This hotel is ok. I can't saying anything more enthusiastic than that. Its best feature, is the location. You are right in the hear of Dublin and a 10-30min walk to most attractions. But you are just a little outside the busiest areas of the city, so a tiny less hustle and bustle. There is a Tesco express across the street, so handy! And quite a few restaurants and take out places right outside. There is both a bus stop (bus will go to the airport) and Tram stop right outside. I also like the set up of the building so that many rooms are facing a quiet commercial building or a inner courtyard. We found our room to be pretty quiet.
But there are some things about the hotel that I was less than impressed with. Our room was really small. We have a baby and with the three of us, it was so tight. The furniture in the room is poorly chosen, its bulky and in the way. There is not enough desk area or luggage stands to put out your belongings. My mattress was terrible. It was one of those beds that slopes, so you end up always leaning towards one direction. I ended up with sore leg muscles overnight from the leaning. The room gets too warm! This is even with the radiator off and the window open. The bathroom is also pretty small. I just felt very cramped in there.
I thought to use the lounge area downstairs to stretch out. But its under renovation and does not look inviting. I found the food to be pricey and not particularly enticing. I like the fitness area (which is why we picked this hotel as there were not many hotels in Dublin with a gym). I saw the pool and it is big. But I never got a chance to go in. Which leads me to one of my bigger disappointments with the hotel-the service. I did not find it friendly or helpful. I had a particularly negative experience at the pool. We had planned to take our baby to the pool and when I asked the staff outside the pool if this was ok, I got a rather rude response that no children are allowed after 7pm. Its not the policy that bothered me, rather the way I was spoken to. I felt incredibly judged for having a child and wanting to bring them to a pool. There was another woman there, a guest, who then proceeded to lecture me on bringing my child to a pool and that it was impolite for other guests? I was shocked by the whole conversation and went from being excited to have my baby try out the water for the first time in his life, to feeling completely unwelcome by this hotel. After that experience, I just wanted to leave. I did not consider this hotel to be baby friendly by any means. Funny enough the next hotel we stayed at also had a pool and when I asked them about bringing my baby, they were so welcoming! They got him a little towel and said we could come by anytime of the day, even suggesting what times were less busy.
