A popular favorite on the water for over 50 years. The area has not been developed which maintains it's charm. Perfect for families, seniors, parties and groups.
There is usually a brief delay but there are outdoor waiting areas.
The atmosphere is casual, with bay view seating along the back windows.
Crabs have been a popular favorite forever. The menu also offers a kids section. Choose carefully, because the portions are large.
Service is great, prices start in the 20s on up. Parking is free, across from the restaurant in an open field, which still has not been developed since the 40s.
Reservations are only required for groups 10 and more.

The hostesses here do not know how to seat people. There were 6 of us and they were confused as hell. They could have placed us on one of their regular booth seats in the first place - which we ended up sitting in anyway. Instead, they made us wait over an hour so they can put us in the large party area. Ended up running out of crabs cuz we waited too long.. pretty much pointless. Worst mother's day ever..

Service was great once we were seated. We had a 630 reservation and we weren't seated until 730. Snow crab legs were ice cold coming out and the crabs you could tell were re heated. Sides came out nearly 20 mintues before actual meal.

The seafood dip and crab sandwich was good. The bathroom stalls were dark, no light, felt bad for people with kids and it was small.
The bar was dark no light, staff entering from outside go right behind bar to fill up cup with soda no hand washing.
There were magazines stacked at end of bar and cardboard boxes on a table with Reebok tennis shoes in it that patrons could have been seated but just sat there on the table.
Hostesses don't speak when you walk up, you have to speak to them first and no smile no welcome to captain billy's, most of them were teens so need some serious training, folks spending money make me feel welcomed.
My waitress was great.

I don't like crabs, so I tried the fish sandwich, salad and fries. The salad was underwelming, which is disappointing because it's hard to mess up lettuce and dressing. The fries were very sad - cold, with a knock off imitation quality to them. Fish was was under fried. They added enormous gratuity to the bill. I will never return.

Always fun and great seafood. Worth the drive from the Capitol area. A little pricy... plan on $50 per person to get your fill on things like Chesapeake crabs, snow crab legs, boiled shrimp, etc.

Got seated right away. The waiter was very good. The food was just ok. Got the steamed platter. The king crab was good but the hard crabs and the shrimp were overcooked. It's a crab house and there shouldn't be a problem cooking crabs.

Service was excellent. The food is not what I remember. The cream of crab soup had no crab, and the seasoning on the crabs made it seem like they were boiled in sand. I'm pretty sure I got a dozen crabs that another table sent back. But it wasn't one of their busier days and they were clearly training new crew members, so I'm hoping when I return it will be back to the standards I remember.

I have never been disrespected or humiliated like this ever in my entire life. i drove a hour here from DC. When first meeting the waitress she seemed irritated and in a rush. The place is riddled with nets and flies so i asked to be moved and she responded there was flies everywhere moving wouldn't make a difference. I did eventually move and she told me good luck. Near the end of our meal the nasty waitress told me in front of my date that i look like precious. Now i am at least 200 pounds lighter and couple of shades lighter i am a brown skin women however i look nothing like that women. This WHITE waitress continued to tell me how beautiful precious is after i explained to her that i was offended. i even asked another black couple who happened to be regulars do they understand why i am offended and they agreed and they where calling this women by her first name they where all familiar with each other. I then told the women she looked like precious and she laughed and said no. at that point i knew she knew it wasn't a compliment. After speaking to the manager who clearly didnt understand at first until i showed her a picture and at that moment she understood why this was offensive. she did apologize and offered a 6 dollar discount on a 65$ bill. I have never been so embarrassed in my life im glad i was not with a group of people. There is absolutely no excuse for this if she thought i was beautiful then thats what she should have said. I will advise that NO BLACK PERSON EATS HERE. and i will be posting this everywhere and updating it continuously. This kind of underhanded backdoor racism will not be tolerated it 2019 we have voices and i will use mines

I don't usually post, but this has to be one of the least impressive seafood meals I've ever had. I had a dozen crabs and my wife had a mixed seafood platter. Everything was overcooked. The salads were warm and limp, and the dressings were cheap. Billy's has a beautiful location in a nice staff, but I won't be back.

Not impressed. They ran out of their crabs and the baskets ended up being a grease basket. My son didn't even like his hot dog. Not to mention, the green beans had bacon in it. The waitress did not even let us know before we placed the order. Needless to say, it was my first for my family and we won't be returning.

I like the place and it has seafood obviously my favorite! One thing that bothered me was that the crab cakes, while they are good, had too much salt which takes away from the actual delightfulness of the crab. It was the same for some of the shrimp. Otherwise it's a good place to go.

The view, if you sit outside, is quite relaxing. Sitting by the water and enjoying seafood is perfection all in one.

Excellent, top-notch. One of the best meals I've had in a while. My husband and I had Rockfish and Lump Crabmeat Cake. Extremely fresh, generous portions were cooked perfectly. All the sides were excellent, as well. Our waiter was very professional, friendly and competent. I hope they stay open later in the season this year. Highly recommend!

Being on the water the views are the best feature ...

