I had a CT scan scheduled and drank a Barium prep for it. When I arrived for the scan, they were running behind, but I waited patiently. Before the scan the rad tech asked if I took my Prednisone prep. I hadn't because I wasn't told about it. Apparently because I sneezed once during a scan two years ago, they thought I should take Pred before CT scans. They said they put a note in their computer system that someone should call in a prescription and let me know but no one read the note. They refused to do the scan. Since I had already drank the Barium (which is not good), I wanted to proceed with the scan and asked the rad tech if I could get an IV dose of Pred. She said no, they only do that on an emergency basis.

I never write reviews, this is actually the first one but I strongly feel that other's should know what was experienced today. I am astonished at the lack of compassion and care my family member received today in the Emergency Room. They did not take her seriously, dismissed her symptoms completely and did not supply the relief and care she so desperately needed. She was still in need of assistance and crying in pain when she was discharged. They actually were going over the discharged papers and rushing her out the door while she was crying from the pain (no not an exaggeration). I was on the phone with her the entire time and heard the conversation, she's crying asking for help, and they just kept reading the papers - literally reading the papers without any acknowledgement. I can't believe what I heard over that phone. I called the nurses station immediately and they said she should come back. I asked why she was dismissed in the first place when she told them point blank she was still in need of obvious care. She does not want to return to the place that didn't help her in the first place and is still double over in crippling pain. I am writing the AMA, calling the hospital complaint hotline as well as my insurance company to let them know they would have been double charged by this recommendation due to the hospital's negligence. What I find most interesting is when we had health alliance insurance which is owned by the hospital, we received great care. When we changed insurance providers we received the worst care. Maybe a coincidence but interesting observation. I honestly think this place needs to be investigated. Something is not right. I have never seen this negligence in any medical practice until today. Please do not go to this hospital, you will not receive the help you need. Please go to a hospital that will care for you and address your immediate needs. That is why you are in the ER in the first place.
Carle hospital is a very nice clean hospital however I am very disappointed with all the staff including the dr.s and nurses. My current 4 year old child has so many GI problems. She is currently fed 100% by g tube. Three years ago I asked the pediatrician to refer me to a GI dr. Because of my daughter's eating, and vomiting problem but the pediatrician refused to do that. I kept taking my baby to her office but all she said was your baby is fine and healthy even though my daughter was 0% weight on scale. I had to ask another pediatrician for a referral. And we finally saw a GI specialist. Dr. Wang the gi specialist was our savior. 3 years later till this day my daughter is fed through g tube because she has, severe food allergies, oral aversion, slow digestion, chronic vomiting and reflux, pancreas deficiency. I could have lost my baby if we had not given her gtube when she was a year old. But that is not all! The nurses and staff were always the rudest. At the time of my daughter's surgery at Carle hospital June 2015, the nurse in charge almost hit my baby because my LO was scared, in pain, hungry, tired and she was crying alot.the nurse had a hard time injecting the IV in my baby's arm. She poked her several times till my poor little girl started bleeding. When I saw so much blood in her hand and clothes I started crying. The nurse shouted at me "if you can't handle this step outside". I had to shut my mouth and stay quiet. I cried inside. And I still cry eveytime I remerber what that nurse did to my child. She kept pulling my daughter's arm and shouting "hold on". She kept pocking my baby with same niddle. Another terrible memory! I tried feeling my daughter solid food but we did not know of her sever food allergies. Because as the pediatrician always told us "your child is healthy" we never assumed she has food allergies. One day she broke to hives and very bad rash on her face, neck, and body. We rushed her to ER. They didn't do anything for her. They didn't even figure out that was due to food allergy. They sent us home with no medication, no further test or visits, nothing! I later found out the rash was because of egg allergies she has.
I am pissed. I am mad and disappointed for being treated this way. I give this hospital only one star only because of its clean environment.
I want to give this hospital a zero star, not even half a star. It is, like other people mentioned in these reviews, a complete joke. 500 bucks goes to the physician who came in for 5 minutes to tell me i need an MRI scan before we can do anything. Another 250 dollars for the physician's nurse to come in and tell me everything i already knew. Not helpful AT ALL. I don't even know how they determine the prices on these things. Unfortunately, i did not read the reviews before i went there (i know, a huge mistake). Before i knew what the charges were, and i should have asked, i scheduled an MRI. This cost 2500 dollars not including another 500 for the doctor that operated the MRI. Thankfully, I have insurance. However, never again will I devote my time to an institution before reading reviews. I know, I am also to blame for being so careless. But you see, i had the childish mindset that hospitals want to help you in whatever way possible. This hospital is completely the opposite. They quickly take care of you, charge you an OBSCENE amount of money, and then they move on the next patient to charge them some more money. Sure, they can help you, but at what cost? And im sure they won't tell you if you don't ask them.
