We are here as part of a tour and the food was very good as well as the service. Defenitely worth a visit and they have blue crab on the menu if this is something that you like. Prices are reasonable and the views of the Patomac river are beautiful.

Didn't seem busy, servers sitting around chatting, was slow to take orders, drinks then walked away even though we said ready to order food. Once we had drinks they stayed full, just took forever to get through the meal. My fish & chips batter was thicker than fish & overcooked, though a ton of fries. We had loaded fries appetizer was good. The rest of my table except other girls who got what I did seemed to be OK with their food. Having just completed a 5k I was starving, but this wouldn't be my first choice next time unless I wanted oysters (we didn't have them but the restaurant smelled of them).

I searched the internet and found this place highly recommended so I made this the number one place to stop when I arrived for business. The view of the Potomac was great, but that is all. I did not get the whole crabs, so if this is on your list of food items, then it may be good, but I had their Seafood Platter and the breading had an off taste, some of the items were cold and the small salad bar looked as if it had been sitting around for a few days. I do not like flimsy plastic glasses for my drinks, so the meal started off on the wrong foot and I had to find the server (took a while) and request more cocktail sauce (to mask the stale breading flavor). The prices were high and I felt ripped off (plus I had to pay $3 for the stupid bridge toll!!!) If you want a superb meal for less money (but without the view) try the Crabby Oyster in Virginia.
Captain Billy must be a pirate.....

If you want a comfortable restaurant with terrific views, fast service, and crabs. This is your place. It is not a fancy restaurant and the other food is adequate, but if you want to pick crabs or have crab cakes with your friends, this is the place for you.

My wife had the steamed shrimp. They were small and had very little spice. I had the fried sampler. The scallops and clams were fine, but the haddock was extremely thin. The coating completely overpowered any taste. We will not be going back.

Been coming here almost 50 years. It was the best back when Captain Billy was around. Over the years its lost the feeling of a really good steamed crab restaurant.
Then again it may be I'm just getting older lol.

Always delicious and as fresh as it gets. My husband normally gets the seafood platter with steamed crab and shrimp that's meant for two people, and can finish it by myself. Great staff and great location too!

On the banks of the Potomac River, just a few miles west of the Chesapeake Bay, sits the iconic Captain Billy's restaurant. More like a bonifide crabhouse, selling steamed blue crabs, king crab legs, perfect hush puppies, crabcakes, along with an assortment of beverages and cocktails to wash em down. The views from the outdoor seating are awesome, the staff are competent and lovely, and it all boils down to a very pleasant experience,. ...one which we travel from Richmond to Maryland once or twice a year, many years running now. It's one of our favorite spots, ... not fancy at all, but satisfying in a very special kind of way. Authentic and satisfying on many levels.

This was our 3rd time going to Captain Billy's, the 1st time was really good, the 2nd time wasn't as good as the 1st, we went back the 3rd time because we talked about how good it was the 1st time, we went with our friends this 3rd time, we were so disappointed, the food was not fresh at all, it was like they used old cooking oil, we were so embarrassed, telling our friends how good this place was. We will not be driving a hour an a half for seafood, we will just go to Skrimp Shack, not Shrimp but Skrimp good fresh food everything time

Went here with friends as we drove out of town on our honeymoon. Love the steamed crabs, historic feel, the locals on the staff and the lovely views. Their seasoning is wonderful even on shrimp and oysters.

Our experience was terrible. We went to the Restaurant on 4/14. We had a family member from Ohio with us and we wanted to support and try a Southern Maryland Seafood Restaurant. I found this restaurant. The food was cold and not appetizing . We spent over $150 on the meals and we were totally disappointed.

Wonderful atmosphere and quick service, plenty of seating inside or outside to overlook the Potomac River, Scallops were some of the best I have ever had, Oysters and Tilapia breaded and seasoned very nicely.
