I ve never seen such a collection of beautiful and rare guitars. And the friendly and helpful staff made it a nice museum visit.
One guy even took the time to look up a 1963 Ryder guitar I have, to give me more details about it.
And I was just buying a few guitar picks.

Carter is a guitar institution for Nashville. It's absolutely filled to capacity with beautiful, rare, and well-maintained vintage instruments and amps. People come from all over the world to shop this store, and you can fully understand why when you begin browsing the place. If only I had the money to actually shop at Carter!

Without doubt one of top guitar shops in the country. Eclectic selection without the snooty attitude. I come in at least once a month to get strings picks, setups, repairs, or other gear just to insure I do my part to help keep them around.

There are so many guitars here
It's like being a little kid in a candy store. It's exhilarating! There were so many brands I did not recognize, and there are so many unique designs. One of the coolest things is the guitars that were played by famous people. Of course it'll be a while before I could pay 40K for a guitar, but they sure were pretty!

GO HERE! SO worth the trip from Michigan.

LOVE the staff. Not one dud in the bunch

Will be going back as soon as I can!

Great experience at Carter's Vintage this weekend - Esteban was incredibly helpful and courteous and helped me finish my transaction quickly and painlessly. I mistakenly left my ID on the counter during the purchase, and an employee named Mikaila (SP??) called me later that day and let me know that I could retrieve it and gave me the owners phone number to coordinate. Terrific customer service. Everything worked out and I am looking forward to receiving my guitar later this week. Thanks a bunch-
PS, the store is stocked with a wonderful selection of near New and vintage, and is a must visit for string players.

Took a nice flatriron mandolin here to get set up and paid close to 200 bucks for the work. When I got my mandolin back 1 month later it played the same. The action was to low and the mandolin would buzz if you played it past the 5th fret. Ill never give them my business again after that. VERRY DISSAPOINTED!!!!! Beware and take you stuff to cornner street music they have always done me right.

This store is dangerous! It doesn't get any better than Carter Vintage. Amazing selection of guitars and basses and the staff are all excellent!!! I happily forked over a nice chunk of change for my 2 Les Paul's. Worth every penny!

Chose to visit Carter's on a busy Saturday afternoon. despite the number of customers mauling about looking at the amazing selection of guitars, there were plenty of helpful folks there ready to answer your questions and to help you. I was able to sell an instrument and actually got a chance to meet one of the owners. Very family friendly, very friendly overall, with a great group of support staff. The prices are right on par with what I would expect to actually pay for most of these instruments, as opposed to being highly inflated because this is Nashville. You owe it to yourself to come down and check them out.

Carter guitars is amazing. Been drooling over the inventory online for years and finally made a trip to Nashville and got to go for real. Selection here is mind blowing. I kept worrying the staff would come by and say something about our non stop playing of everything we could get our hands on but they were fine with it. This place is the best.

What a collection they have here. So much history in here, and every instrument you pick up could have so much history behind it. Every Gibson and Martin fan needs to come take a few hours to drool over some rare old guitars and gear. The sales staff here are super friendly, especially since I expressed I couldn't afford anything in the store they still insisted I play whatever I felt like. They made me feel at home, and I was grateful to play a few of these jewels. Thanks Carter's..I'll be back some day, and I bet I'll buy something!

This is the SICKEST place ever!!!! First time in Nashville and was doing the tourist thing when I passed by on the way home and decided to stop. Almost wished I hadn't, as my green was kinda low and obviously couldn't afford anything but it was great seeing all the guitars I sometimes only see in magazines.

Got some bucks burning a hole in your pocket? They have the vintage guitar you've been coveting since high school. And probably more than one. But these are more likely vintage than used. Plus, go on a weekday and they will set you up with the proper vintage amp in a separate room. And play just about anything in the shop. You know you need it.

I've never been to a place better than Carter when looking for quality used gear. The selection is top notch, the staff are friendly but don't hover, and you never know who you're going to see there! (Joe B. came in once while I was there) I feel highly fortunate to live here and to be able to visit Carter on the regular. It truly is a world class store for guitar lovers. If you're visiting Nashville and even remotely interested in music or guitars, don't miss it.

This place was terrible. I made a special trip here to check this place out. When I entered I probably looked at guitars for a good 45 mins before being greeted. I walked in looking for a 70s or 80s Gibson, and saw a few I liked but left because of the treatment I received. Trying something out was a nightmare. It took forever to get any help... a few times the staff looked straight at me and still didn't speak! Once it was clear I wasn't going anywhere, someone finally greeted me, but the damage was done, and after hearing the staff lament having to move amps around for customers, it was REALLY done. Nothing like asking for a Marshall to try out a 3,000 dollar guitar and being told they didn't have one (I saw Marshalls) the entire experience was garbage. It wouldn't have angered me so bad if this was not a once yearly type thing for me. I like to take my bonus and shop for a nice guitar...but man, I never expect to walk in a place with money to burn and be treated like that. Don't let any slogans fool you when it comes to this type of place... vintage shops are by and large places that tailor to the rich and specifically, the rich hobbyist. This shop has the added "appeal" of being located in Nashville, but in reality that means you can add famous musicians to its "elite" clientele. The impression I got was an exclusive niche shop that does NOT want your money unless you fit the bill (semi famous or wealthy) Stay away. Stay far away.

Great place to just look at hundreds of used many vintage guitars, bass, steel guitars, ukes and associated gear. Prices are generally fair considering the good condition and/or rarity of some of these instruments. Casual atmosphere with many customers showing their talents while testing out the gear. Enjoyable to shop or just visit.

Super cool environment with plenty on display. Not just guitars, of course, but may other instruments as well. With practice rooms, a nice environment, and clean facilities Carter Guitars is a guitar lovers dream!

Incredible store. An amazing selection of used and vintage instruments, all setup and well maintained. I was thrilled to find three 1930s Martin acoustics in their stock. They have guitars valued from 100 - 50,000+ dollars. Along with a slew of really nice mandolins, basses, double basses and banjos.

Spectacular inventory and customer service! Treated my 13 yr old like a king and answered all of our questions and were super patient with us/him. Keith made us feel like we were the most important customers in the store. We're retuning soon to do more shopping...its only 4 hrs away lol
They could get away with being pretentious considering their quality vintage inventory, but everyone, esp Keith, made it feel like a hometown business. Awesome place if you want a killer vintage guitar, amp , etc!! 5 stars all the way!

Edit: went back today (7/24/18) to trade a 2017 Gibson SG HP for and older, more vintage one my son fell in love with. Bo/Bow/Boe/Beau/Beaux/Bough was awesome! Understated but cool. Got a decent trade in value ( no $ departed from my pocket!) and allowed me to haggle some. Several employees recognized us from 1 visit from a week ago! Cool atmosphere and we'll definitely travel the 4 hrs for our next acquisition...if I can keep the kid under control! Got free stickers from cool chick at checkout, too...js

Wow!

Wow!
I was blown away by the guitars in there. Visiting from Las Vegas I had a wild hare to buy a guitar IN Nashville, bot lo, my budget didn't match these incredible vintage guitars.
Still a great experience that I shared with friends at home, and maybe someday the budget will be there.
Hands down the greatest assortment of vintage Fenders I've seen in my life.

Wow!