I recently had cataract surgery with Dr R Wang. From my preop appointment all the way thru actual surgery everyone that anyone had contact with me were all very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. From PSR'S , CMA'S, and RN'S and surgical staff and of course Dr Wang I was very impressed with the customer service. I highly recommend Carle for Health Care. Thank you!
They got the hospital like a prison one person came for a support person. That person left and I tried to switch it out and couldn't one person the whole visit .
This is the worst hospital I ve been too. Good luck trying to visit your family member in the icu because they ll just keep telling you we re getting them ready we ll get you when they are! Not to mention the super rude staff that don t tell you anything about the patient in question. Oh and their public bathrooms have blood on the walls. How often do you people clean? You d think there would be more care put into their work when someone s life is on the line.
I recently had knee surgery, a meniscus repair with Dr Manahar. I went to the therapist 3 days and 7 days after the surgery.i have not had any pain whatsoever. The therapist canceled all other appointments because I was doing fantastic. 12 years ago I had the same thing on my other knee. It took about 12 days to go back to work still with pain. I am so impressed with Dr. Manahar in her in her bedside manner and of course her surgeon ability. Way to go Dr Manahar!!!!
This is probably the best hospital I ve ever been to. The staff is always so friendly and helpful and I ve been to several departments throughout this place. They communicate with their patients so well and answer all of your questions thoroughly. They don t make you feel like just another number, it actually feels like they are trying to help you for whatever you came in for. The wait time in the ER from start to finish is all really quick. I always feel taken care of whenever I leave here. Just make sure you go with insurance or a way to pay because it is really expensive but what hospital isn t?
Edit: This really only applies to day shift. Night shift is still nice and all but they re all interns/new so be prepared to get poked like a pincushion if you stay overnight.
I was at the hospital this morning in room 13 with my 1 year old grandson and he found a pill on the floor and just about put it in his mouth . I feel that housekeeping or someone needs to do a more thorogh job of checking the floor for foreign objects . If I wouukd not have been watching him this could have ended very badly .
The doctors are competent. Not above ordering questionable expensive tests. Their billing system is atrocious! You are given one account number for several different groups, Physicians, Hospital, etc. If you happen to send a bill to the wrong address, which is exactly what happened to me, don't expect be able to get it credited to the correct group. An error of one digit in a PO Box number resulted in my bill - $37.37 - being sent to collection. For the billing system alone, I would avoid doing business with this hospital if at all possible.
If I could give 0 stars, I would. The nurses were very rude and disrespectful. My son in law can't talk with my daughter without his grandmother's permission. Several issues with the nurses not getting a male when he'd asked for one. Most of them go by the BOOK instead of evaluating each situation individually. Worst excuse for a hospital. One of the sitters even went out of her way to try and get a rise out of my daughter. Was very inappropriate with my son in law right in front of my daughter. They need to hire more male nurses for the Male patients asking for them. They don't do much for pain, had him suffering from his pain and waited clear up to the EXACT 4 hours, while he's in tears from his pain. Easily the WORST hospital in the area.
I drive from an hour south to come to see Dr. Dillard (which she is great). But both times I had to visit I waited over an hour, when asking reception how much longer they just look at me like a deer in the headlight and don't have an answer! This last time I was given a yellow gift certificate for $5 that I was told I could use in the cafeteria or for parking, so I did not get cash for the parking garage, when I went to use it they said they needed the white copy not the yellow, I was already mad that I drove over an hour to wait an hour to be in the office for 3 minutes and be told it wasn't necessary that I kept that apt (post op). (Again this is nothing against Dr. Dillard, she is great) This about her receptionist making it seem like I had no choice but that I had to come and keep the apt. If I had known it was optional depending on how I felt I wouldn't have taken off from work to know everything was ok.
Very disappointed. Perhaps if I hadn't been a neuroscience PhD student I wouldn't have known better. I came in from a bicycle accident with a head injury. While they were very quick to get the CT done and the nursing staff was very pleasant, the doctor only did an abbreviate check of cranial nerve integrity and did not offer any concussion consultation.
I was still dripping blood down my face when they sent me home. I had to go back in and ask for help while waiting for the cab and they simply pointed me to a box of tissues. That does not seem very professional or compassionate to me.
