I had not read other reviews on here until now, but have to say I agree with those who found the service awful. A business colleague suggested going here. I can't say that Can Can, which purports to have a French flavor, has or doesn't have French cuisine down, but they do have the stereotyped French attitude down: Rude. Arrived 11:15 a.m. for lunch. Was informed we could sit but it would be 15 minutes before we could order from lunch menu. Okay, I get that, but the way they said it was rude. We did get offered water right away from first waiter, but not the ice we requested. Okay, a little too French; this is in Virginia. Requested again. Ignored. Finally, on 3rd request, we were brought one glass of ice to share. I requested to substitute spinach and garlic side for frites. On the ala carte sides menu, Frites were $4 and Spinach and Garlic was $5. My upcharge wasn't $1 but $2.50! Furthermore, the spinach had the stems left on. LOTS of stems. Chewy and prone to get caught and stuck. Inedible because of that. The 3rd waiter was far better on service, but he couldn't make up for the rest and he didn't know how to react when he asked about the spinach and I gave a polite but candid answer. Normally, I would be willing to give it a second try, but after reading several similar reviews on here, I think not.

Delicious French cuisine served in American sized portions. The Lamb Merguez sandwich with carmelized onions was insanely good. Started the meal with the cheese platter which was good but had substituted a blue cheese for the advertised Roquefort (I m a stickler about my French cheeses). Finished the meal with a fine little espresso. My wife enjoyed the massive slice of goat cheese & spinach quiche. My son s Croque Madame was the size of a madame s head.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. 30 minute wait, but spent time in Chocolate shop just down the plaza. Great menu, with neat specials. Everything was delicious. Service was stellar. Thank you Gale!

This place is over rated. It is by far the most aesthetically pleasing restaurant on Cary, but that is where it ends. Charcuterie is ok, food is terrible, service is pretentious , slow, and rude. It's an okay place to stop and have a glass of wine.

The food is good with good sized portions. The reason for 3 stars instead of more is that this is the second time I've been here, and both times the waiters that served us made a statement about what I ordered being a large portion, and perhaps I should share with the person I was with. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. Neither of us are tiny or overweight, just average. It made both of us feel very self conscious. And the sandwich that I ordered wasn't really that large, so it really seemed unwarranted. Other than that, good food.

I have been a long time customer here.... Sent friends and family here but this was my last visit. I just witnessed a "manager" with long flowing hair advise a African American waitress with braids to "put her hair up". Excuse me? I have seen many women working here with food and drink with long hair and have never seen one waitress with their hair up. In fact my husband had to send his food back a few months ago because a waitress' hair skimmed the plate while she was putting it on the table. I'm offended for the girl because she looked helpless. Everyone should be held to the same standard. Please advise all your staff to have tidy hair instead of making a new rule in the middle of service. I don't want an upset person serving my food.

Visited Can Can with my wife and her sisters. Had the seafood carbonara which was wonderful. Got a nice French Bordeaux and did dessert. The restaurant maintains its charm as it has over the 5 years we have been visiting. Prices remain reasonable and the service is excellent.

Came here after a Thai massage, elbowed in the back for an hour I don't suggest it, and tried a few dishes to recoup. Everything was pretty good. I thought Mac n cheese could have been thicker and better. Fried oysters were delicious. Onion soup seemed like it came from another planet the way it looked, but get some! The sandwich was well put together but dipping sauce lacked flavor. Fries are good but could be thicker? Excellent service. Really diversified staff. Neat place. My sister likes their early breakfast. It's fancy. Slightly dress up? Last, fresh bread was very good.

Review submitted by Annemarie Lee on 4/18/2019. My husband and I went to Can Can Brasserie on a beautiful morning in late March. He got a fragle with a latte and I got egg whites, bacon & avocado over a bed of greens along with an awesome Americano. Everything was incredible, but I have to say the atmosphere might be the best part of the whole experience. The decor is gorgeous with huge windows that allow in a ton of natural light & although a lot of people were also there, we had no trouble finding a seat, as the space is pretty big. We were able to walk there, but if you're lucky enough to find a spot there is a parking lot right next to Can Can. Regardless of how far you have to walk, though, this place is worth the trip!

From the atmosphere, the food and service - everything was exceptional. We're a hard lot to please (ex-restaurant professionals), but Stephen was the perfect server. We came in on July 4th, and we ate so many appetizers, that we had no room for dinner. That was my only regret. I really want to come back for the skate wing and boeuf bourgignon. There's no classic french brasseries left in Baltimore, so I'll have to come to Carytown again to have your great food! !! Well done!!!

