The most amazing theater company in Sacramento. Their plays make you really think about them after the show. I still mull over a play several weeks after I've seen it. I have recommended this theater company for years and everyone who goes there really loves it.

Small theatre (about 100 seats) that presents interesting plays. They are just finishing up Vietgone. In nice weather they have a patio available for patrons before the production and at intermission. Friendly, welcoming.

Its easily to be missed if you never been to this place. But I found it because of the adress 23 and j street. Outside doesn't look all glam but the show is what's important.
.
We circled around the neighborhood for parking. We finally found one on a Sunday evening.
.
So we went inside, we got our tickets from the front desk. Then we head on into the theater.
.
The show I watched was called viet gone, so the play has minimal props and has a good story line.
.
We had about 4 rows of seats maybe 30 to 40 seats per row and they aren't that spacy so you might rub legs and elbows with others.
.
Bring a coat because it might be chilly in the middle of the show or end of the show. It might be hot in the beginning because everyone is hustling and bustling trying to get to their seats and etc. I was warm the whole time because I get hot easily.
.
The sound system was ok nothing spectacular but put on a good show or play when music or noise is needed for the background.
.
There was intermission where we can grab snack and alcohol. I took a quick glance and the drinks were quite pricey like maybe 9 bucks for wine if I saw correctly but not too sure.
.
Restroom had 2 urinals and one inside sit down fyi if you need to go to the restroom so during intermission it was busy and line out the door for men and women.
.
Overall I had a good time. A new experience. A new place. And watched a good play on a Sunday evening is a fun event. Thanks for reading and let me know where you like to watch a play, show, and etc in what theater or location?

Our friends introduced us. We've enjoyed two shows this season. Park for $6 cash with exact amount across the street. Yes, the payment board is super old school, but they check. Arrive early for drinks and snacks. It gets cold in the theater, so if you are thin skinned like me, bring a light sweater. Great productions!!

Capital Stage is a small venue, so every seat is a great seat. There is wine, and I think beer, and snacks to purchase. A wonderful outside area to sit and chat with other patrons, and more than likely the owner or cast will be out there to answer any questions, or to just shoot the breeze before the show.

Tonight I saw Stephen Karam's "The Humans," my favorite of the 4 (or 5) plays I've seen there over the past year. Everything I've seen (The Wolves, Sweat, Vietgone, Between Riverside & Crazy,) has been consistently high quality. I think any seat in the house is good (it's a small house). Staff has always been helpful when there have been issues (like, once when the theatre AC was up too high they moderated it as soon as the problem was flagged). Great little playhouse.

A new addition for Austenphiles and can be done year round as Christmas is a peripheral subject. Very Upstairs Downstairs with an emphasis on standing up for what you deserve. Definitely recommend.

Sacramento and they suggested we go here. Excellent cboice. Got a bunch of appetizers and took advantage of the happy hour drinks.

"The Other Place" starring Ms. Parrett was one of the finest pieces of theater I've seen in Sacramento. The other actors were excellent as well. The subject matter is real and timely. Something anyone one of us may have to face in our lifetimes.

This is a small intimate theater; the audience is not far from the action. it s size and seating is very similar to the Pollock Stage at The Sacramento Theater Company. There is a comfortable outdoor seating area (with heaters for the cold weather) coffee, tea, wine, sweets and for meeting and conversation pre and post shows.
I have been thrilled by the plays I have seen. Sweat was the most moving, relevant, dynamic play I have EVER seen. Viet Gone was astonishing and eyeopening. The South Vietnamese thank our veterans for fighting with them; our involvement was not unnoticed or unappreciated. The current show, The Other Place, is riveting.
A smart, acerbic, scientist and mother is giving a sales presentation on a drug she developed against dementia. In the audience she is distracted by a woman in a yellow bikini. As it s an all male audience, she comments that she s not the only one distracted.
As the play continues we learn her daughter married her much older research assistant. They have two children. She is arranging a family visit to the beach house she owns with her husband. She believes her oncologist husband is having an affair and is going to divorce her.
We then learn the daughter ran away and was killed; the research assistant husband committed suicide years ago; there are no grandchildren; the beach house was sold and her husband is not having an affair. What is going on? It s a conundrum and the solution is in the play. We, the audience must sift the conflicting information to arrive at the truth. It is well worth seeing.

This little theater is performing some of the nation's best plays (Pulitzer Prize nominated and wining). The cast and production quality is professional, yet very intimate. Definitely one is Sacramento's best kept secrets!

I love going to Capital Stage. The layout of the lobby is very nice. You can sit inside or outside on the patio. They have a lot of different sodas, wine and beer. Also, they have a great variety of snacks.
The layout of the theatre is awesome!!!! The plays and actors are top notch!!!! The ticket prices are very fair. Definitely recommend them. You won't be disappointed!!!!

Delightful, fast-paced, well acted. This is a wonderful Christmas play to be enjoyed by all but particularly by Jane Austen fans with its references to Pride and Prejudice. Amusing, light entertainment.

High quality performance is a cozy venue. We had the pleasure of being able to see Christmas at the Wickhams due to extended performance dates. What a pleasure. Our family visiting from Boston thoroughly enjoyed the play as well! We are looking forward to returning in the future.

First play at Capital Stage for our anniversary. This is a very intimate experience! There are only 3-4 rows of seats and the stage comes right up to the front row.

It was a neat experience since you can see the facial expressions of the actors and the acting was very entertaining.

Superb play. I told the director that it passed my criteria for a great play. He asked me what my criteria were, and I replied that it brought tears to my eyes. Tonight was a dress rehearsal and it was flawless. Go see it.