Sitting in CDU waiting on my father- in-law to get his stress test and all I can hear is this woman at the desk talking very loud that she didn't get a cookie.
I supposed to have appointment at 8:40 with Dr Khan today, and the nurse called me at 4 am in the morning just to cancel the appointment, was it the only time they can contact me? I received another cancellation call again around 8am. Is this how professional should do? I m really frustrated and thinking should I reschedule with them again. Thao
I am writing this review because I am extremely impressed by a doctor.
This review is based on a doctor and his teams treatment before AND after an upper endoscopy. Everyone was pleasantly nice that morning. Right down to the lady who called me back and the "crazy driver" (thanks Mike! ) who took me to my driver to break out of the hospital. The nurses were pleasant and caring and available to answer any questions. I even remember commenting on one of them, "well, she's a happy little thing." My results were QUICK! The recommendation for treatment was typed up and in my chart within 3 business days. Five if you want to include the weekend. I had questions about my results. I emailed my PCP who sent it to my surgeon that day. Today he ACTUALLY called me to explain, answer my questions and explain further treatment. That doctor was Dr. Bilal Gondal. Thank you for showing me there are some caring doctors left! He spent time with me on the phone. How many doctors do that anymore!
Agree with other reviews. Carle Sucks! Their billing department is horrible and I was treated even though I refused treatment verbally 3 different times I was essentially told I had no choice in the matter and then billed over $5000.00 for a broken nose they did nothing for. Hell $15.00 of the bill was for 2 Tylenol. Insurance companies may have no problem paying these outrageous fees but, at the time I had no insurance. What a bunch of crooks. In addition when I told them all I could afford to pay was $50.00 a month I was told they would just turn me over to a collection department then... F them!
Had to have an emergency c-section there and my son is still there in the NICU - I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the staff. The doctors and nurses were an absolute blessing. They have been very kind and patient with us, helping us understand and giving us the tools we need to manage this situation.
My sister was admitted for two days and still did not get any precise information or diagnosis from her doctor. The doctor was more concerned about praying for her rather than actually discussing her symptoms and medical history.
The ER staff was very unprofessional talking loudly about other people's treatments and running behind. They also sounded confused as if they didnt know what they were doing.
If I could give a lower score I would put a negative 5 star my wife's mom is dieing because her ex husband decided to stop all carry for her and had Nancy Cox bared from the property just because she was asking why they were letting her mom die and she was told that they didn't have to give her that information because her ex husband said so Moran sue Robinson is her mother I don't understand why they are doing this her mom was doing good on Sunday we got back today and she was not getting any thing to hydrate her nor any nutrients they had shut the oxygen off to her and Nancy asked why and they would not tell her why we called them out and told them your letting her die no one there denyid it just told the security to remove her from the hospital just because she wouldn't to know why just be careful with your loved ones if you have anyone there and they were doing good and all of asodin things go bad I ask you please seck help from a different hospital!!!!!!
Worst people to deal with on billing.made payment arrangements and it still isn't enough.called a day later harassing me, turned it into collection agency.such rude people.if I could give 0 stars i would.
Most doctors seem to not care what is wrong with you or how to treat you, which is a horrible trait for a healthcare provider to have. I hate that Carle is pretty much the only place in town I can go to because of my insurance. I am really looking forward to moving just to have the peace of mind the next time I need medical attention I will be able to actually get it.
I wish I could give negative stars. They double billed me over a month after I had a simple diagnostic test, claiming I had a surgery, and they lied to me when I left the doctor's office, claiming everything that was done was covered by my insurance and I didn't have to pay anything (a fact which I have confirmation of via my account details showing 0 balance a week after my appointment). I hate you unethical jerks. No other business gets away with treating people this way, and you shouldn't either.
Grandson was transferred there from a small regional hospital in East Illinois. He had multiple blood clots in both lungs. In nine days of CVICU and regular room stay he was released, completely recovered. Amazing doctors. Amazing and attentive nurses. Friendly staff. Excellent food in the basement cafeteria for us who stayed with him. Wonderful offer of accommodations at the Guest House.
We have had 2 experiences now where staff at Carle SEVERELY messed up and they either omitted the incident or flat out lied in the notes. I dont know how they keep getting away with this. My Grandfather who is on hospice through Carle has no other option for care right now, but because of what just happened over the weekend, we are thinking about installing cameras and recording devices to put an end to this!
Was referred by McKinley at UIUC to see a dermatologist for psoriasis here. Not only did my psoriasis not get controlled, but the doctor left me with a scar the size of a nickel on my back to make sure it was psoriasis, even though I have had psoriasis diagnosed for years now and even though he assured me it would barely be noticable; a "tiny little thing".
