Love Castle! It's a little like going back in time...
Love Castle! It's a little like going back in time 20 or 30 years with the old school lifts but that means the hill doesn't get skied out as quickly. Haven't had a bad day there yet!

Wonderful resort for the whole family. Offers a variety of extreme and easy trails to ski or mountain bike depending on the season. Quite pricey though
We are having such a great time at T-Bar Pub & Grub! The beer is cold, the nachos are yummy and their service is excellent. Super smiles from Hazel and Cassidy! Thanks ladies. You ROCK!
Fun hill to snowboard. Geared more towards blues and blacks. Few greens for beginners.
Alberta s best kept secret. Awesome staff, great snow and fantastic pizza!
I love Castle, seems to be getting busier but lines still aren't too crazy & once you're on the top still plenty of room on the runs.
I skied here 25 years ago when it was called Westcastle!! I skied here on January 1st, 2020!! It was an epic day!! All kinds of terrain for all levels of skiing ability. The staff was all unbelievably friendly & the service & food at the T - Bar Pub was spectacular!! I will be going there again!!
We missed a powder day but I can't help but feel it would be unreal if it had some fresh snow. The hill was a little icy half way down. The bowls still had lots of decent snow. We discovered that the better snow was on the far left chair lift (can't remember it's name) on the lower half of the hill. Lifts were little slow compared to other resorts we've been to but we didn't mind because the views were unreal and there were no line ups. Parking lot is super close to the lodge (it was a little icy). The Red Bandit made the trip all the better!! Haha I look forward to going back on a powder day.
Love this place. Lift tickets should be cheaper though. $85 IS too much for Old slow chair lifts.
I went to Castle mountain last week and was actually quite impressed by the conditions and terrain itself. If you're looking for a inexpensive mountain getaway, i would personally recommend castle. But keep in mind castle isn't corporate owned like every other mountain so many amenities arent as up to par as other resorts.
Amazing hidden gem. Not what I would call novice or kid friendly, but a wicked winter get away
A small-scale ski resort south of Alberta scale.
It's an old facility.
The distance between the parking lot and the slope is close.
There are six lifts, only about five.
Since it snows a lot, powder riding is possible.
There are not many people, so it is possible to ski leisurely.
The lift is very slow.
It feels like a ski resort for local residents.
The level of slope is mostly superior. The slope is enormous.
But it's a really fun place.
It takes about two and a half hours, but it's worth it.

Best verticle lines around. Who would guess it from the lifts?!? And the pizza in the T-bar is fantastic.
We enjoyed snowboarding at the hill. Our stay at the hostel was very good. In spite of one stove and sink for the entire hostel (and a strange lack of cutlery and bowls) it is very pleasant.
Tons of snow, smaller more laid back feel. Great midweek deals at the lodge, great little pub on the mountain, woodfired sauna is epic, beautiful scenery. I would recommend to anyone as long as there is snow you'll have a great riding experience.
Castle is a budget friendly ski resort compared to the others in the rockies. They don't have any high speed lifts, which helps to keep lift tickets cheaper but isn't particularly beginner friendly. Then again, most of the mountain itself isn't beginner friendly. This place is fantastic for advanced skiers because nearly all of the runs on the main area are blues or diamonds. The chutes on the back side are tons of fun, if they're open.
Tons of powder, snow was amazing. Chutes were unbelievable
Try to get out on a good snow day and the skiing will be great on the entire mountain. If it hasn't snowed in a while stick to the lower chairs, and get into the glades.
A truly remarkable ski hill. Huckleberry chair for the beginner / intermediate , Tamarack chair for advanced expert. Steep and deep powder in glades, bowls and trees. 2017/2018 has been an amazing season here.
Excellent resort, great staff great food, and excellent mountain:-D highly recommend
Out of the way and older vibes at this hill, but lots of fun terrain and you don't get the same high traffic as other resorts. When this mountain gets good snow it is great, but it can also be really windy at the top depending on the weather. T-Bar has good for options for lunch.
Snow was great this past weekend. Good coverage with not many icy spots. Line ups almost non-existent on blue chair and huckleberry chair. Fun times for the family!
Beautiful resort, fresh mountain air, all around wonderful stay
43cm of fresh pow . Wow . The only negative is they need a hand dryer in the washrooms so you can thaw out your goggles
Challenging ski runs and always helpful cheerful staff.
Just a great down home ski hill. Nothing flashy just good, nice people here who like to ski. Super friendly staff and enough amenities to keep you fed and warm but not to take the focus away from the skiing. Snow is usually pretty good! And it s a easy drive from Calgary.
My favourite place to go skiing in Alberta. But the temperature on the inside of the lodge is low.
Castle mountain is great. It's small and simple and focused on what matters. There's a good variety of terrain from family to expert. I've never seen it too busy. They aren't interested in selling you premium accommodation or the latest gear, they are interested in making sure you have a great day. The staff are excellent. Very friendly and engaged and passionate about the resort. The cantina has reasonable food at the standard slopeside price, not cheap, not crazy. There is a brown bag lunch area also. Now the bad: The lifts are slow, standard doubles and triples, this is fine because it's not busy. The weather in the area is tricky. Days at Castle are either amazing or mediocre. They can have tons of snow and sunny breaks on the best days, or ice and flat light on the worst. Also there's the wind. It can be really bad in the area, so check conditions before you go and bring your balaclava. It's about 3 hours from Calgary with a quick stop for fuel, supplies and breakfast. If they got snow recently, this is where I go.
