I love BYU but the bookstore has never had good prices. I liked it better before it had much more in it than the huge selection BYU apparel. I have never had bad service there. Recently one of the cute little coeds working the registers mistook me for a general authority: hilarious!
Terrible service. Won t let me return a shirt even with the receipt. $30 Shirt that doesn t fit well that I can t return. Waste of $30.
Great customer service, super postie friendly atmosphere. Lots of selection and fun gofts. Go down stairs and score some deals and deep discounts on byu fan clothing and accessories. I love BYU and this place has great memories for me.
Extremely disappointing experience trying to buy a textbook. I ordered a textbook online, but it was backordered, so I waited for two weeks, but received no updates about my order. I called twice to ask if there were any updates, but the customer service people couldn't provide any. I finally called to tell them to cancel my order, because for some reason you can't cancel orders on the website, so they gave me a separate BYU online number to call in order to do that. I waited for 35 minutes on the phone and was first in the queue the entire time, but no one picked up the phone. So I walked over to the bookstore, waited in line at the customer service desk, and finally talked to someone and they cancelled my order. When I asked about waiting on the phone with no answer, the employee said "oh yeah, it's this phone right here..." At least in their textbook and customer service departments, they are extremely disorganized.
Love this place. Great store with the best new cougar products.
I love coming here. The staff is great! Go Cougars
Great service with very friendly employees. This bookstore has everything one could need or want. We love visiting this store when we are in town.
Very large selection of books! Bigger than most bookstores!
Overpriced everything. Try to avoid this place unless you absolutely have to. Get your textbooks anywhere else.
Everyone talks about how convenient it is to pickup your textbooks here: it's like someone else shops for you!
Well, this works really well. Unless you didn't pick those books up and it's charged to your student account regardless.
I'd accidentally double ordered a book, so I returned one. Then I decided to drop the class, and therefore I did not pick up the second order.
A random charge showed up on my account, I spoke with a bookstore employee via email. I shared what had happened, and I never received another reply after that.
Now I have a hold on my account from an erroneous charge.
Beware of the BYU Bookstore. Buy your books from a reputable source like Amazon. They won't steal your money.
Seems like they never have enough of the merchandise needed for students to take classes. Especially Spring/Summer terms. EVERY time, they do not have the texts available for the classes I've registered for, so I have no choice but to go online and order the books and with the rate of speed that classes go on the term schedule, I get way behind right from the get go. There has to be a better way! Also required materials, like the HP financial calculator required for business classes should be available in the bookstore. It seems incompetent when all I get are excuses instead of books. The bookstore should know exactly how many students are taking the classes and what materials they need so they are available and if they would sell them at prices competitive with Amazon, etc. we would not have a reason to go online instead of using the BYU bookstore. The bookstore could at least make a little profit off the books instead of nothing at all that way.
The employees are nice but I've never seen a more poorly managed online order pickup service. They email you that your order is ready but that doesn't mean that your order is actually ready, just that it's in a bag getting ready to be sent upstairs to to be picked up (so I was told by an employee). So I'd recommend you wait a couple hours at least after you get that email. Oh also, my order never arrived, it was a shirt that they sold more of then they actually made. Check out Walmart my friends, they have BYU apparel for much cheaper.
The staff here have been really helpful when I'm looking for extremely specific objects. They're really friendly.
The BYU store offers a good variety of great BYU stuff, and textbooks, other books, also art and religious stuff downstairs, and candy. I still call it the BYU Bookstore; I still feel like that's a better name and had a lot of name recognition when they changed it. They're constantly rebranding themselves and remodeling the store, repeatedly. So long live the BYU Bookstore. They have some random fun props to look at on the inside too (a lego Brigham Young Academy, a racing car...)
Ordered a BYU shirt online for my spouse and got an email saying I d get a tracking number within 24 hours, but I never did. I had to email them asking for one (which they provided promptly). We love the shirt, but within a few wears, there s already a hole in the sleeve.
It's a pretty place but I don't buy anything here besides school supplies and garments (there's an LDS clothing distribution center in the basement) unless I have to. All BYU themed merchandise costs probably three times as much as you'd expect it to. Sometimes they have decent prices on school supplies but I'd double check with Amazon or other stores anyway. There is a small Apple store on the upper floor so that's fun. It's conveniently located in the WSC and I take shortcuts through it sometimes. The fudge is good but not to die for.
