I'm here at the hospital with my daughter who had a surgery that was serious and she got a roommate that is VERY high maintenance and can't sleep at all! There were other rooms with beds available but she was put in here. I hope they don't ask me how this experience was because I'll let them have it.

There is a seemingly unknown and unrecognized, even somewhat hidden medical profession that is quite essential but never acknowledged or given the accolades they rightfully deserve. Both Anesthesiologist (Doctors)) and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are the essential workers that I reference. They are essential whether in a pandemic or just surgical care.
I have had several surgeries at Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign, Illinois, in the last few years. These essential dedicated men & women are behind the scene, yet their talent is necessary for surgery, pain control and limited respiratory care. I am most grateful for them. I do not know all of their names yet they did introduce themselves to me...and I am seriously grateful for the painless , sleep they provided during my procedures.
I must add the injections for pain control (epidurals)
which were completed by Shabeera Rauther, MD
Thank you
Evangeline Clark, C.R.N.A.

Update: they just texted me to check me test results, that said my brain cancer might be growing back...On a Saturday night. I can t even call to talk to anyone til Monday. That is beyond messed up and might be a sign of the times. Call your reps, they don t treat us like human beings anymore. Where is the compassion?

I have had one great experience here surrounded by just heaps and heaps of awful. I have been going through treatment for cancer and seizures for 3 years so I know this hospital pretty well. I have gotten 3 messed up bills. One claiming I owed them more money than I have, I recieved it on a Friday and I had to sit on it til Monday. I called and asked if it was possible to double check the bills or not send them out on Fridays because stress is awful for people and they are in the business of healthcare. They said no. No solutions. Mistakes are keep being made and they won t do anything about it because a computer is in charge. Really lame and not compassionate answer. I really tried to come up with a solution with them and they were clearly just listening to appease me.
My Neuro told me I was getting an EEG to test my base line brain waves and when I went in, it was in a BEDROOM alone with a strange man. And I was later told they were trying to induce a seizure actually.
I go unconscious when I have seizures. They didn t tell me I would be headed into a bedroom alone with a strange man who would try and provoke a seizure? They didn t think that was necessary information?
I get the sense they feel they can just do whatever because we have no other options and it s true. But that s the wrong way to be and I am just horrified.
Ask questions, bring a friend, record every conversation. Stay safe.
Also, stomach problems for 20 years. They did not help. They do not recognize leaky gut. They want to just prescribe prescribe prescribe, but not write a recommendation for medical cannabis. Which has saved my life. I live and thrive with brain injury, connective tissue disorder, GI issues, PTSD, cancer and seizures because of my cannabis. And they made me feel so awful about even asking about it a few years back. I hope their attitude changes because I had to spend a lot out of pocket and drive hours out of town to get a doctor to sign off and I had Brain Cancer. Talk about a lack of compassion.

Oh, and one time I went to the ER with a friend and the whole ER waiting room was really aware and kept letting the staff know, that there was a man bleeding in the waiting room. They had bagged up the injury, but the bag was filling with blood. He seemed very sleepy. We were there for 15 minutes and the staff had been told 2 times before the man, who was nodding off, began to have a seizure. He had a bag full of blood wrapped around his ankle. Why was he not being tended to? When he started to seize they went in to action. But, not until then?

Doctors and hospitals have liability insurance. They make boatloads of money practicing incompetence. Where is there insentive to help us?

switched my primary care doctor without saying anything and assumed i wouldnt notice. the appiontment maker just lied to me and refused to set up a follow up appointment by phone, while i was on the phone with her. kept telling me to do it through email instead. absolute dis-respect. thats like a cashier telling you to get your groceries off the conveyor belt and use the self check out because they dont want to deal with you. i called again and somebody else said they could easily do the appointment by phone, but it turned 5pm that very second, and the department im calling is now closed. now i have to try again tomorrow. screw you cathy (working 4/18/2019 at approx. 4:30pm)! i hope you get sick too you poor excuse for a jerk secretary. more useless than lemmings that already jumped. also... why do they ask so many questions about my last appointment, that i dont remember, when they clearly have it ...ON A SCREEN IN FRONT OF THEM! most of the doctors and nurses are solid. good at their jobs, fairly kind. but good luck getting in, because the office is absolute trash.

North Tower 7th floor has the best nurses and Tech's. I spent 5 days there a couple weeks ago and all the staff were kind and caring. I never waited more than 30 minutes for assistance after hitting my call light. Also when I was able to eat on 4th day and 5th day,the dining staff were very prompt and accommodating.

I have had a lot of great experiences at Carle. Especially with my doctor and staff at Family Med. Not to mention the amazing cardiovascular staff.
One negative experience I have had is, I went to the ER with severe chest pain on a Saturday night. Went through all the tests and scans as needed. I waited 7 hours after the tests until daylight the next day, to have the ER doctor come in(first time seeing a doc since arrival, and not to mention right before shift change) and say all looks good, go home and take Tylenol for the pain. I was still having extreme chest pain when I was released.
Three days later, after the constant chest pain had become unbearable, I returned to the ER once again. This time had a caring doctor who actually seemed concerned with my issue and started testing me for heart issues again. On this visit I was also looked at by a cardiologist. It was discovered that I was, and have been suffering from a heart attack due to a 100% blockage in one of my smaller vessels. I had surgery to put a stint in and admitted for 3 days of observation.
To break it down, the first ER doctor sent me home while having a heart attack, while rushing to get me out acting as if he was too busy to take a closer look at me.