The part I am furious about is that now this place is charging a "hospital fee". A hospital fee...for PSORIASIS? For a scheduled appointment in a dermatologist's office? For going in and having him tell me that there's nothing we can do except going on Humira and I have to live with it? I was a college student who was eating ramen to get by as it is, and with NO warning from either Mckinley or the doctor's office at Carle, I got slammed with a $600 out-of-pocket charge after insurance.
We sent a letter to the hospital with not even the courtesy to reply back with an explanation of how they can justify it. There's nothing any patient can do to fight these outrageous, made-up charges and it is absolutely unacceptable.
I told my doctor at McKinley to stop referring students to go to Carle if they are going to continue with the "hospital fee" and poor customer service, as well as my sorority and friends.
Communication break down. They let my Aunt leave and forgot to put a heart monitor on her. They had all day to do it. We had to drive a hour back when the finally figured they had forgotten. Scary place.
I am very upset. I dropped my mother-in-law off at the ER knowing security could wheel her in a wheelchair to where she needed to go. I leave her to park my car. My mother-in-law told the lady at the first check point that she needed to use the bathroom. The lady at the checkpoint tells her they are outside. So, my mother-in-law had to use the porta toilet outside in the construction area. Really Carle, is this how you treat your patients? My mother-in-law had oxygen of 79 and was struggling to breathe. I asked these workers who interacted with her, what were you thinking trading a patient like that? Their response, sorry we did not know she was a patient. I am so disappointed in Carle right now.
Doctors do not care here.. have been to way too many gynecologist that refuse to actually help me. Every time i ask for a specific testing it s always an argument or they just refuse to hear me out. Have been to like 4 or 5 different gynecologist and i am absolutely done with Carle Hospital. Not even understanding how some of them were hired. At this point I feel like i am more knowledgeable than the gynecologists at this place..
I have had 3 separate occasions where they have coded things wrong. I have a $60 copay for a specialist visits and the last visit I had I was charged $740. They explained I had to pay for the room I was using, a facility charge. In addition, since it was my first appointment to establish a doctor in the area, which lasted 10 mins, they explained a new patient fee is different that a general visit. The hospital is more concerned with money than patient care. It is very sad.
WORST hospital ever seriously if have the option of going to another hospital please for your own sake go to the other hospital. Terrible service and are only looking to get money out of patients they don t care for the patients at all. All we are to them is a paycheck so they won t even listen to your concerns properly.
They almost killed me there, the nurses were awful. I have a double lung transplant and when they pulled the midline out, it caused a blood clot and I also left with clostridium. Terrible care would not take my dog there.
How can a 413 Bed Regional Hospital say that it might not be open 24 hours today because "Black Friday might afffect it's operating hours" WHAT???? And it is very difficult to make appointments in the Carle system. They pretend like it is easy, but the online scheduling system does not work (at least for me). I have had to phone the secretary pool every single time and I usually get transferred. Bad system.
I will always recommend Carle. When I was pregnant with my daughter and was having issues they took the extra precautions to make sure she was developing correctly. I typically go to the Carle in Mattoon but did have to go up to the mail campus to see MFM. They always tired to get me closest to Mattoon for my appointment when they were available. When my daughter was born the Staff was AMAZING not only with Labor and delivery but also postpartum and the NICU. When my daughter was two months old she got a virus and was running a high fever. I took her to Sarah Bush ER as it was late and didn't want to drive all the way to Champaign. I requested to be transferred to carle when they said that she needed to be admitted. Sarah Bush stated they were going to probably Strap her car seat to Gurney. However, Carle sent down a pediatric Ambulance that was very nice and was climate controlled so that she would stay warm and also not be exposed to the other germs as we went through the hospital. When we were in the pediatric unit everyone was so nice and helpful and always found answers to my questions and explained thing to me in a valid way. One of her test came back that had some questioning they admitted they normally do not handle that for such young children so they went ahead and sent it off to someone in Peoria who handles it. I have had nothing but a great experience with them and they are the only ones who I will take my daughter to because I know she will be well taken care of.
Highly recommend Carle foundation. Every aspect of care is accounted for and treated as top priority. From housekeeping to food service to nurses. Carle seems to only employee the best. If I ever need another procedure done again, I will definitely drive the 90 miles south to Carle.
As a whole, the staff at the hospital are kind, caring, and truly concerned about the patients. This applies to everyone from the workers in valet service to foodservice to HCT'S to physicians.