Professor's will tell you themselves that there are much better places to get textbooks. The fudge is unbeatable though...
Quality stuff and good service. I ve never had a bad experience there.
If you are going to class and working, though, good luck making it within store hours. Why a university store would close at 6 PM amazes me. I have classes that keep me out later than that, and have had to go weeks without textbooks because I can t find a time to pick them up.
BYU Bookstore has a nice staff, but they're stretched too thin. Prices are too high, and textbooks are a joke. They rotate their inventory every semester and even though they *say* they buy back books, that's assuming that the book is in better shape than you found it, that you're one of the first in line, and that they are stocking it for next semester, which they probably aren't. Very expensive. Convenient? Sure, but it's an *awful* high, un-marked convenience fee.
And I see there is a troll in our midst, rating the "poor to fair" reviews as un-helpful, and the good reviews as helpful. Poor experiences are frankly more common than good ones. I've had good experiences at the bookstore, but more often than not, I've left cringing at the price I paid. For instance, try to find a notebook there for less than $1.50.
Great selection of Nike apparel. Its a tad pricey but they did a great job on this place.
If you need byu gear this is the place. It's more than what I want to pay for something things but it has what a true cougar needs.
The BYU Bookstore is selling trinkets shaped in the likeness of weapons of war into which consecrated oil symbolizing the Savior's atonement is stored in.
This is repulsive. Weapons of war have no place in priesthood ordinances. This vial, shaped like a bullet and casing is not about utility, it is designed to make a political statement.
People should be free to spend their gold and silver in buying items like this, symbolizing violence, armies and navies, blood and terror, but keep it out of the Church-owned BYU Bookstore.
The store was a mess today and has been so for a few months now. poor communication appears to be the case lately., Ive alway paid for my text book downstairs in the twilight zone because I like to grab a snack/drink and beat the lines if I can. But today without warning or any signage the clerk refused to serve me. I had to walk all the way back up to the 3rd floor and purchase the book there. Please put signs up informing us that you are changing procedures so as not to waste my time please.
Values don't seem to be in line with the school it's representing. Wouldn't let me return something three hours after I bought it, unopened, which I was misled into buying. A policy is a policy but a lack of understanding or care is not in harmony with BYUs stated values.
Looks really good since we became a Nike Elite school. The renovations make it look much better and they got rid of all the lesser-quality competitors' clothes. The most expensive place on earth to buy textbooks.
I have used the BYU store 20+ times since beginning at BYU as a freshman. It is inefficiently run and the books are overpriced. I have never found a book sold somewhere else that was more expensive than at the BYU store. The customer service representatives are kind and try to be helpful, but things are just not run very well.
For example, I order a book online. It says it's in stock. I think "great, save myself some time. I pay online, and they have it ready, I just pick it up and walk out."
Instead, I show up, and they say "oh, it has to be ordered." I walk 20 feet to the shelf, and there is my book in stock. I say "okay, I've already paid for this, can I go?" And they say "no, if you want this book, you have to pay for it, and then when the other book arrives, you will need to come back, physically pick it up, and then go to the returns desk and return the second copy." Seriously? Isn't the whole point of e-commerce to be more convenient? Instead of making things take EVEN longer and then have to buy something twice and then return it? Not well run.
Luckily an older manager/associate said "why don't we call the orders department and just have them cancel it" after realizing how redundant and inefficient it was to do what I just outlined. They figured it out, and now I'm praying that I don't get double-charged for this book.
Bottom-line is: if you can get your books somewhere else, get them somewhere else. The people are nice, but the prices aren't, and neither is the way they run the store.
I love it!! It has all you need.. (maybe it's a bit expensive but it's useful)
I like BYU but this place is expensive. All the employees are nice though.
great for souvenirs, candy, school supplies, last minute gifts, etc. Not the greatest prices, but it is convenient.
I ordered online to pick up in-store. After not hearing back about my order for multiple days, I called to check on my order. A grouchy employee rudely answered that they were backed up on hundreds of orders and couldn t deal with my concerns. Considering that they don t even have to deal with shipping, I am surprised that I am still waiting. Disappointed in the poor customer service and delayed fulfillment of my order. I would expect an apology from a respectable company.
