbles, we do not know if it was due to mites or some food, although she is not an allergic person). Exceptional friendliness of the staff. Excellent provision of hot drinks and cookies H24. Overall recommended

This is an okay hotel. It's old. The bathroom was remodeled but the toilet was up against the wall in the corner. Our bathroom window opened all the way and I could see into other people's rooms and bathrooms. The service here is exceptional. When you walk into the room, it is small but the walk in closet is huge. The air conditioning does NOT work... like at all. The only source of air flow was a fan found in the closet and the window open.

Awesome staff, very friendly and helpful. Rooms are small, but not a problem. This is a really beautiful old hotel. It was the tallest building in San Francisco when it was built. Great location also. No A/C in the rooms. It was beautiful weather while I was there, so with the windows open it was great. If it is hot outside it could be uncomfortable.

The location is very good, right next to the Federation Square, the transportation is very convenient, close to Macy's department store, convenient for shopping! Hotel room is small, good health! There are free refreshments in the lobby and the cookies are delicious! I stayed for a total of three days, and I couldn t help but get a few pieces every day!

Old hotel, but with clean decor, cleanliness and maintenance. Rooms do not have a / c, only ceiling fan. Free coffee, cookies and popcorn are available during the day. The food at the restaurant is very good. Great service.

Very much like a hotel in Paris. The room was small but well appointed and the staff extremely pleasant and eager to help. The cosy bar area was a highlight, with free popcorn, coffee and cookies. The location is so central to the city that it's a no-brainer recommendation.

It was old, but the room was quite spacious. There was also a walk-in closet and the location is convenient. However, it might not be worthwhile to be a bit noisy.
It has a large closet and heating.sometimes noisy but service was very nice. The hotel was old but the room was good and big enough to stay for two.

Finally a place that understands that very small "investments" can make a huge difference, such as simple coffee, tea, cookies and fruit available at the reception, comfortable pillows, internet that works in ALL floors (not only in the reception), etc. These add so much value to the hotel experience.

The room was just a little noisy, but it doesn t get much better around the Union Sq..

Ok

The hotel was great. Even though the hotel is older, the rooms were clean and maintained well (better than some newer chain locations we have stayed in). No air conditioning but it wasn't needed as an open window and the ceiling fan kept us comfortable during the entire stay. If you do open the window, the street noise is present (but they supply disposable ear plugs for your use). Free coffee and cookies 24 hours a day made for a nice quick snack upon returning to the hotel from our jaunts around town. Offered a number of different pillow types from their pillow menu. The Union Square location was excellent and the hotel is on the cable car route. Also, public transportation was readily available within a 4 block walk. Will definitely stay there again when I return to San Francisco.

This is a great little hotel in Union Square, right by the trolly station and super close to the BART as well. Friendly staff and nice clean rooms. Also, don't miss the breakfast in the restaurant just behind the lobby, as good as any of the nearby places at a cheaper price.

I would certainly stay here again. The staff are friendly, attentive, and just great overall. The hotel, and rooms, are clean and in a perfect location. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is that the water pressure isn't great. But that still isn't enough to keep me away.

Everything very organized, the attendants always have a smile and are ready to help !!!
Well worth it !!
They leave a flavored water in the concierge that never saw the same !!!!
Congratulations

Great location! Cozy rooms with helpful staff. Good eats all around. The hotels restaurant has great food and if you decline housekeeping they reward you with voucher to eat. Trolley passes right in front. Alicia the bartender is awesome. She knows the best local places to eat and visit.

Great we'll priced restaurant. Lovely wait staff. Much better than many offerings in Union Square. You don't have to be a guest to eat in restaurant.
Update, the venue has changed hands. The staff was inexperienced, order workers were replaced. The food was marginal. Unfortunate.

Quaint little hotel with pleasant staff. Pricy for what it was, but the location is stellar. Rooms were very small but clean. No A/C so window was open the whole time and lots of white noise from whatever was behind the hotel. Woke up to the smell of bacon every morning. Restaurant was good value, though not sure what you'd have to pay to buy a smile from the staff. Enjoyed the cookies in the lobby.

Enjoyed our stay in the hotel. Generally it seems rooms are tiny and old in San Francisco but we were pleased that at this hotel the room was a decent size and felt comfortable. The room had an old fashioned charm but nothing was worn out. We had breakfast in our room one morning and that was good and not ridiculously overpriced as many hotels are. Only disappointment was some building work meant our windows were covered over and we couldn't see outside.

Good

I loved the charm of this place! So historic and great attention to detail and adding up to date ameneties. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because there is no air conditioning but we opened the windows and used the ceiling fan and extra fan they provide and slept just fine.

***NO AIR CONDITIONING***Nice place, good location, friendly staff... I, however won't stay there again. The rooms Have no Air conditioners! I had a hard time sleeping becuse I was so hot. I didn't even know that decent hotels came without A/C. I wish I had known. My company books our rooms and have removed this hotel from the list as a result .I hate saying anything negative, but for me, A/C is a must. I base a lot of decisions now a days on reading reviews. I appreciate everything my fellow reviewers post, So I'm just being honest. Everything was great, But the A/C was a deal killer.. Im sorry for the negative post!

The rooms are solid, the atmosphere is relaxed, the prices are decent for Union Square, and the elevator is a little slow, but if you re here to do any kind of work be warned that there s a lack of obvious electric outlets due to the fact that this is an old hotel. Additionally, and this cannot be understated, the internet which is free is the worst I ve experienced since dial-up modems in 1997. It takes maybe 5 minutes to open Gmail if you re lucky enough to do so at all. It is absolutely infuriating that in a tech city like San Francisco that you could experience wi-fi like this. I had to tether my computer to my phone in order to get anything done, it was that bad.
