Capt. Billy's Review

I ordered broiled rock fish which came with a salad and baked potato. The salad was iceberg lettuce chunks, the fish was a small filet that was over cooked and tough and the potato was overcooked as well. I got a side order of fried oysters. They had a lot of breading on them but were seasoned well. I also ordered an alcoholic beverage and surprise, they brought me a virgin drink instead. This was a terrible experience for them to specialize in seafood. I would not recommend.

The food is pretty good! You get what you pay for, since the prices are reasonable for a reason.

While sitting on the Potomac eating the freshest Crabs, Huge Shrimp, and Fresh Fish.. I lived my Best Life in Hot Butter watching the Sunset..

Crabs were small/medium but fat and delicious. $35 doz. Cream of crab soup was delicious. Stuffed mushrooms were very good. And last but not least the beer was cold!

How can anyone say that the food is average? I met a friend and his wife from Baltimore that I have known for over 60 years and we agreed to meet at Billy's. We live in Midlothian VA ( former MD residents) and the trip was well worth it. I had the crab salad which included crab, potatoe salad, cole slaw diced tomatoes, pickles and a generous slice of cantalope. My wife had the crab cake sandwhich and my friends wife had the crab melt. My friend doesn't like seafood and he had a chicken sandwhich. Boy did he miss out. Even though he said that the chicken sandwhich was good, there is no way that it could compare to our lunch. Everyone enjoyed and complimented about how good their lunch was.
In the past my wife and I have driven from Midlothian VA to Billy's for the steamed crabs. This was the first time we had lunch there. I will say that we all agreed that we would meet there again for lunch or dinner.
Yes, it was that good and worth the 178 mile round trip.

Very nice location on the river, waitresses are very nice and they hussle and the crabs were hot and heavy and better than most places.

Best lump blue crab cakes I have ever had. The restaurant is looking over the pier which gives it a very nice water front view. They have huge seafood platters at a reasonable price and definitely great place for family. Highly recommend checking them out as everything is fresh and very tasty.

Not quite crab season but pleasant friendly lunchtime environment.

This was our very first trip to a place I discovered has been around since 1947. You learn a few things about service when you have that kind of longevity. All the food was good and the service was way past good. Good is when you get a greeting from the hostess and get seated quickly. Our service was personal from the beginning and it did not stop even after I paid the bill. The view was super nice and the atmosphere great as every table got good service from the wait staff. The crab bombs blew us away and my love of scallops was just the thing to end our long stay at home because of covid19. This was a great experience and we plan to attend again on Monday! I love this spot! They give first-rate meals, they have a nice menu, The chef in that place is well trained, I like very much eating all their dishes. The dishes are always fresh and tasty, the service towards the customers is very good too. I go often to this place and I not even once was unsatisfied. I recommend it to all.

Donna my waitress was great and the food good. The hostesses here need more of a personality, smile greet guest by speaking "welcome to Captain Billy's or a Hello how many in your party today. Guest shouldn't have to speak first going to a place to spend money. This happened to several people that came in. Observed bartender playing with her hair, decisions I keep in ponytail or all open she never once washed her hands. Restaurant business has changed & people observe everything. Clutter around bar area, clean the lights, dusty above bar. Just my thoughts for owner to improve where needed.

I tried this place once with my friend and I am addicted since then. I enjoyed the good ambience and delightful food and beverages. Fantastic work.

Awful food. Bun had mold on it and the waitress did not apologize. She told us it wasn't mold (it was, I know what bread mold looks like) but she could switch it for a new bun if we wanted. Corn fritters smelled like they were fried in rancid oil. I had a salad and the lettuce was browning at the edges. That being said, the view of the water is lovely. I imagine if you came here on a summer night for a beer, it would be great. Just don't risk the food

My family and I have been coming here for years. Love the friendly staff and the food is Awesome. I especially love the fact that they allow you to share the platters. Sometime we want seafood but not a lot and to share the platters keeps us coming back year after year.

I am literally fit to be tied and used as an anchor. Me and my family enjoyed our Captain Billy experience immensely.

We have been to Captain Billys on many occasions as we head toward Colonial Beach Va.
Food and service has always been nice.
We stopped last week for a Soft Crab sandwich.
It was served on a very stale hamburger
Roll. The waitress acknowledged that it has been a problem and brought out fresh bread for us to finish our sandwiches.
She told the kitchen manager and the kitchen manager did not care.
For $17.99 per sandwich I would think they should care and do better.
We will not be going back.

Well the food was over cooked, but the view of the water was real nice while drinking my 3.00 beer.

Great view. Weather was nice and the crabs were medium size but full. Wait staff exceptional. Price moderate.

Hadn't been here in a while after a few bad experiences years ago. Finally came back and everything we had was really good. Nothing like what I remember.

The crabs were good but the first one I picked up was cold. The hush puppies were sad. Our waitress was nice but she seemed to have a problem with her coworkers. And for entertainment, I watched the busboys play rock paper scissors to see who would have to take out the trash.

Cream of Crab was a bit pricier, but the crab cake sandwich was amazing. View from the deck was awesome!

The service and food was bad. Maybe they are known for crabs and shrimps. I ordered a crabcake sandwich with fries. Sandwich came out before the fries and it was too much filler in crabcake.

Fun place to go if you like to sit back pick at crabs and drink.

Absolutely horrible, poor quality crabcake was more filler than crab meat .shrimp was not Devine. Plus the grease was old and burnt .food was very dark

Not an ounce of crab in t h e cream nor maryland styles. More filler in the crab cakes than acceptable. Steamed shrimp and fried oysters were delicious. Stay away from the crab dishes

Waterfront Restaurant with Hardshell Crabs as the mainfare. Shrimp, oysters, mussels, fresh fish, oyster stew, crab soup, drink specials - you can't go wrong if you love fresh Seafood! Definitely a LOCALS favorite.

Captain Billy's always keeps ahead of the game in the very competitive local restaurant scene. You do that successfully by walking the fine line between good old-fashioned recipes and modern American expectations. On my most recent visit they had upgraded the tastes, it seemed to me, once again. The food was fresh and perfectly prepared and seasoned. And the staff is efficient and helpful. Always a real winner going here!

Well I called this place to see if they have all you can eat crabs and the older lady who answered was beyond rude. I was looking forward to going to this place to try out but certainly not now. How do you run a restaurant and be so rude. Good luck with that.

I love this place, the crabs are good and affordable. The staff is very friendly and nice. The drive is worth it, not super fancy, you can relax and eat crabs at your place until you're full without being rushed. We go all the time.

Waitress didn't frequent table as often as need be. Crab cakes weren't that good. Steak over cooked, just because you order a well done steak doesn't mean you want it burned. They've lost me as a customer.
