Very nice "little museum" which traces the history of the city of Montreal. Located opposite the town hall, the castle also has a garden at the rear of the building. The visit is quick but very interesting and informative. The children who accompanied us also greatly appreciated. In short, I highly recommend!

The museum itself is the preserved home of a known Canadian figure, Ramezay. The layout is circuit like in structure, that is, the tour begins and finishes at the same location. As you enter and exit rooms you follow a circular pattern. The museum has been refurbished many times so all of the original artifacts and architecture are gone. In its place are diaromas, paintings, and furniture acquired centuries later (think 1900's). The tour can be co plates in 20 minutes in your own, with the tour guide an hour. The place was not what we expected. Most rude moment occurred when someone in my travel group was accused by an employee of stealing candy from the gift shop even though they had literally just purchased it and were in the middle of eating it. The cashier had to tell him they had just purchased it. He was not apologetic enough in our opinion. Totally set a ride tone to the trip.

For Small & Big is one of the museums to see when arriving in Montreal!
With the life and events experienced by the various occupants of this residence as a guide, educational and simple videos tell the story of Montreal. Do not miss the basement with disguises available and pieces reconstructed with the furniture where it is possible to sit in the scenery to relive periods of history.

Very disappointing! It is dark and, frankly, for the price we charge, we could give us access to the whole "castle". There are, however, floors ... Again: very disappointing. A tourist trap. Wait for Museum Day to go there. It will be free, so you will not feel like you've been robbed $ 15.00

This is a beautiful old home that really gives you a taste of what life was like in the early years of Montreal. The gardens are wonderful. The temporary exhibit of WWI memories and scents is very well done.

Really interesting little museum and there is a lot to see and read about. Mostly information about the history of Montreal, but has some information about the province and country as a whole. There's a part of the museum which has temporary exhibits, it was about World War II when I was there. Inexpensive, $8 per person and if you read everything it takes about an hour to go through.

The staff are approachable and friendly. They provide small group tours of the museum and invite questions. They also gave us ideas to increase volunteerism for a volunteer facility that we support.

Today we visited the museum with a group of 11 people. We were offered fascinating pastries of rolls of our own production. We beat the butter ourselves, kneading sugar in the mortars, kneading the dough under the guidance of a team of museum workers. I would especially like to thank Galina, who was our fun guide.
The museum itself is good for visiting and for holding children's parties.

The ground floor is organized chronologically, outlining the history of Canada with a backbone provided by events in the building itself. It's a sweeping picture, supported by many artifacts, but for me it was lacking enough detail to connect the events into a story.
The basement concentrates on life in the time of gouverneur Ramezay, and I found it much more lively and informative... The displays have little audio presentations available... But also a "more information" button that can keep you reading for hours!

We really enjoyed our visit. In addition to the tours in French and English there were lots of places to learn more about Montreal's history. The gardens were also worth a visit. We also enjoyed some of the ripe raspberries.

Went there for Free Museum Day. The displays were exquisite, and I also got to dress up in 18th-century New France clothing and participate in a quill writing workshop. It really felt like sailing back to a different time, and was a phenomenal experience.

Audio & visual presentations we're very easy to use and contained bits of humor. Very moving WW1 Flowers exhibit. Well worth the time & cost. Staff extremely nice as well as knowledgeable.

The garden was closed during my visit. The museum os not bad at all, but there is something missing to make the visit more interesting. The basement was very interesting, a reconstruction of how it would be during the time the house was used in the past.

A really nice exhibit inside a history-filled house. The guided tour was really informative... But doesn't cover the entire history or every room. They allow you to circle back after your tour to examine what was passed or items not seen while on tour. Staff was really friendly. Recommended for you history buffs, but others may enjoy this as well.

This "castle" was the home of the French governor of Montreal of the same name. There is finally a lot to see and discover about the history of Montreal.
This small museum is certainly worth the detour.

Definitely swing by if you have two hours to spare and are interested in the early and post-colonial history of Montreal. The artifacts and exhibits take you back to the city's founding and highlight the most important events in its history. The building itself is historic, starting out as the home of a former governor (after which the museum is named) and later converted to a wartime headquarters and then a university facility. For a building that is more than 300 years old, it looks remarkably intact and well maintained. Before leaving, be sure to check out the beautiful garden at the back of the museum.

The museum charges an admission fee ($11 when we visited). There are restrooms and a small gift shop on site.

Very good museum of Canadian history. Much to see at a very good price. The audios in the rooms are a bit long and boring. In my concept it is better to do the tour just by seeing and reading.

Interesting historical site worth a visit if you are a tourist in Montreal. On a holiday to Montreal from the UK we visited this property and would highly recommend, it gave a really good insight into both the properties history and that of Montreal as a whole.

It is in the heart of Montreal. Not a destination, but more of a stopoff or respite from 21st century living. The gardens in the summer are beautiful. A reminder of a self-sustaining civilization from centuries ago.

Interesting museum but would have like more information on the building and the rooms should be set up as their original use. Listening stations were not useful or informative. Nice garden in the back.
