Gede being a very good place with the biggest palace in East Africa its a side based on excavation which lies on a good number of acres although only 14acres were excavated where one can access and learn about the history on the residents who lived there centuries ago.... the site has different attractions as follows ; snake park, ruins, Nature walk and butterfly farm, the Giriama dance, at the gate are sold wrist bands as souvenirs this is done by self employed young men who are tryng to make ends meet. What are you waiting.....go have fun and kindly remember to promote the talented man bye... have fun

Nice historical site, though something needs to be done about renovation. The tree house was one catchy place ... Seems to have a nice restaurant space but the place has been abandoned.
The place has rich history. I was amazed by the tree that grew on a the wall n it's been said to be centuries old. It was nice seeing the old structures still standing
If you are in watamu you cannot miss the Ruins of Gede! Equipped with bananas for the monkeys though!
This place is really cool and has a lot of untapped potential. The ruins are beautiful. They're not done clearing the outer walls and mosques. The snake farm is neat, but needs a little updating and hands on with the non venomous snakes. The butterfly farm left a lot to be desired... The wild monkeys you feed peanuts to were the highlight of our trip in Kenya!! We loved those monkeys! They were really fun to interact and play with.
well for a visitor to the coast you cant afford to miss this, this was once a town during the 18th century when the arabs settled here remiscence of the time. Rates are pocket friendly was here in 2011 breathtaking place also you can hike within the canopy
Captivating history of civilized settlement that begun in the 12th century well retold in our times.

Very historical, the guys who lived those years must have been genius. A temperature regulation system. Water conveyor.
Good historical site. Can do with a little more touch up
It was adventurous and exciting place to be with nature's beauty
Nice place to know the war between Oman rulers n the portguese on the east African coast, good for lovers of history
Great historical place! There is beauty and history in these ruins dated all the way back to the 12th century.
I could picture the Sultan with his court of advisers, see the children running to the Masjid (Islamic place of prayer), hear the shouts of the merchants in the market place, vision the beauty and listen closely enough and you can hear the call to prayer echoing through the town.
Lots of history to learn you can have a tour guide if you want but not a must
Very beautiful. Especially the monkeys who come to look for food (bananas, etc.).
Bello also the village with the ruins still well kept. A jump in other times. We see how we lived in a Muslim village between the court, the hospital, among the rich and the poor. Nestled in the forest and among the baobabs.
Very polite and informative guides. Marvelous experience and immersion in history. You gain a wonderful appreciation for culture and traditions. Very eye opening as to our roots and history