Everyone except one doctor named Zhaohui Jin were kind, he overwhelmed one of my relatives and she was so upset. He said he understood but he didn't act like it. This is only a warning for you and your family.
I've been going to Carle hospital for years and they've always done a great job! My father has been going there for 52 years for his rheumatoid arthritis and he continues to go there to this day...so I would say he's happy with their service. If it wasn't for Carle hospital and their excellent doctors I myself may have died. My doctor discovered a blood clot in my lung and they pretty much saved my life. So needless to say I will continue going to Carle hospital for...God willing...many years to come. A+++++
My son went to Carle for care, and they charged 4 times the cost for an ENT to help him than another facility that he went to earlier in the year. Be careful that you get an estimate before any procedure, even if you have good insurance and if Carle is considered in-network!!
So i tried to pay my medical bill today. I called around 4:45 PM and a lady named Cathy answered. I wanted to setup a recurring payment. She took my initial payment and told me i needed to all back in a month. I said again i wanted to setup a recurring payment, she said that I would have to call back in a month. I said doesn't that defeat the purpose of a recurring payment?? She said there are other ways of paying and that i did not have to do it over the phone. I get it, Its 4:45PM and she dosen't want to deal with one more caller. I asked her to put me on the phone with someone that can get this done for me and that i did not want to call back in a month. She put me on hold and came back to tell me that everyone had left and that the only way they could get this done is if i called back tomorrow. so now instead of a month its tomorrow.. Very professional. I got almost a $6000 bill because wife and I had our 2nd daughter there but they won't let me setup a recurring payment that day because this employee doesn't want to be bothered with setting up a payment at 4:45 PM.
Carl hospital will show smiling faces to their patients at the counter, but behind the scenes they don't seem to care at all about their customers. And customers is what we are to this big bully of a institution like Carl. They treat their patients as needed to maintain their status as a OK Hospital. My wife and I had our 2nd daughter there. We have decent insurance but somehow the bill was huge. Its ridiculous what they charge you for an Advil and a diaper. So fine, i get it, i cant fight this. This "non profit organization" has me, and all the other poor saps in their grips. But for this employee to tell me that neither she or anyone else there is going to help me setup a recurring payment this evening is not right. IM TRYING TO GIVE THEM MONEY! So here is the bottom line.
I Have to pay them money but only when they feel like taking, and if they don't? I have to try again the next day. Hopefully i won't interrupt a conversation or a snack break or something.
Every contact with Carle hospital or physicians has been unsatisfactory. The financial charges are unethical. If I believed in curses, I would whip up a doozy.
Physician & Nursing care is good. Billing/Accounts Receivable are the worst I have ever dealt with regardless of organization or industry! Working to find in network providers at Christie clinic solely to get away from the Carle headaches.
I'd like to think that when I read a review about a Hospital , the review is about the medical care one recieves, not the damn billing system! I'm sorry but I don't think it's fair giving the hospital one star for non medical reasons. For me, if my ass got better and I was treated properly by competent doctors and staff, I'm giving it four stars and I'll worry about the bill later.
Worst facility I have ever been to, and I've been to some rough ones. They routinely have misdiagnosed, mistreated, and mishandled myself and my fiancee.
They performed procedures on me without explaining what they were adequately beforehand (we are just putting some gauze in your nose = we are inserting a tampon so far into your nose it busts things and causes complications), they misdiagnosed my fiancee, and they charged us excessively for this treatment by pulling as many loopholes and gotchas as they can for being a "hospital" (even if you went to the urgent care).
They will smile at you the whole time they are doing it too. Watch how fast they change their colors if you question them or try to file a complaint though. I have never so quickly heard a customer service representative go from polite to outright adversarial.
I had correspondence with multiple of their higher level staff, and it took me escalating three times before anyone even so much as *listened* to what I was saying and gave me a coherent, albeit, negative, response.
Unless you are *absolutely* going to die, go to any other location or tough it out. It is not worth going to this facility. I have toughed out illnesses instead of going here since then because of the amount of physical suffering they caused me (let alone anguish afterward dealing with them).
Great care over the last 3 hospitalizations for my mother s CHF. Nurses are great and knowledgeable and Doctors actually explain what is going on and how they are going to treat it.
Beware the Carle facilities charges $265 in facilities charges for nothing more than sitting in their room. $750 in total charges for a 20 minute exam that could have been completed by my 14 year old daughter with 20 minutes of training. I cannot fathom how they justify these charges.