Great terrain, lifts are old and outdated but to be expected with castle. Friendly staff and and overall great ski environment
Great snow ! AwesOme cabins , fun pub, good food , amazing snowboarding.
Castle mountain is great. It has a full maps on trails showing all its paths marked by colour showing its level of difficulty. It has plenty of snow to go on through the seasons since if ever short they produce their own. On Huckleberry lift they create areas of jumps and rails. Its my favorite hill of Alberta. It also has a dine in lounge with internet access and a sit in bar.
One of the best ski resorts in Canada. None of the flash of the bigger spots ,which is what makes it great ,it's all about the skiing here!!
Powder can be awesome here. It's light and airy. Really a hidden gem when they have snow.
Lots of runs, tons of options for different skier levels. Usually can find some good snow!
What a day. It poured rain all day. Wore garbage bags supplied by the resort to stay dry. And the main chairlift was closed due to wind. And yet, from the moment we drove up the goofy parking attendants set the tone for a good day. Staff in the rental shop are helpful and friendly. The scenery is beautiful. My kids enjoyed themselves despite the weather. They d love to come back sometime...in better weather.
Alberta's best hidden gem. The lifts are slow though, so you probably shouldn't go.
Great snow, lots of very interesting terrain and no lift line ups. What else do you need!
More character than commercial. Runs here are quality over quantity. Slow chairs help you enjoy the steep and deep runs. Snow can always be found out at Castle. Quick heads up that the top chair , Tamarack, closes for wind when it is above 60km/h which isn't unusual for this hill
This is a fun ski area. Area gets lotsa snow & the skiing options are nicely varied to suit anybody from newbie kids to pros. Took my 11 year old for his first "off-groomed" experience. Castle has lots of that stuff .... So much fun. The downsides? The geographical location ... southern Alberta gets insanely windy. We felt 150 kmph wind! Yes, you read that right!
Awesome terrain. One of my favorite places to ski in the Rockies. A diamond in the rough.
A hidden gem in the Canadian Rockies. Runs for every skill level. Staff are friendly but the food is rather high priced. Bring your lunch as there are lots of places to sit and relax.
We came out to catski, but want to come back and experience the place for everything else it has! Lodge is clean and taken care of. We had a fun day out catskiing.
Best value for your ski trip dollar you'll find anywhere. Accommodation and lift pass rates very approachable and the variety of terrain and natural snow coverage is second to none. Add the welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere and you've got the trip of a lifetime.
Great hill to come play on. The staff and visitors all seem to be happy and friendly. The kids loved the snowboard school. They learned and hit the chairlift in the first hour.
Great prices on lift passes and rentals also.
Castle is a local classic with a local feel. Skip the corporate feel that other large mountain resorts have and come here for small lift lines, friendly service, more untracked slopes, and a general down-to-earth vibe.
Also come in the summer for the berries!
My New #1
What an incredible mountain this is! Great ski resort with amazing runs and lots of em.. I'll be back!
I have a seasons pass and so far most things are great! The ski hill isn't terribly large and is mostly for experienced skiiers or snowboarders. Most of the staff are super chill, some are rude if you don't have the coolest most expensive and latest equipment. All times I've gone I've had a negative experience with rude staff (that being said majority of staff are very kind). Overall pretty average hill, average experience.
Awesome terrain as long as you can survive the wind.
Laid back and super friendly. A great escape that's only a short drive from home. Rough around the edges keeps the place real.
I love this ski resort. But today was spent hiking to Haig Lake. Well maintained trails. Breathtaking view of Mount Haig. Plan to do the Paradise Lake hike tomorrow.
Amazing ride up to the top of Haig with the Powder Stagecoach crew.
Great skiing - amazing terrain with amazing snow. Tons of options of areas to ski. A great mix of beginner to expert terrains. The chutes are amazing for advanced skiers. Cool little pub, and good accommodation options make this my favorite Hill in the Canadian Rockies. If you are super lucky, you can even get a hug in the lift line.
I had the opportunity to go Cat Skiing with Powder Stagecoach last week. It was truly one of the best days of my life. The guides were amazing and the skiing was out of this world.
I will definitely be back.
I've been snowboarding here 9 years it is so good the pubs food is really good same with the lodges food and the staff are amazing I prefer the old staff from last year the prices are good
Great skiing. Subpar accommodation, food, and lodge
Some of the best terrain the rockies have with a team a staff that make it feel like home.
Awesome quiet resort. Quality laps rather than quantity but some great terrain. Little thin on the snow coverage when we were there but still a great day!
Excellent place to stay. My partner's family and I came up here this past weekend to go huckleberry picking. It was a blast. Would love to come back again next year.
Bring a bag lunch. The veggie burger in the Day lodge was mush, flavourless, topped with wilted, soggy, tomato, onion & pickle. Really gross. The skiing is amazing, but bring your own food.
Small, somewhat slow, but steep and deep...just how we like it
If you like steep runs, while also having something for everyone else who likes to take their time, this hill is fun, and would recommend it. Double blacks were challenging but doable, parking is close to the entrance, and enough runs to enjoy an entire day there with varying terrain.