Being on the water the views are the best feature of the restaurant and why I'll give three stars. We had lunch there. Our waiter misheard my order and the fried shrimp platter I asked for came out the fried seafood trawler she thought she heard me say. While I don't eat oysters or scallops there was enough other items in the trawler I do eat I went ahead and kept it to get a sample of all they offered. I found the fried fish with the meal to have little taste or seasoning. The friend shrimp in the trawler was okay but didn't have that fresh caught taste I associate with a good seafood restaurant. The crab cake was fine. The hushpuppies that come with the meal were a bit hard. I has potato salad and vegetable of the day, succotash, as my sides. I like the potato salad and the portion was generous. The succotash was good but it tasted like they used a bit of old bay seasoning in it which I could have lived without. I gave my oysters and scallops to a friend dining with us. She had been looking forward to the oysters as they are a favorite of hers but sadly she was left completely disappointed. The breading on the oysters wasn't the same breading on the rest of the seafood trawler. It was very soggy and overly dark. She had one oyster and didn't want any more because of the soggy breading. My husband order their shrimp platter as well and he actually was given the meal he ordered. He said his meal was fine, not great but okay. I would say that if you go for the views and are okay with okay but not great food and your server can get your order right then you'll be okay eating here. If you're looking for GREAT seafood. I'd keep looking.

We went for the blue crabs for my mother's 75th birthday. It was a hot muggy day, but we sat out on the back porch anyway. The fans and the breeze from the Potomac kept us cool. Our waitress was very attentive and efficient. The crabs were good and nicely spiced. (I hate it when they cake the Old Bay on, but Captain Billy's didn't do that). We had onion rings to start off and a couple of beers. Perfect. I think we surprised the waitress when we ordered a bunch of battered french fries for dessert instead of cake. Lol. The bill was a lot less than we expected--what a pleasant surprise. The drive down from South Bowie, combined with the experience at the restaurant made for an absolutely PERFECT day. Thanks Captain Billy's.

Drove 2 hours to get here and we could not get served. It was not crowded and saw many employees sitting around. Talked to the manager and he did not seem to care. Thanks for the horrible experience!

The atmosphere was beautiful, sitting outside for lunch with spectacular weather! Treat my son to a belated Birthday brunch. It had been years, decades since we had been there together. The service was prompt and attentive. And the food was delish!!

We haven t eaten here in fifteen plus years. We moved to Va 15 years ago and the seafood is what we miss the most about living here!

We made a special trip here to have some good ole seafood at Captain Billy s and I m happy to say the food is as good today as it was over 15 years ago.

But, what impressed me the most was
our waiter Chase ! He was amazing! We had 5 women and my husband. As women we can be picky and indecisive, and we were a little bit of both. Chase delivered all of our special requests and meals perfectly and with a huge smile!

I can tell Chase is a hard worker, always happy and very professional! Great job Chase and keep up the great work. I m happy that Captain Billy s employs such great waiter like Chase!

My wife and I boated down one Sunday and it was so good that we brought friends back the following Sunday. Food was good and the waitress was great as well. Same one as last Sunday. You can bring your dogs there for outside seating. The waitress was nice enough to bring our two Cane Corso's water both times. Which deserves extra tipping. Can't remember her name but she really took care of us. The crab legs were large and not over steamed. Everything tasted fresh. Will go back again and tell others to as well.

I remember coming here as a child, so while on a road trip my family stopped for a quick lunch. Captain Billy's has a laid back, beach warf atmosphere and is located right on the water. We were seated right away inside, however there was a wait if we wanted to sit outdoors.

My husband and I both ordered the Haddock basket with fries and a side of potato salad. Everything was fantastic. The fish is battered with Yuengling beer and the fries were super thin and perfectly crispy. The potato salad was great too!

We were there for a late lunch, which wasn't too busy, but I'm sure the crowds pick up quite a bit towards dinner time.

My husband, daughter and I ate here this weekend. It was slow for a Sarurday night. We waited 10 minutes for anyone to stop by, acknowledge us and take our drink orders. Our waitress took our drink orders, appetizer orders and main course all at the same time but wanted to know if it was ok if things didn't come out in order. Hmmm...my husband and I ordered the cream of crab soup. It was luke warm and so thick it should have been labeled pudding. My daughters main course came out then her mozzarella sticks appetizer. Next my seafood platter came out. While the seafood was cooked perfectly be aware they apparently do not cook their seafood with any type of seasoning. My husband's fried seafood was mediocre. We had to wait on refills multiple times and twice we were brought the wrong refills. I received my salad that came with my meal in a to go box as it came out with our check! We were eager to visit Captain Billy's after our son recommended them however I think we'll stick with Captain John's.

Excellent meal with prompt and friendly service, family friend, plus bonus points for hospitality - would give them 6 starts if o could. We stopped lunch on a weekend and ordered broiled and fried entrees, both were exception. Overall well maintained and very clean with a great menu and very nice waterfront views. I am very glad we stopped here passing through town and will go out of our way to return!

Captain Billy's is usually a great place. We went there for Mothers Day and my wife's food came out raw. Pretty disappointing for her day. We actually took her food home and my wife cooked it for dinner. Much better when cooked. We will definitely be back even though our last experience was not the best.

Plague Doctor...,No restaurant lack occasional bad reviews. I was recently in a restaurant where the a/c was broken. It was a shocker that the first time I visited the a/c was broken; and would you believe a year later to the month, my 2nd visit, it's still broken?? ....but the cornbread french toast were on! absolutely delish.

See, we all have bad days and outcomes, and, as a result I would never discredit a low rating of someone's experience, even if I experienced something different on a different day.