I have been sitting in the ER waiting room for an hour now they call me back get me back there and the bed is full so now I'm back in the waiting room nurse said she was going to go clean a room and get me back in about 5 minutes . Keep in mind I'm here for my potassium being extremely low and the pills aren't working so my dr had me come here I'm in pain, dizzy, blurry vision, can barely keep my eyes open. But hey let's have me sit in the waiting room great idea . Freaking hate hospitals
Wife had emergency surgery on her arm. Staff was amazing. Explained every med she was given, and seemed genuinely caring about her and my comfort. Food is really good too. From housekeeping, nurses, food people, and surgeons everyone has been amazing. Dunno what floors all the negative reviews are coming from but floor 6 staff is incredible
Their providers are good to okay. Their billing system on the other hand is horrendous. They just blindly send out statement making patients overpay and when insurance actually pays and when you have a credit, how many times do you have to call to get the money back?? Jeez...
I had a horrible experience at Carle. Our first baby was born at 8:30am on April 14. At around 11:30am that day, the nurse, Jamie, if I didn t remember her name wrong, tried to teach us how to breastfeed, she pressed my baby s head, really hard, downward my nipple(yes, make my baby facing down and the respiratory tube was blocked). We were all very concerned and even tried to lift the baby s head, but she continued on doing it for about two minutes. Then the baby s face and body turned blue/purple right after. We expressed our concerns and our baby was sent to the nursing room on the 11th floor and I was told her oxygen level decreased to 60. That night our baby was sent to NICU and stayed there for five days. She suffered a lot in NICU with a lot of tubes, and my baby was doing great in NICU without any breathing issue, except for sometimes the machine may give false alarms when she moves a lot. No event occurred and her oxygen level stayed at around 95-100, which is perfect for a newborn. When we were discharged at NICU, the nurse informed us that one should not press baby s head downward, which will block her respiratory system, stop her breathing and 30 seconds of that action may cause big problem. We realized that that was exactly the nurse did on my baby s birth date. We feel very angry. We realized that if there is no Jamie's breastfeeding teaching experience, our baby may not need to go to NICU and suffer so much unnecessary pain. Most important, no breathing for some time and lack of Oxygen could cause brain damage. If my baby is healthy in the future, then that s is fine. Otherwise, we will be very regret of delivering at Carle and reserve any right of us as a patient. At this stage, we are very mad of the skills of that nurse on the 11th floor and hope there is no potential side effect of that lack of oxygen experience. Moreover, my baby s discharge from the hospital delayed 3 days and we received a big bill for my baby s NICU care at Carle, which is not fully covered by our insurance. If possible, I will give zero star to Carle's experience.
By the way, when my baby discharged from NICU, we packed very fast (5-10 mins) and my husband went to pickup our car in the parking lot. We want to leave, but the nurse let us stay for 15 more minutes after the packing and saying that I don't want you wait outside if the car is not arriving. When we went downstairs, my husband has waited there for some time. And today a $295 charge show up in my carle account, saying discharge > 30 min. What? The hospital will charge us if we didn't leave in 30 mins, then is it on purpose that the nurse let us wait for another 15 mins upstairs???!!! My friend just delivered a baby at Carle recently and she had a similar discharge experience and got a delay discharge bill. Definitely zero star.
Carle hospital is a wonderful hospital with great nurses and doctors that have degrees and that know what they are talking about great job you all keep up the great work
Carle Foundation Hospital offers a variety of services for patients of all ages. Definitely the best hospital south of Chicago land for Pediatrics, Neurology, and cardiology.
Service depends on department. I could not get an appointment with my primary sooner than six month. A gastroenterologist was incompetent, ear, nose, and throat doctor was terrible, hematologist was good. They do have advanced equipment, but the management is awful, they never return calls and are in general indifferent. There used to be a non-profit clinic and for-profit hospital. Now the hospital "bought" the clinic (total fraud). Now it's the same organization on paper only: Medicare patients can use inpatient services, but outpatient visits are not covered.
Almost Died - Visited Convenient Care on 9/17/2014 and was diagnosed with allergies because of shortness of breath.. Sent home with Prednisone and traveled 700 miles in a car. Upon immediate arrival in NC a NC doctor diagnosed me with pulmonary embolism. I was in the hospital seven days, three in ICU. I just got a collection letter from a company called H&R Accounts in Moline, IL stating that I owe Carle Hospital $11.51. Carle Hospital sent me to Collections over $11.51. . I should file a lawsuit for wrong diagnosis. Thank God I am out of IL and away from that hospital.