Always love Can Can. Obviously make a reservation on the busy days - go for the decor, stay for a phenomenal meal and dining experience. Good for just popping in for a coffee, or a drink, or a pastry... or sitting down for the whole shebang.

we were surprised. numerous people recommended this place. we will never go back. my wife has celiac. we told the server right away and he responded that she could have a salad. any decent restaurant can make almost any dish gluten free.
my wife ordered steak, no fries. it came covered with fries cooked in gluten oil. we sent it back. in the meantime, my food got cold while we waited for her food.
we ordered gluten free breadless cholate cake that came covered with gluten crumbs. my wife are a mouthful by mistake. she had a gluten reaction for the rest of the night. when the bill came it had two steaks, the one she sent back and the one she ate. I went to the manager. she removed both steaks but the evening was ruined.

A friend had recommended Can Can Brasserie. Since we were in Carytown for the day, we decided to have a late lunch at Can Can Brassiere. Our server Bucc was friendly, polite, and attentive.

My boyfriend had a beer while I had the Coconut Matcha Lemonade. It was sweet, bubbly, and quite refreshing.

We started our meal with a cup of Onion Soup Gratinee, which consisted of sweet and savory beef broth, onions, baguette, and melted gruyere. It was so delicious I left no trace of it (and that includes the melted cheese around the cup).

My boyfriend had a Cheeseburger topped with Gruyere Cheese and served with Frites. The cheeseburger was such a huge portion, he said he didn't need dinner LOL The frites were fresh and crispy and came with ketchup.

There were so many items on the menu that I wanted to try. I ended up getting the Quiche Du Jour, which consisted of lobster, bacon, and gruyere cheese quiche. It was serves with baby greens and shallots tossed in a champagne vinaigrette. The quiche was tall and wide and I could not finish it. As for the salad, I would have preferred pickled shallots over diced raw shallots or onions.

As always, this place is the premier restaurant in Carytown, and in all of Richmond. Their chefs are a step above. When you are there it is not just a restaurant, it is an experience. Worth every penny.

Always an enjoyable experience! The food is generally very good with a decent variety. Some items can be a bit rich. There are also many types of interesting salads. Can Can has specials that are the same for each day of the week though they regularly will change them. Sometimes, they may run out of that day's special by late in the evening. The atmosphere is bright and festive. The front windows are often open in nice weather. Can be a bit loud near the bar. I definitely recommend Can Can for a nice dinner or get together with friends.

I have been here a couple times, so trust me when I say the service, unless you're spending about 50 dollars on drinks alone, is awful. They completely ignore you if you're not drinking. This goes for whether you are at the bar or at a table. I went there for brunch today hoping that maybe things have changed. I was wrong. I used to love their hangar steak sandwich, which is a little pricey, because the portion used to be big enough for some leftovers afterward. Well, I ordered the sandwich. It had two thin slices of hangar steak, half of which was PURE fat, barely any arugula or aioli, which really bothered me. I paid 14 dollars for a sandwich that was mostly fat. I realize that hangar isn't exactly a lean cut of meat, but come ON. If you want good food, there are WAY better places in Richmond.

How great to have a Parisian bistro in Richmond! Have been coming here several years now and the setting never fails to enchant. Sometimes the food is a little too salty for my taste, but the homemade ice cream flavors are wonderful, as are their baked-on-site pastries and breads. The best part is that the service is unfailingly considerate and friendly. Many other Richmond restaurants (Edo's Squid comes to mind) could take a lesson in that regard.

A French-style venue with a menu of dishes that are the result of an American style from the side and that of French cuisine. Staff very helpful and kind even if the place is very busy especially on weekends the prices are in the norm. But the dishes are really good and served in a delicious way. So I this local for anyone wishing to stop in the downtown area of Richmond.

We have been to Can Can Brasserie several times, and each time we have had delicious food in a lovely, charming atmosphere. Somehow our tables have always felt private and secluded even when the restaurant was full--which it always seems to be! Obviously the word is out that the chefs are splendid and the waiters are sweet-natured and gracious, as well as knowledgeable. The wine list is also selective, but it includes good wines at a reasonable price. (They have a very nice grenache syrah.) We have greatly enjoyed all of our meals, from abalone steak to hamburgers with pommes frites. We will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary at Can Can tonight!

Some of the best hand crafted cocktails in Richmond. Good lunch bar specials on oysters and appetizers... All of which are very very good... Note: This is my favorite place to go for appetizers. ... Going for breakfast, bar lunch, and happy hour you'll find great food at great prices. Going for dinner will be expensive, but it is very good French cuisine. It's the only place I would go for beef tartare. They have their own bakery... Very friendly attentive staff. Good coffee in the mornings.

