Cafe' Giovanni Review

We arrived with reservations at 7 pm on a Tuesday to a restaurant with only two other tables. We waited until 715pm to be greeted; we decided to step outside and grab a smoke. After going back in, we overheard the manager and our intended sever discussing our table..."table 19 smells like money". After the discussion, the manager visited our table and apologized for the now almost 30 minute duration to even greet us. It was appauling.

As the wife and I left, I let the manager know we were leaving and would not be spending our money here. His response was, "I don't blame you."

We ultimately ended up at "Bourbon House". Excellent service and food. Shame on you Cafe Giovanni.

Popped in for a drink with friends and had some really tasty cocktails. Scott the bartender has great mixing skills. He knows a lot about the history of some of the drinks they offer as well as boubon and wiskey.

Always a solid choice for dinner. Great food paired with a rotating seasonal menu keeps this place on the top of my list of restaurants to revisit.

Employees use racial slurs and management does nothing to correct it!

Fantastic Italian meets Creole restaurant. The prices for entrees range from $18 to $35. The food itself is outstanding, and well-presented. Service was outstanding. The waiters were friendly, constantly refilling our glasses without being asked, and checking up on us to see if we needed anything. There was a live piano and three opera singers the whole night. The restaurant was cozy, yet could seem a little loud at times.

We went here for Easter Brunch and had an amazing time! The food was delicious, the service was impeccable, and the chef even came out to check on us. Will definitely be going back soon!

Everything started off great, but the wait for the food took over an hour. People all around us were getting there food and we just sat. The waiter didn't really seen to care. When the food came, it was pretty good. Definitely overpriced.

I have had several nice meals in New Orleans, Bourbon House, Antoine's, Rib Room, to name a few and this has been by far the best experience. The atmosphere is amazing and our sever, Matthew, was hands down one of the best I've ever had. Well versed in every menu item and on top of all his tables

Wonderful staff, BEAUTIFUL opera singer, FANTASTIC food,atmosphere. Definitely a place to come experience whole in New Orleans.

I had high expectations for this place but the taster was a let down; even returned one plate. While voluminous the quality was lacking. Our server was pretty slow and under-informed on the menu as well. There's lots of good food in NOLA, don't waste your time here.

Neefed an Italian fix and this place just hit it out of the ballpark. My party of nine were well recieved and left rubbing their bellies as we walked back to the hotel. Kudo's to Chef LoCicero and his staff who were just awesome. Thanks for the great meal....

Silly place with lousy accustics and oversweet food.

Not as good as last year. Came here s year ago and had a different experience. While tonight's mall was very good it didn't compare to the meal a year so. The Brushetta was not nearly as good as last year, not as moist and didn't seem to have as much stuff on it. The pork ribeye was amazing tonight but it still didn't quite compare to the pork ribeye a year ago. Overall it was good. ... just not as good. Will possibly go back and perhaps not have as high of an expectation.

At first I was kind of iffy on this place because I had not heard of it but by the end of the meal I was on the CG bandwagon. Loved the food. Every appetizer we tried was amazing and all of the entrees were fantastic. Loved the crispy duck entree and the veal was delicious. Would absolutely go back.

Food was to expensive for the price. Shanda is amazing. She is the best server in there.

Fantastic experience from the moment I walked in the door. The greeter was welcoming, the server was great to talk with and I was treated very well. Not to mention the food was fantastic. I also got to meet the chef. He was both pleasant to me and I appreciate how well he interacted with the staff and appreciated both them and the customers satisfaction. I will go back.

I was quite disappointed in the experience. My girlfriend made reservations 2 weeks in advance and we arrived 10 minutes early. The restaurant was half full, at best, and the maitre d had us wait well after our reservation. The bartender was quite kind and was apologetic. Once we were shown to our table we had to wait a good 10 - 15 minutes till our waiter showed up, but there was no gretting, no welcome, it felt like he was not going to say a word unless you spoke to him. Quite awkward. I got a tea, which was awful, and a coke, with no refills. My girlfriend and I made our order at an Italian restaurant of a single meatball for an appetizer, italian salad, and entree. The meatball was mediocre, at best. It was luke warm. Our entree arrived about 25 - 40 minutes later with our bread, which was 2 small cresson rolls, and no salad. We brought it up to the waiter, he apologized and said the kitchen was slammed (I counted 12 tables) and offered us free desert which was good. The given reason for 2 stars instead of one.

Overall, the restaurant severely lacks a friendly staff. The mediocre food is overpriced, in my opinion. The veal was hallow which led me to believe it was mircowaved. The comped desert, my girlfriend said, was delicious.

Sadly, I will not return.

My wife and I stayed in New Orleans to celebrate our 11 year anniversary. We found Giovanni's on Google and went to their website. Their website does not do the restaurant justice. The atmosphere was filled with the smells of savory Italian food and sounds of beautiful operatic vocals. The romantic lighting was a great place to fall in love again. We had the Spicy Caprese Seafood Plate for a delicious appetizer with our cocktails. We dined on the rich Shrimp Dukie as an entree. Of course, we saved just enough room for dessert as we split a tiramisu. I am a huge fan of tiramisu and such a critic. The tiramisu was the weakest point of our meal. I prefer the lady fingers to be a little more soaked in coffee - rather than lightly soaked. I like them to be very moist. All in all it was a fantastic meal with very polite service. I recommend it to everyone now!

Wonderful place to eat. Best food and fantastic Chef Duke.

This place has special history with me and my wife. Sad to see that it has now closed. It will always be a good memory for us.

Great meal experience with unique live entertainment on wed, thursday, friday

The food was delicious and the entertainment was fabulous! Top quality live music with high class musicians. I had a seafood salad with avocado over mixed greens. It was great! Highly recommend the Creme Brule!

Absolutely amazing food! The waiter Matthew was also phenomenal make sure you ask for him and tip well :) because his suggestions, customer service and knowledge are worth the few extra bucks!

The crab chowder was good but it did not justify the cost. I really liked the atmosphere

Italian food, as close to Rome as you can get in New Orleans. Try the oysters, a delicious and unique presentation. The bruscetta is another must. Friendly staff and great service. Amply stocked bar. Prices average. Chef Duke frequently comes around to talk. Opera singers Wednesday-Friday add to the experience.

Don't wait until the last day of your vacation to eat here. It's not creole, but it is the best food I've had in New Orleans.

Absolutely delightful. Veal marsala and blackened prime rib was perfectly cooked. Quaint restaurant that was very accommodating to my toddler. Was a wonderful eating experience.

Had my Mother's Day lunch here. The food and service were excellent. Definitely plan on returning to this restaurant on my next New Orleans trip.

The food took so long to come out. The service was ok, food was not worth the price. But by the time it came out I really did care how the food was I was so hungry. If they lower the prices it might get better ratings. I will not be coming back here. I wouldn't recommend this to my friends. This is a place for tourist that want to get ripped off

Why are people singing while I'm trying to eat my dinner?!? Piano music was nice but the singing was so loud my dinner companions and I had to yell to talk over the table. Food good but service was SLOW!!!

Tried this place for Coolinary. Very pleased with the food, and the service was excellent.
