Century Bar and Grill Review

Good bar happy hour, 2-5 pm good food, good service.

Very sweet staff! We showed up an hour before close during Spring Break and the restaurant was packed. However, they were able to accommodate us at the bar and we were able to order food. Food is very overpriced, but may be typical for such an isolated area.

Excellent! We had the seared scallops and fried wild boar. If I lived closer, I'd be here often.

Was an awesome dinner in a nice location. The staff are for the most part switched on and our favourite plate of food was the potato skins with bison. They are so good! Would defiantly recomend

A trip to this place is so worth it. This bar and restaurant are located in a beautiful old hotel. Patrons can dine in bar, inside, or on their beautiful patio. Food and service are great.

We ordered our food to go and waited about 1.5 hours before it was ready (burger and salmon) and when we received the order the salmon was cooked improperly. The bar staff was very helpful and offered a free drink for the inconvenience. The food was delicious but the kitchen needs improvement

The live music, especially Hall's Last Call, is marvelous as is their vegan dish: Spaghetti Squash

This was the perfect place to cap off our trip to the Big Bend region. We especially enjoyed the cocktails and sides (gouda mac and cheese, asparagus, and brussels sprouts). Definitely make a reservation if you're planning to come here on a weekend!

The restaurant is located in the building of Hotel Holland, has a bar and also a garden. The open kitchen seems to me a good sign.
The front desk was a bit chilly, the next service was a sunshine. The menu is meaty, but also offers fish. I opted for one and was not disappointed. As far as the side dishes are concerned, you are flexible here. I could replace the rice (which was too spicy for me) with other side dishes. The grilled zucchini were OK, the Brussels sprouts were a force. A plate of it would have made me happy. The dessert, on the other hand, was more of a disappointment. The ice too cold and the brownie underneath probably already two weeks old. Too bad. Because of the Brussels sprouts I would go again.

A bunch of cry babys whould love to punch the kitchen manager in the face went there and the food was horrible they treated me bad when I spoke up about the service and food steer clear of this cess pool

Did you know you could sit at the bar and order food? We didn t either! Wish the hostess let us know that instead of waiting 40 min before seeing other people get grub at the first come first serve seating bar area. Dinner (bison ribs and venison bolognese) was delicious and came out in a timely manner. I could ve eaten a plate of their sides - good mac and cheese.

I've been to the Century Bar on several occasions since it's opened & each time was pretty unremarkable. The service is good & the staff has always been friendly & attentive...things you'd expect. Recently, I was back in town & was able to give the grill part of the establishment a go for the first time. That part didn't quite go as expected. Our server was great...Michael, I think was his name. However, what started out as a great tasting Century Benedict ended up being a hairy affair & taking on a different name that I won't share in this review. Sunday brunch was a miss. The usual apology followed with the item being removed from the tab, but the disgust of having hairs in my meal isn't quite as simple to strike from memory. Better luck next time, I hope.

The food was good but a little pricey and it had cooled down by the time we got it. We arrived when they opened for brunch and the coffee wasn't ready for over 30 minutes after we ordered it.

Great cocktails. Their spicy bloody maru was outstanding.

We (5 of us) were there on a Tuesday evening. After reading previous reviews about great food but questionable service we were being extra observant. Bottom line is that service was great as was the food. Staff was super attentive and timely. We have nut allergies and all our concerns were addressed confidently. The outdoor courtyard was awesome. Only downside was the mac and cheese was not available. Was a super evening.

On my exploration of different areas I ran into this Bar & grill and was surprised on the food. I can't lie the price point was a bit high but it tasted pretty good I had ordered the Spinach artichoke dip which was really good and the Bison Ribs were juicy and tender.

What's not to love? Historic hotel and bar, great, attentive staff, good food, killer margarita. If you're in Alpine, this deserves your attention.

So we decide to go here because of all of the rave reviews. We enter on the bar side and make our way to the hostess. We ask for a table for four and are asked if we have a reservation. Keep in mind there is no line waiting for a seat. We say no and the hostess says well I will have to check with the kitchen and see if we have any tables available. So I think this place must be packed. After some time the hostess comes back and says it will be a 20 minute wait.

So while we wait we order some drinks from the bar. I order a mule then 5 min later the bartender walks up and tells me they ran out of ginger beer for the mule. So I then decide to order a cowboy old fashion. Worst mixed drink I have ever had and I really like Jamison Whiskey. While we are waiting another group of about six guys walks up to get a table but the hostess turn this group away saying they have no tables available.

Finally after about 30 minutes we are told our table is ready. As we walk to the back past the kitchen I notice four huge empty booths and I can see a fully staffed kitchen to the left. We walk to the main seating area where there are about 10 tables and there is also a outside courtyard area with about 10 more tables. Only 4 of these tables have people seated at them so almost empty.

Service was extremely slow. So was the time it took to get our meals. Food was decent but for the price I would go somewhere else.

We stopped after a long afternoon at big bend. The service was prompt and super friendly (Sara was our waitress) and our food delicious (we both had the steak and fries and shared the Caesar salad). The wine list was a bit odd but we found something that we enjoyed at a decent price point. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a nicer meal on the area.

Had reservations - that part they got right! First waiters didn t know who had our table. Then they were out of several items on the menu- Menu says one thing and they serve another- big difference between wild caught and tasteless injected salmon and black beans versus pinto! Then we would were told we would be served bread- server didn t bring it- had to ask several times for water refills- disappointed ! Everyone was nice and building was pretty, but food and service was not par for the high price!

Bar was busy but the dining room had 1 table and we were told it would be 20 minutes. 40 minutes later we were seated, could have easily sat us and told us they were busy, understaffed of whatever but we waited in a dark hallway for a table in an empty restaurant. Third below mediocre visit to this local.

I don't throw five stars around very easily four is usually as high as go... the outside dining area is the bomb. The food is definitely had a Class A level with a lot of creativity in the service has been fantastic from the time we walked in, if I make it back to Alpine I will definitely make it back here.

6 of us ate dinner on 3/13/19 and it was a major disappointment. I could write a long review about the numerous shortcomings of this place but in a nutshell the food was overpriced and the service atrocious.
Hard to see how they stay in business. I guess the bar is their money maker because the restaurant is really bad.

We had a party of seven for a Saturday night dinner. The service was great and the food was delicious. This may be the best cuisine in Alpine.

Great brunch. Had the quail and waffles, which was amazing, and the pork belly hash which was also very good. Beautiful court yard.