I've gone to Carle for the last 32 years - until now. In the 80s & 90s they were the best place to go for medical care. I had my first child there, my mother's life was saved there after a severe wreck - I even worked for them for 10 years. They've been a huge part of my life. Sadly, things have gone downhill and they are out of control. It's impossible to get in to your own doctor. They will always say that it's a 3-6-9 month wait but we can get you into a new guy with no experience. Their billing is constantly messed up - I was getting revised bills for a miscarriage for literally 7 months after it was paid in full. When I had the miscarriage they shifted me around to three different doctors during the one appointment and did very little to prepare me for what I was about to actually experience. My PCP of 25 years left and I was not notified until I tried to get in to see my nurse practitioner whom I always visited and was told I could no longer see her (after her taking care of me for literally 25 years) because she was connected to my PCP who retired without notification to me - I would have to choose a new doctor and see HIS nurse practitioner. Most recently, I was on hold 16 minutes just to try to make an appointment. I wanted to first confirm they would take my new insurance, as it had changed. She said she had no idea, I would have to check with the insurance company. I said the insurance company said to confirm with my doctor, and she said she could transfer me to the billing department if I wanted (which I declined, not wanting another 20 minute wait). I tried to make an appointment with my doctor who had helped me through some serious issues, whom I really like and trust (Dillard) - I wanted an annual wellness visit and to ask about some issues I'm having. I was told since this doctor hadn't performed my wellness exams in the past (since they always tell me she's not available, I usually let a nurse do the routine things!) I could not go to her for this, as she's not accepting new annual exam patients, but I could schedule an appointment with her for the issues I'm having and schedule an appointment with a different provider for an annual exam. I confirmed that I was hearing correctly, that I couldn't visit my doctor for the annual exam (which takes 10 minutes?!) and ask her some questions at the same time - I would have to schedule, and, more importantly, pay for, 2 separate appointments. It is extremely sad to me that I can no longer deal with Carle and their practices to be able to see Dr. Dillard, who is a wonderful physician. I'll have to start from scratch at another facility and hope they transfer my records correctly. :(
Ridiculous wait time for a "transport/escort" out of the building. Probably got 25 nurses sitting around not doing a d@$! thing... Been an hour just about and still waiting.
At the ER at noon on a Monday. Waiting room is full. 2 people have said they feel like they are going to pass out and they tell them they have no rooms. An older lady has blood running out of her nose (not dripping, running) and some lady is talking on the phone about how she has scabies all over her. Go any place else besides this ER.
I spent the night in the hospital after having my son , came out to my car and someone had hit my car in the e.r parking lot. Security Has the video of the incident but couldn t figure out who has done this horrible crime ,now I am forced to pay for my damages myself.
I went for an orthopedic appointment because I had issues with my foot. The appointment wasn't particularly helpful and I did not like my doctor. But the BIGGEST issue was paying for the appointment. Carle never bothered to ask me my preferred address (or home vs campus/ permanent vs temporary). So, they start sending me the bills A MONTH after I have the appointment. I'm a student at UIUC, and I had the appointment mid-April, so by the time they send this bill to my campus address (I thought they would handle this all electronically but no), I was gone. They would keep sending me a paper bill, never calling though. And by the time I did see them when I got back in August and my dad called to pay, they somehow still were never able to process it and Carle STILL kept sending me bills. It was getting outrageous and stressful at the time, and the matter still hasn't been settled! What will it take to get this paid for by their clearly lacking billing department? I don't know. It's been a giant pain all because of their incompetence. I'm never deliberately coming here again, to volunteer or as a patient.
This hospital is terrible. They constantly ask what s wrong with you but don t help in trying to resolve the problem. I come here only when I m really in dying pain and leave the same condition I came. This hospital could care less if you lived or died. It s ridiculous. What happened to the caring facility and workers they use to have. Don t waste your time coming here. Sorry not sorry
As a cancer treatment center it was a terrible experience. A lot of things were said that turned out to not be true. Dr Barnett in radiation was never on time and preoccupied when he had time for your visit. The billing department is at best terrible on a good day and they do not use your insurance in your best interest. They will bill out of network when they can so proceed with caution.
Had my first baby here and after having my second child at a different hospital I realized just how poor my experience at Carle had been. I had a planned c-section, and after my completely healthy son was delivered he was taken away and I didn't see him again for probably two hours. My husband was in the OR with me and was not allowed to go with our son to the nursery because it was flu season. It was a terrible entrance to the world for my son and I was so anxious about his whereabouts. I was sitting in my private room post-recovery with no baby!!! It was terrible. My second birth experience (at a different hospital) was incredible and I was never separated from my child even though I again had a c-section. I would absolutely not recommend this hospital. Additionally, have you ever heard of a hospital in the middle of cornfields charging for parking???? My current hospital and doctor office in Florida overlooks the Gulf of Mexico and parking is free and they also offer complimentary valet. Bottom line: find another hospital.