So they have a monopoly on students because you need your books for class, but they wont give you your book list until a week before. If you can hold off on buying, try any internet site to get the same book for a fraction of the price. My senior year I tried to boycott the bookstore, and saved nearly $400 just buying used and online.
all of their prices are amazingly inflated. Id never buy there again if i didn't have to.
Bought some byu nike products from an email a couple months ago. Great prices on great products. Keep em coming!
Very impressive staff; Prompt, efficient and friendly. The quality of products are top notch.
I try not to buy my textbooks there anymore if I can help it. I bought a text book and tried to return it within twenty minutes of my purchase because I realized that I wanted to buy a kindle from the bookstore instead and they would not refund me my money. Apparently they stop giving any refunds for books about a week or so into the semester however they didn't tell me about this till I tried to get a refund. I even talked to the head of the bookstore for about a half hour and he would still not refund my money or give me in store credit even though I intended to buy a kindle with it at their store. He had the power to give me a refund but told me that if he made an exception for me he would have to make an exception for everyone. Stupid business move in my opinion since I've been buying most of my books on amazon ever since.
LOVE IT! Great hoodie for home or football games. Super comfy, great price, and quality. The service was fast and easy. So happy with this purchase.
I have both shopped and worked at the BYU Store out of necessity. This store exists to rip students off and cater to the wealthy. Everything is overpriced, particularly the textbooks, and the sell back program is a joke. I have a $120 textbook from them and they offered me $8 if I sold it back to them. Literally just go through Amazon to buy or sell, it's so much easier and so much more clear and they will not try to rip you off.
Placing an online order is so easy with the bookstore! The student employees who fulfill the orders are extremely nice and more than willing to go out of their way to help you! I'd recommend ordering textbooks or any other BYU merchandise from the website any day of the week. #ecommandcarryon
The employees I've interacted with have been top notch, caring employees.
The customer service could be way better. I was Caller number 1 and was still put on hold for 7+ minutes. I ve had this happen multiple times. With the longest being 30 minutes!
I was Calling about an online order that I chose to pick up in the store instead of having it shipped to me. I did this hoping it would be faster but when I called (After a week of having placed the order) they said it would be about another week or so before they could process the order and I could pick it up. So if you re tryin to order something as a gift, I would do it a month in advance because they re not super reliable on the delivery/pickup timeframe.
The sales are great, but that s the only time I d buy their merchandise. It s better to buy BYU gear at Walmart or Costco. It s a little too expensive.
Good experiences only at this spot, but the lines can get bad on busy days, and the cell service goes completely dead through most of the store.
Large store with a good variety of merchandise for students. However, I avoid buying textbooks here as much as I can as prices are much lower elsewhere.
I am a student a BYU and a huge BYU sports fan. I went and was looking around and they had a jacket that had a sale going on. I went to the register to ring it up and it came up at full price. I told them where I found it and they went and looked. They found a full rack of the same jacket with the sale price on it. They took down the sale and wouldn t give me the price it was indicated. They were very rude and didn t offer an apology or anything. I usually get most of my families Christmas gifts from the store but I guess I will have to go somewhere else. I will never buy another item from them until they honor their sell prices. The jacket was the coliseum down jacket. DOUBLE CHECKS YOUR RECEIPTS THEY WILL TRY AND ADVERTISE SALE PRICES AND CHARGE YOU FULL PRICE. I hope you respond and you can fix this problem.
Need some BYU gear? What about a cute dress? Some fudge or other delicious and unique candy? A present for literally anyone you can imagine? A textbook? Art supplies? Paintings? This store legitimately has it ALL. Plus, they wrap your gifts for you for free. I love this place. Go cougs!!
My goto place for cinnamon gummy bears and school specific text book. A little on the pricey side but hey, it is sure convenient.
I love the BYU bookstore. The staff is so friendly, and there is so great selection. I have only had wonderful experiences there. Thank you, BYU!
Every time I'm in town I visit BYU's charming college Bookstore. I'm enthralled with the wonderful selection of books, art, and the candy counter!
Don't hate on the BYU bookstore. Where else are you going to get a king lamoni action figure and fudge?
I have never had such wonderful mailing service! My items were easy to order and I received them with lightening speed. Many thanks!
