Casa Madero operates the oldest vineyards and wineries in the Americas.
The tradition began in the year 1574 when Spanish priests and conquistadors left Zacatecas to what is now Coahuila in search of gold, in the middle of the desert they found no gold, but a true oasis with springs of water and a great profusion of wild vines . This privileged valley is today known as the Parras Valley.
This discovery motivated them to establish the Mission of Santa Maria de las Parras and with the grapes of these native vineyards they produced the first American wine there.
The quality of its soils, the high elevation - 1,505 meters above sea level - generates a cool climate, conducive to the cultivation of the vine, made the Valley of Parras produced since its founding wines of unbeatable quality. Over the years, the fame of the quality of the wines of Valle de Parras reached Spain, which alarmed the King who fearing the competition of the American Colonies, in 1699 issued a decree prohibiting the cultivation of the vine and the production of wines , with the sole exception of those vineyards and wineries that produce wines for the Church. This prohibition lasted until Mexico became independent from Spain in 1810. During this difficult period, San Lorenzo survived by producing wines for the curia.
The property passed through several owners including a French company that bought it during the time of Maximilian. In 1893 it was bought in Paris, France, by Don Evaristo Madero, father of the Madero family and grandfather of President Francisco I. Madero, who in 1910 established the foundations of modern Mexico.
In Europe, Don Evaristo, I also contract the services of the best technicians, vine growers from Spain and Italy and winemakers from France; he also acquired new varieties of grapes and brought modern winemaking equipment, wooden barrels and casks, Cognac distillation stills, bottling lines and other equipment for the vineyard and winery. With the best grape varieties, the modern equipment and the new staff that implanted the most modern technology of the time, the wine-growing of San Lorenzo grew and progressed to become an important producer of wine and brandy in Mexico.
The most magical vineyard. Love so much history and that colonial air. The vine halls are beautiful and the people very friendly and in love with the valley and the house. The tasting very well and very complete, with delicious and varied wines. Congratulations!
Where can I start??... perfect place to spend one full day with family or friends if you have time take the two tours and the tasting route. Awesome place you will take a lot of picture over there the prices are ok and the wines are cheaper that a super market. The wine is one of the best of Mexico.
THERE ARE NO ROUTES THROUGH THE CONTINGENCY !!! I have come many times and I love the tour and the tasting, the place is very beautiful. Super recommended (if not for this experience I would give them 5 stars) But today, August 22, 2020, we arrived with a family who came to visit to do the tour and nowhere did they report that due to the contingency they are not giving tours, only when they arrived at the entrance one of the workers informed us, even on the page official where they say that they are open to the public and no prior appointment is required, (I think) that right there they should put a notice, because we saw many annoying people waiting to enter the tour. They only allow one person per family to get out of their car to buy bottles from the store and you cannot even enter the store, they sell it to you from outside in line and they do not allow photos even at the entrance or at the kiosk. I fully understand that during this contingency things have changed and I applaud that the sanitary measures are carried out as they should in Casa Madero but it seems to me that it is a terrible management management that they fail to make this information known to the public taking into account that there are people who come from other states to meet them.
Your tour is very good although it could improve. They explain the whole process of vinification and the history of the Treasury. If you want to make a tasting is separately, they should have a package that includes the tasting and the visit to the winery. In his page it is not very clear if there are visits to the vineyard which if available on horseback or in calandria, but only asking you complete and have a separate cost. On the other hand, there is a very unfriendly warning that if you cut grapes from the vineyard you will be consigned to the authorities, I know that there are people who are abusive and without manners and their reasons will have had to place it, but wow, a little more touch does not hurt, Not everyone who visits a vineyard brings bad intentions.
It is a place that if you visit Parras you should not miss, a guided tour is ideal to know the process of the Grape until it becomes a delicious Red or White Wine and are accessible prices of $ 70 adults and children under 12 years do not pay
Must visit, the oldest winery in America, in the general tour you go through the winery, the wine making process, it is very organized, it has several offers of attractions such as tastings, tours through the vineyards, highly recommended, it is really worth it know them.