Can Can has great reviews and people I've spoken to in person recommended it, but this restaurant fails in many ways.
Upon walking in there's a "fancy" visual vibe but it's quickly offset by the smell of an old diner that excels in reheating frozen foods. We were sat quickly (with a reservation) but the waitress didn't even introduce herself before going straight into the night's specials to which she highly recommended but didn't actually know what a handful of the items were. Later on she made several off-putting jokes about trying to get more tips, so that's always a plus.
The drinks available here are in a wide variety and the few I ordered I immediately sent back as they were all bottom-shelf syrups that they should be embarrassed to even offer. It wasn't just me either, the table next to me sent back two of their drinks as well.
The foods were in the same boat; the choices sounded great but they simply failed in flavor and combination. They pair things on a single plate that are good individually but when put together make the dish sub-par. Soups, appetizers, entrees, and even desserts - each had potential and none succeeded in achieving it. And yet the bill at the end of the night was as if I was dining in an upscale NYC restaurant.
Definitely will not be visiting Can Can again.

I want to share experience my about this restaura...

I want to share experience my about this restaurant called the "Can Can." My sister was celebrating a milestone birthday and this was the place of her choice. We made reservations and arrived 20 minutes before the scheduled time to make sure we were on time. I had no problem waiting but finally when we were seated it took the server about 5-10 mins to approach the table. Then about 15 mins later she came back and took the order. There was no information that was offered about the menu or what the "Can Can" is known for. She took our order and never asked or offered any drinks of any kind to upsell her ticket. The menu "that we received" didn't offer a lot of choices but looking at other tables what I read on the menu wasn't offered on mine. The server took 40 mins to bring out our order and in that timeframe only bought refills of water to the table. She never explained that it would be a while before the food arrived and seemed kind of put off that she had to wait on us. I assure you that I am not picky and we try a different RVA restaurant monthly and by far the food and service was the WORST of all time this year! I cannot say if I were a different race if the service would have been better but it sure as hell felt that way. I even called to report our experience the next day and the manager by the name of Andrew didn't ask any specifics about our table until I mentioned to him that it seems he has had a nonchalant attitude as well. He stated that he knew exactly who we were because of the size of our party of 13, (the only black folk) and will speak with the server and kitchen manager to get their side of the story and call back to see if there would be anything that he could do for us as this wasn't brought to his attention "the day of the incident." I explained that we didn't want to ruin her birthday by complaining and just wanted to pay the tab to get out of there asap. It had already took long enough to be seated, order and get the food that was so OVERLY priced and tasteless. As far as I am concerned I will never recommend this place to anyone. The "Can Can" should be called the "Trash Can!"

My husband and I treated ourselves to lunch at Can Can today. We had a bowl of onion soup which is the best in the city. It came with wonderful slices of bread. Truly worth our trip down to Cary Town. Our waitress was Simi, and she was fantastic...attentive, helpful, friendly...efficient. All of the above and more. Thank you Simi!

We were visiting from out of town and were referred to this restaurant for lunch. Parking on Friday afternoon was not fun and our party of five stood around for 30 minutes before a table was ready. However, it was well worth the wait.

Everyone enjoyed their meals, including quiche du jour (lobster), chicken sandwich, fish du jour (trout), and bouillabaisse. It was my first time tasting the fish stew. The broth was rich and full of various seafood. It was thoroughly fantastic. My dinner companion who also ordered bouillabaisse has lived in France for many years and attested to the fact that it was authentic and delicious.

Service was more than adequate for this level of establishment.

It's Cary Town, Jake.

It's Cary Town, Jake.

If you are in the mood to spend a lot of money to dine in a trendy atmosphere where you can see and be seen, this is your place.

The food is good enough that if your date is good-looking, you may even forget about the prices for a couple minutes.

The best part of this Parisian experience is there are no Parisians there. Especially rude waiters. But there's lots of cute Richmond youth schlepping food trays. And your chances are way better than 50/50 that they didn't spit in your food.

That presumes you were able to find a parking space. Good luck with that. The $250 towing charge - cash only - will easily make you forget the cost of your dinner.

The family and I went on a little vacation to Richmond, VA. After arriving early at hte Richmond Intl Airport, we decided to find a place close to our hotel for a quick breakfast.

We found the Can Can on the GPS POI list and decided to go there. We didn't get much, but the muffins, scones and coffee were great!

Being from the hectic city and from the north, it was a nice change of pace to be down south, slow down a little and relax.

The place was populated with the kind of people you would expect. Studying college students and stay at home moms out the kids and their girlfriends.
