Magnificent we left on foot from the center of Grenoble to climb and join the fort. From the top a magnificent view at practically 360 degrees, there are a few people, but you cannot be disappointed with the panorama, which embellishes the look on this charming city.

A beautiful place to visit. The panoramas are incredible. The snowy mountains above the city is a real spectacle. I have visited it in the month of Easter and there are many people, but you can see it perfectly. I liked that you can get on the cable car with your pet paying 2 euros just for him. Today the restaurant was closed.

Spectacular views of the entire city, it is highly recommended to visit it if you are in Grenoble, both on foot (about 3 KM) and by cable car. There is also an adventure park that runs inside and outside the Bastille, as well as the museum of mountain troops (highly recommended) and the museum of contemporary art. There is also a restaurant with great views.

We went up to Bastille with friends from the north. We could not take the eggs. Repair of the material. So we got in a car. Arrival on the site we were amazed of the sight on Grenoble, belledonne, and the vercors and the massif of the oisans. Being a native of Grenoble and growing up in this city, every time I come to Grenoble I can only be amazed at my mountains and my city. Our friends were captivated by our visit. You tourists take the time to apreciate my city.

Awesome! You must do a hike upto the Telepherique and you will a lot more than just the overview of the city. Also, take a step further and go the caves up which is probably less than a mile but definitely worth going there.

Beautiful view of Grenoble, even more spectacular by taking the cable car. Many paths to make beautiful walks go there, with those who dare a staircase dug into the rock, with 80m of vertical drop in the dark!

Despite bad weather, we dared a visit to Grenoble. And we were rewarded.
The gondolas were the first experience ... Round and equipped with folding seats ...
They offer a nice first view of the city.
The Philippeville car park is a 2-minute walk from the valley station.
There are several ways to spend the day on the Bastille:

- Hikes
- museum
- climbing park
- good food

Quite cool you can walk up there with a pram, but only the very top is not reachable with our big pram. There is a flight of stairs, what a shame! Beautiful combination of snow and nature!

Grenoble s city centre is concentrated on the sout...

Grenoble s city centre is concentrated on the south edge of the swift meandering River Isere. Exactly facing the old centre but on the north side of the river looms the hillside fortifications of La Bastille, a grand 16th-century military stronghold complete with a donjon, an ammunition depot and several scattered underground hide-outs.
Crossing pedestrianized Pont St-Laurent from the old centre deposits you on Place de la Cimaise, a small secluded square that offers a fair share of atmospheric eateries. An unmarked narrow passageway nestled at the foot of the hill right behind Place de la Cimaise is the start of a stiff one-hour uphill climb that leads to Fort de la Bastille. The winding walkway is unsuitable for those who lack adrenaline because the paths are rough, stony and in places, swampy and watery. The only relief are the benches that fill in several recesses along the way. As one ventures further uphill, the views over the city of Grenoble and the surrounding mountains become more spectacular.
To avoid walking up to the fort, one can hop aboard the Telepherique Grenoble Bastille from the lower station on Quai Stephane Jay. Riding the all-glass egg-shaped pods of the telepherique is an unforgettable spell of amusement that alas... lasts only 10 minutes.
The architecture of the fort is nothing special or unusual but for the sheer size of the building, the fort is worth a visit. Temporary exhibitions, often interactive are held inside.
Further up behind the fort, more passageways lead to the Centre d Art Bastille and the Musee Troupes de Montagne. The surrounding trails in the forest continue to the Park Regional de Chartreuse.