A wonderful place to visit in vines, despite being a winter season I loved it because it still looks green, the tour is very much enjoyed by the guides and what better way to buy wine here.
Good place to meet. Historical. Their lousy food. They don't serve sauces or omelets, nothing. The dry rib eye lacks flavor. Bring your tortillas and sauces. Or better not give food service
We arrived at the last tour in the afternoon, we swallowed all the explanation with the desire to taste the wine and zas that closed us with the doors in the noses that had already closed, as they did not warn us at the beginning of charging us ... Anyway that's why they have !!! A scam is not worth it !!!
I have had the pleasure of being here on more than one occasion, it is always a pleasant way to spend the day apart from being able to fill the cellar with good wines Recommended to arrive early to be able to enjoy the different activities that can be carried out here
Excellent, we went to the afternoon, the exquisite food the wine not to mention, the tour the presentation of the grape harvest ... we had a wonderful afternoon.
Everything is already said in the rest of the publications, I will only leave photos and comment that I saw what looked like a ghost of a man in one of the windows before entering the first area of the barrels of the route.
VERY BAD ORGANIZATION. It is not clear where the ticket offices are for tours or tasting and you end up making rows several times due to bad indication. There is also nothing to entertain people while we wait for the tour time. The guy who charges the wines is only when it is a bridge and it is obvious that there will be an important influx of people. I had high expectations of this visit and left desperate for the very bad organization and the ugly tent that serves as a ticket office when the property is beautiful. Much to develop ...
The place is beautiful, peaceful and pleasant. The food is delicious and the service is excellent, in addition, the prices are very accessible and they have a variety of dishes.
The place is very careful. Good explanation, maybe tasting. Too bad that only on weekends, they do the vineyard tours. It is a tour for tourists and they do not consider those who can during the week. We went from Quintana Roo and maybe we won't come back !!
Funny the idea of the visit, the guide made you want very much but lacks support elements to tell the story better, the guide is really a worker from there, he is not a tour guide and still an excellent job. In general they need to design more the experience is very improvised. Tip Do not do the wine tasting in a scam, this face is not well organized and they do not know about wines that are there.
Very far away, they charge very expensive to just see some old barrels do not really show the process of making wine, long lines to buy the entrance ticket and after they wait longer to enter and since you enter there is nothing interesting to see , in general do not go there.
It is located to the south of the state of Coahuila, in the northeast of Mexico. It is an area composed of abundant water tables and a height of 1520 meters above sea level. The winters are cold and well defined and More
The route costs 50 pesos! Very interesting the history of the vineyard and process of the different wines! It lasts about an hour. At the end you have the option to try a wine tasting.
The recommendation is to arrive early to visit the vineyards in calandria, have a tour of the wineries while giving an overview of how to make the wines, end up enjoying a glass of good wine under the longevos nogales
Casa madero is an incredible place to meet and give the tour in the company, with wine tasting, shop with sale of wines and with incredible gardens to photograph, apart it has gardens for special events, you cannot miss Casa madero every that you visit Parras.
Zero stars treat us like plagued the bathrooms are locked and portable toilets until 10:30 were ready, so they tell us that we must enter before 10 are not worth mother
The vineyard is spectacular! very pretty!. I have to emphasize that the valuation is of the vineyard and the quality of the wine because the guide who attended us does not honor the house, easily contrasted fake data searching on Google (besides I know them) as the world wine qualification positions . Wrong history of vines easily proven. Macho treatment leaving women in a bad place by comparing them intolerable. It tells the history of Mexico and Spain with incorrect data, speaks of the geography of Spain without knowing it as for example ... of a valley in the middle of the Pyrenees where they make a bad wine? No excuse me, not like that. The right tourist visit. The tasting of correct red and white wines.
The attention is terrible, the guards are very slobbering and are not interested in tourism. Too bad that one goes so far and is given this terrible attention. I do not recommend it. The demonstrator just as rude.
Father is the route for me that I went from entry to exit it was normal to me the only thing is that he does not give tasting it makes it like a common and current route would have preferred to pay 100 pesos with tasting that the 50 without tasting outside of that is very Nice the place and it has beautiful views
