Cute and compact airport is very touristy from one place, but it is a comfortable and friendly sightseeing experience. Living in a small town should be very comfortable.
There is a green light next to the rainbow road at the exit. Good avant-garde like star wars

YYC airport is a great airport. Very family friendly with various kids areas to keep the kids busy while waiting for your flights. The luggage carts are free to use. One of my favorite airports in US/Canada, except for the one flaw below.

I would give this airport a 5-star if it weren't for the fact that when you go through US customs leaving Calgary to US, you HAVE to go through a store to get to the terminal like one of the reviewer already mentioned (the reviewer who was allergic to perfumes).
Unlike the that reviewer, I'm not allergic to the displayed perfumes, but I did find it very confusing and was annoyed after the fact.
I went through customs like usual, scanned passport and printed custom declaration at the machines, then went to see a US agent. After speaking to a US agent, I was led up an escalator. Upon arriving at the top of the escalator, I found myself inside a store and immediately thought I had taken the wrong turn. So I stopped at the top of the elevator and looked for ways to go back. There was a security man nearby who told me to keep moving forward. Still confused, I kept going forward in store. There was no marked path or anything, but I did eventual got out of the store and into the terminal feeling very confused.
It's obviously designed as a marketing ploy but who will buy anything if they are just confused? That store needs to be removed and the store space needs to be just an open landing into the terminal.

First time to travel. I'm confused on the sign 21 which pointing to the food court. Then i asked a white old female officer 4'11 ft. She kept on saying follow the sign twice with a rude tune. Hate that person.

West Jet flight 3208 (DL 7633) made the perfect landing around 8:20 AM on October 29th. The pilot kissed the tarmac so lightly that I, who sat next to the left landing gear, could not feel the contact; I only saw it as the light, snowy mist flew from the tires. When exiting the airplane, I smiled and thanked the crew member standing at the pilot's door for the perfect landing. So smooth and effortless it felt!!! We flew over snow-capped Rocky Mts. (See photos.)

Clean, well-maintained, open and airy feel. Large airport, with all of the amenities. All workers pleasant, including security staff. Although I didn't use the intra-terminal shuttles, a great addition for elderly / mobile-limited travellers. Only downfall: could use more power outlets / charging stations.

Nice airport but lacks some services. Long walk from international arrivals to go through Customs. No moving sidewalks. Lack of signage makes navigating around a little confusing but I got there eventually.Only Tim Hortons and Mac's convenience is open there after 9pm, so not much choice for food or drink.

Transportation to and from the airport sucks. Some buses throughout the day but no C-train [LRT] or rapid transit. After midnight, no buses--only taxis until morning. Good luck getting home when arriving on flights after 12.Probably about 40-60$ cab ride to downtown Calgary.

Nice clean space with lots of seating that is equipped with charging ports for phones, tablets and laptops.

Plenty of food choices and shopping.

Play spaces for kids to burn off some energy before / between flights. This is something most airports lack.

Update: as of Sept 2018 YYC airport has really cranked up the wifi speeds!

Airport is nice now and getting bigger. Biggest complaint is how much parking costs. What the heck is with the elimination of the half hour parking. People will just circle now and pollute more.

For a city of a million plus people this airport seems a bit provincial in some ways. In other ways it wants to be taken seriously. The terminal for USA bound flights is huge and cavernous, making it seem oddly calm and accentuates its emptiness.

Having said that, it's easy to get in and out of this airport and everything works smoothly.

It can be cold in Calgary even in early October. 50cm of snow when we arrived.

Definitely the best airport I've ever been in. Clean modern building. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable (essential when arriving late at night). Seating areas were very comfortable. Security a little slow but smooth.

Management apathetic to the state of the aging terminal and its employees. Parts often failing resulting in serious security breaches by stuck doors or broken biometrics.

Nearly all food served by HMS, a bottom lines company with no interest in its employees or training resulting in dozens of serious food safety violations on public record.

Parking was 30 minutes free, but with no grace. Construction or numerous facility generated delays resulted in expensive parking fees at the first
minute over. This is moot now with all free parking removed.

I ll change my review when YYC airport stops shipping LIVE HORSES TO JAPAN just for them to be SLAUGHTERED!!! It s very hyprocrital and disgusting for the bronze statue to be located at the airport when all they do is send them off in tiny shipment containers without food/water for up to 36 hours just to be killed. Don t you think? This airport is nothing but a hyprocrite!

I flew in and out of Calgary airport this past sum...

I flew in and out of Calgary airport this past summer, and both experiences were great. The airport itself is large, but very efficient in a way that is pleasing for consumers. Upon our arrival in Calgary, we went to pick up our baggage in the carousel. The arrivals area is clean and tidy, however, there were many flights being operated for one belt. For us, this number was six. This meant we had to wait about 30 minutes for our luggage, as about 500 people's luggage was being unloaded at one carousel. However, there were many amenities in the departures area! There were about 10 shops when I walked 2 minutes down the hall, and there are plenty of bathrooms as well.

Upon our departure from Calgary, we went to the check in desk. This is where the experience was a bit confusing, as every check in desk was automated, with the exception of the customer service desk, which has a considerably long line. We managed to get our luggage checked in, but with much struggle. The experience only got better from here! The security lines were at a minimum, even at peak travel times. The amenities for economy class ticketed passengers are quite vast, with many shops that serve a variety of purposes in the main terminal. There are even shuttles that drive around the airport, on their own private roads! This is the first airport that I have witnesses to install such. The gate areas have many plugs and comfortable seating. I would certainly travel through this airport again!

Security Check In Personnel have a very important ...

Security Check In Personnel have a very important job - To make travellers feel safe. The security check in staff at Calgary however manages to do exactly the opposite - intimidate the travellers. The staff isn't well trained to identify who may be a criminal/terrorist and who may just be an innocent traveller who forgot to drain water from their reusable water bottles. After I was done and waiting on the other end of security check in for my small backpack to cross, the security personnel came in and told me I had some water in my bottle... I requested her if it was possible for her to trash it since I had a big backpack on my back. She refused, saying it isn't her job to do that and there were no trash cans around and that would be a waste of time during her duty hours. So, I started collecting all my items that were taken out by her from my small backpack while she stood right there yelling at me to hurry up since she didn't have the time to wait for me . I requested her to keep my bottle aside and that I will go get it from the security - to which she refused saying she will escort me out to the security check in entrance and then let go ! The whole process is so archaic and inefficient and it was such a nightmare to go through just to drain some leftover water in a bottle.
