One of the rites of summer in NYC - outdoor concerts at Summerstage! Wide range of acts catering to the diversity of NYC. Bigger names will have crazy lines - hours and hours. Bring a blanket and snacks to spread out - just no glass bottles or alcohol. They sell beer and wine out of trucks inside the venue. Bathrooms are porta-potties. Nonetheless, beautiful place to be outside listening to music!

This was such a great experience! The concert was fun, well organized and the space was perfect for a summer concert. I definitely recommend coming here to see a performance. It was so much better than I thought it would be!

I've been to concerts at Summerstage twice and both experiences were fairly positive. The atmosphere and crowd largely depends on the band that's playing. For instance, there was a giant mosh pit for Arctic Monkeys and people leisurely hanging out for Flight of the Conchords.

People tend to block off areas in the main pit with picnic blankets, however they're instructed to pack things up right before the show starts (of course, not everyone does). There's plenty of food and beverage options too! Remember, you're allowed to bring a sealed bottle of water with you!

Prepare to stand and be cozy with fellow concert go-ers.. This was my first and probably last Summerstage and I take the blame for not doing sufficient research but this was CRAMPED! Bodies on top of bodies in 95 degree heat for a ticketed event. Staff was fine and communication tight but this is not the place to head if you like a little bit of space on a summer night...

My wife and I went here to see PJ Harvey perform and it was a disaster from the start. The lines and the amount of time it took to get into the place... The lack of quality beverages... The rude staff and Personnel... The horrific views with people who stand up and not take into account anyone else's view... This place absolutely sucked and I have been to many venues in New York City. Never again. The bathroom situation isn't much better but it might be the best thing about it. Whoever is in charge of this place needs to get a grip and start to realize that the customer needs to be treated well!

Half of the concert field is now blocked off for emergency fire lanes, so they say. So you are stuck staying way off to the left or right unless you somehow are the privileged to get into the reserved bleachers. 8 portos for about 1000 people.

The venue is ok. Maybe because I was expecting great. It's pretty small. Standing room is flat, unlike Prospect Park bandshell's slant, so it can be pretty hard to see. The bleachers fill up quickly. If possible I'd try to get there early to snag a seat.

Food and drink is amazing, not good for a venue, just plain good. It's like a greatest hits of Smorgasbord and they have the best chicken sandwich. When I got sick of being crammed in like sardines I sat just outside the entrance and enjoyed a meal. Honestly, probably had a better time out there. Worth seeing once I guess but probably would just picnic outside next time.

Great outdoor venue with a personal feel to it. Bring a blanket if you'd like to sit in the back part of the main space. Bleachers as well but not sure how to access those. I do think they could do well to add a couple spekears for the back and possibly a projector and screen next to the stage to see better? But also so as not to distract.

Glad they do free shows, but the ones that cost money are too expensive for the uncomfortable venue. I've seen 3 shows here this summer. TicketMaster fees make this general admission venue not with it. You have to come 8 hours early to get a spot where you can actually see the super low stage and then stand for hours. I used to love it, laying out and watching a show in the grass, at a lower price, but now it gets way too packed. This year I never stayed for the full show, it became too stressful.

I love seeing concerts in this venue Central Park is the greatest Park in an urban context on the planet Earth. What could be better than to be outside and beautiful weather seeing someone perform and even when it rains and I've been here it was wonderful! Whether you like World music from the Ivory Coast and Senegal or you like southern rock and the remaining members of the Grateful Dead this is a memory of a lifetime every time you come. Highly recommended!

After the Steuben parade we were right on this stage after the Oktoberfest. Everything good, the location could be anywhere. Therefore, this is neither NY and / or Central Park typical ... Who the respective event is interested in there, the location itself is not worth seeing ...

Cool setting, but sound system is very quiet. It was strange being able to have conversation at a normal speaking level during a rock concert, but I appreciated that my ears weren't ringing afterwards.

The best free concert I ever went to hands down. You should arrive an hour or two earlier to be in front of the stage. You can bring food and snacks, no alcohol, and they check in your chair like a coat check if you have one. It wasn't too overcrowded which I was surprised. Nice staff, nice concert, but they need to organize their system as far as the line is concerned. Will do next year!

Great place to come enjoy free music in NYCs world famous massive Central Park. I'd list the amazing acts but you may as well just google it for your self because there are too many to list. The security is amazing and the food is supreme.

Wow!!! From Public Enemy to Hillary Clinton, Elvis Costello to Chvrches--our kids are growing up riding the bikes up from Downtown, from East Side, from Peter Cooper, StuyTown and Noho! What an amazing destination SummerStage has been for our family throughout our (so far 22 year) stay and the (so far 8 and 12 years) lives of our kids! So much awesome, worthwhile and precious stuff goes on up there on that stage!!! Keep it up NYC!!!

I've now gone to Summerstage concerts for four years in a row and if I could read it with higher than five stars I would. always a great lineup the artist seem to enjoy it and that makes it even more fun of a show. If you arrive early enough and you make your way to the front you can get yourself awesome placement close to the main stage. There's always concessions and it has great acoustics. Be warned you are standing the whole show but if you prepare for it it's absolutely worth it and it's always affordable.
