CHA does incredible work and is filled with staff and volunteers who really care about the animals. The shelter is the perfect size so no animal is overlooked, and people looking for their forever friend can get one-on-one support.

I have volunteered at CHA for almost 10 years. Staff members go above and beyond to provide enrichment for the dogs and cats while they're at the shelter. With over 400 volunteers and a small staff this organization could be described as small, but mighty. The building is clean and the animals are spoiled by staff and volunteers. CHA depends on fundraising events and donations to continue their mission to find homes for dogs & cats in Central Ohio.

I volunteer there to walk dogs every other week. Animals very well taken care of and loved by staff and volunteers. They are some of the sweetest and just want love. The facilities are well kept. The staff works hard to make sure the matches work. CHA holds various fund raising events a year to fill in needed funding gaps.

Stole a kitten from a family. Cutting off communication after taking kitten by force. Blocking anyone who even mentions it on instagram. Horrible business behavior if you ask me. Also treated them differently due to skin color. Searching through their Instagram I see nearly 0 minorities backing up that claim. Horrible disgusting behavior that needs to be looked into legally.

Took a dog for a two week foster to see how that dog got along with mine. However when I ran into issues with the dog, I was unable to call these people. They have no direct number. All you can do is leave a message or email and wait days for someone to respond. The only other option is to go across the city during the 3 hours a day or so they are open to speak with someone. But I have a job too. What if it was an emergency?
Despite this, the staff was great, and place was nice and well kept but impossible to communicate with in a timely manner.

I only have one complaint. They wont put holds on dogs. I went in and found a perfect fit for me and my dog at home. Stayed with him until closing and came in the next day. Someone else got there right before me and took him home. After I was already approved and made a little bond with the dog. A change in policy should be made he . Other than that they take really good care of the animals and I was glad to see people trying to make a difference

The people there are really nice but unfortunately nice is not equivalent to competent. My 4 month old kitten that I got from them about 5 days ago has a horrible infestation of tape worms even though the paperwork says they tested her and she was negative and they couldn't even tell me if her stitches were disolvable or not. If you get a pet from here do not trust the paperwork they give to you, take them to the vet

You can tell that the staff are caring and knowledgeable about the animals that they take care of here. They give you health information and a medical history of the animal you adopt so your vet has an idea of what to look for and keep your pet healthy! I adopted a beautiful little cat named Binx and he is the sweetest boy. Thank you CHA for giving me the opportunity to provide Binx with a loving forever home!

I am thankful for Ashley for taking my cat the one I found it by my door while it's a kitten, I lost my heart with him by giving him away because we are not allowed to have a pet and my landlord found that I have a cat. I am sure they are going to take care of it until someone adopts him.

Ok, first we got a beagle their and she is great. Now we were trying to get a new dog because the beagle we had was very lonely and was mourning the death of our terrier mix. But when we came to get a new dog it did not go as planned. We saw the dog on the cha animal shelter website and we said ok let s go get him. So we went and played with the dog in the room for a little bit. We fell in love with this dog it was so beautiful and playful. But we wanted to foster to adopt but they wanted us to bring in our beagle for a meat and greet. We asked if they could hold the dog for us but they could not do that. Another family was also looking at this dog. I don t understand why they would need us to bring in the dog. I do understand that the dog should meet but we did not want to go back home about a 15 minute drive to than another 15 minute drive back. Anyone could get this dog If they wanted to while we were gone they said. So we were about to leave and my grandma was the one buying the dog and she has a cane and doesn t look like she can walk that well. The guy said at the front desk I think with your physical ability you will not be able to care for this dog so you can not have it... that made her very upset because we were out the door ready to have this dog. Obviously my grandma started to tell the guy at the front desk that she has 3 grand children that could walk the dog and she could feed the dog. Yes she has 3 grandchildren that could have walked this dog but the man at the front desk decided himself that she could not handle a dog not even personally knowing her. And she was too old and couldn t do it. Or she can t walk good enough to own a dog. So we left very upset and we got in the car than left... We will never ever in any of our lives return to this shelter. And I will make sure that if anyone is trying to get a dog you can be too old to get one. Or if you have a problem you can t get a dog here. I really thought this shelter was good. I really did until this one incident.instead of caring for the people that come in to adopt a dog they discriminate. This Shelter is full of discrimination and I can t stand it. Please don t go here if you don t want to get told that your not good enough. Thank you

What they do is awesome. Their prices are great as well. 3/5 because when I got my adopted cat Berry home his back legs were literally covered in feces. His white fur was stained it had been on there so long. I didn't notice it while I was there or I would have said something. I thought maybe he went in the carrier I put him in, but he didn't.

CHA is one of the only animal shelters in central Ohio that is almost always accepting in cats (many others are always at capacity). The fact that this shelter manages to take care of and adopt out so many animals so quickly is a testament to its management and reputation in the community. It is important to keep in mind that the shelter is a NONPROFIT organization that relies heavily on volunteers. I have volunteered at CHA for a couple years now. Every volunteer and staff member I have met truly care about these animals as if they were their own pets. Most of us are just fellow pet-owners that do not have professional training with animals or personal knowledge about every animal the shelter has at any given moment.

CHA is the best animal shelter to work with. Pick any member of the staff and you ll be able to see how much they love and care for the animals. They are so knowledgeable about each and every one of their animals and are so helpful with any questions you may have. They helped me find the absolute perfect dog for me. They even have a foster to adopt program where you can have a sort of trial period with an animal to make sure they re right for you. I would recommend this shelter to anyone looking for a pet.

Looks like an old renovated house. Dogs are in standard smallish kennels, but seem to get walks very often. All of the staff was friendly and seemed to really care about the dogs. We adopted a dog. Would return if we ever wanted another furry friend.

We spent every weekend for at least 4 months looking for a pooch to adopt that met our needs and our apartment regulations. Then we stumbled upon CHA.
They were friendly, well ordered, clean and very understanding for new time adopters and how to handle animals. They really have a great staff and make you feel good about being a part of the adoption process. No pressure environment either.
They gave us our pride and joy two years ago Ruggs (formerly "Ecuador") and we still rant and rave about this place to this day.
Great work everyone!

Super friendly. Super clean. Super thorough with health information. They take time to give advice if you have other pets in the home how to ease new animals together.. AND they sent us home with high calorie food at no extra cost for our kitten. So happy we found our little guy here and got to donate and be a part of this great cause!

For CHA volunteers who see this: this kitten was named Mittens at the shelter. We named him Pedro or Pete (:

The best and most important thing I can say is the animals seemed very well care for! I appreciated seeing staff sitting in cages, cuddling and comforting the dogs. Sadly I had a poor experience with the staff. I was very interested in a dog who was on a medical hold from adoption and was very disappointed when I suddenly learned that a volunteer was taking her. There was no communication when the dog would come off the hold and no hint to me that would happen despite my obvious continued interest over several days. If you find a dog you like here and you (or your child) tends to get emotionally invested fast, make sure you get a straight and clear answer from them about their policy and plans for the dog. Or adopt quickly. I ended up working with a local rescue to find the dog I have now and appreciate the consideration and professionalism they showed me.