I was in and out of Carle Hospital since approximately 2003. By far Carle has been the best hospital experience I have ever had. The doctors, nurses, assistants and even the custodians and kitchen workers were awesome. I'm lucky enough to have a hospital here in Virginia (Inova Loudon) that I call the sister to Carle. I miss Urbana, Il.
If I could rate the hospital at zero I probably would. My son had seizures due to fevers. When all was said and done I still didn't know what was causing his reoccurring fevers. So after I got out of Illinois and drove to Ohio I had to stop at a local urgent Care to find that answer and get antibiotics. You would think that you could get that answer after talking to doctors and nurses in the ER. Also when my wife called to make a payment she had to hand me the phone to have a lady tell me I had to authorize my wife to be able to make payments. My wife is the one we set up reoccuring payments. So the hospital let her set up payments but then wouldn't let her make a payment what the heck. Also the billing department is a nightmare. You set up recurring payments and it doesn't go through and the ladies in billing have monotone voices and are not empathetic.
Re:Uro-gynecologist: Dr. Leon Plowright. I am a current patient of Dr. Plowright. I first met with him in Sept 2018 for bladder concerns and later discovered that I had a prolapsed bladder and uterus. This was hard to accept because I thought I was pretty healthy. 20 + yrs of weight lifting eating right, exercising ... surely there was a mistake. Prior to my reconstructive surgery and after, Dr. Plowright and his entire staff (especially Kennedy & Flow) have been courteous, respectful, attentive and have made every visit feel like home. Dr. Plowright doesn't rush you out of his office. Be takes time to actually listen, translate medical terminology in plain English. He and his staff follows up via phone or in portal to ensure concerns are addressed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. His bedside manner is far beyond any other doctor I've encountered. Common courtesy doesn't cost anything. More people are quick to complain and yet slow to compliment.
My husband got surgery there, and the physician even admitted to cut "the wrong thing," the physician still working there. They did not even give him a wheelchair after the surgery or let me see him. So, he had to walk across the hospital in pain after being botched.
I had 3 appointments with Carle in 2015. The first they incorrectly told me was covered by my insurance, the second the doctor told me she had other patients to get to less than 15 minutes after I came in and left without listening to everything wrong, in the third a new assistant's communication error resulted in my receiving a duplicate Hepatitis shot - which along w/ other immunizations they "codded wrong" so my insurance didn't pay initially. Contacting Carle regarding the second appointment resulted in a rude letter saying the doctor gave good care but to write again and they'd review it. I wrote again. Months later Carle says they have no record of me writing the 1st or 2nd letter, thus I need to write in again. The phone trees are ridiculous. I'm currently talking to the 4th person in a half hour (and counting) long phone call in order to get one appointment booked.
I CAN'T BELIEVE CARLE SECURITY REFUSED TO HELP ME CHANGE A TIRE - IT'S AGAINST THEIR POLICY. My hubby had a procedure and when I got to the car the tire was completely flat. The reception lady called security and they said it was against the policy to help. Are you kidding me - that's how far our society has slid when being a Good Samaritan is a violation of policy.
Okay so...I didn t receive the survey in the mail but would like to provide recognition to the amazing staff here.
I was admitted last week to their ER for early but severe opioid withdrawal. I had a 1.5 week long gap in my Suboxone treatment and had no idea what to do since the sickness was building up on me FAST. My boyfriend and I don t trust Sarah Bush or St Anthony s ER to be progressive and up to date on this issue therefore we drove to Urbana.
I saw a lovely younger gentleman (PA-C) whose name I sadly missed. He was very non-judgemental and provided the care I needed. It was all a very point blank assessment of my symptoms and he went about managing my symptoms with empathy. It was like treating any other health issue - I wasn t made to feel like a drug seeking junkie which drove me to tears from his kindness and understanding when I was discharged.
Physicians like the one I saw are what we need to save lives in the opioid crisis of today. Yale medical school proves that treatment in the ER with bup or methadone makes one 2x more likely to engage with treatment.
Thank you to the Carle ER staff, for not making me feel less than or like a nuisance. Btw after discharge I felt almost immediate relief of my agonizing symptoms and arranged follow up care on the ride home to continue treatment. I guess I felt inspired.