Regina Hendrickson
Excellent customer attention given by friendly folks all over the store. Lots of neat things here, but be prepared to pay a high premium for that "Y" on the mug or shirt you're buying.
They have only ever been inflexible whenever dealing with textbooks. They are all overpriced and are horrible about accepting rental returns. If you are buying or renting textbooks, avoid them at all costs and just go through Amazon.
The employee Lisa was super helpful and friendly to me. I needed something for a school dance, and she was very helpful to make it work. I would like to shout her out as a fantastic employee:)
Store is really nice, but many things are not very competetively priced.
Textbook prices are so high, they should be reported to the Honor Code Office.
After promising to put together a textbook order for me before the first day of class, they finally got it out together on the Friday before the first day about 20 minutes before closing time. Then they mixed up one of my textbooks and I had to wait in a 30 minute line and go through a tedious process to fix their mistake. Additionally, when I had questions and tried to call in, I had to wait in a 90 minute queue. All around poor experience and lacking in professionalism.
As far as I'm concerned, the BYU Bookstore serves as the tourist gift shop of the campus. In standard situations you will rarely see students outnumber families and children. Everything is over priced there and if any BYU sporting event is on TV you can safely assume that the workers will be far from helpful as they are too busy watching the screens.
This is not to say the entire place is bad. The Twilight Zone runs as efficiently and calmly as any gas station, and I do find cords and computer peripherals very easily in the electronics section.
However, ultimately I find the bookstore to be more of an inconvenience to go to than ordering things on amazon or any similar service.
I thought the fact that this was a bookstore was a little underplayed.
Textbooks are super expensive here, never buy your textbooks from here, unless you have to.
I tried calling to cancel a book order. I was on hold for an hour and a half, only for the call to drop once I was at the front of the waiting queue. I tried again, same thing happened. I understand having some wait times when the semester is about to start for things like that, but that is just appalling.
Overpriced, inefficient, and disappointingly lacking as a store designed to provide textbooks to BYU students. I never buy books here if I can help it, and when I do they've almost never offered me any money to buy my books back. Do the universe a favor and put this place out of business by buying from amazon. They're faster, cheaper, and better stocked anyway.
We came slightly too late and I really wonder why the store closes already at 6pm. That's way too early if you ask me.
Excellent selection, friendly service. Seriously, the authors and publishers set pricing for new text books, not the bookstore. Whenever there is an option to offer rentals or used copies they do. Even the selection and pricing of some products is controlled by the manufacturers.
Judge them on what they can control, not what they cannot. Every interaction I've had with the employees at the store has been positive and helpful. They are knowledgeable and I can always find great BYU gear! Oh and the candy counter is amazing :)
I've enjoyed shopping at the BYU store for the past few years but after several recent run-ins with the poor customer service, I will no longer be shopping here. Just a few days ago, I called in with a few questions and again I was treated rudely, as if my questions and concerns were a major inconvenience to those working there. Almost every time I've called in before I have had similar results. Maybe it makes sense that customer satisfaction isn't a concern since the BYUstore can't exactly go out of business, yet it really is sad that there is such a clear misunderstanding between the treatment of customers here and the principles that the university is based on. Many of the employees are BYU students and until they and the BYU store administration show evidence that student customers deserve respect, I will do my best to no longer support this business in any way. I hope that this store will take a page from real businesses where customer satisfaction is a major concern.
I dealt with Katie who handled my phone order politely and with skill. She was sensitive to our need to get our "game day" shirts in time for first game. Thank you
Best store in all of BYU, but the only reason why I give it 4 stars is because they need to get more cloths for guys.
I ordered a batch of fudge for my brother's birthday and had it shipped directly to him. I put in the Note section of the online order that it was a gift for his birthday, although there were no gift options (i.e. a place to add a note to a recipient). Someone at the BYU Bookstore went above and beyond and put together a decorative birthday greeting to include in the package - complete with "Happy Birthday, Patrick!" with lots of colorful balloons. Very cool, BYU, very cool. That's what I call Customer Service!
Went to return a rental and they tried to charge me $50 for "water damage". Book was in the same condition I got it in. Spoke to the manager and she said "oh it's okay we'll just take it from you don't worry", as if she was doing me a favor. They tried to get away with charging me for no reason. Guess they figure they can take advantage of poor students. Shady shady shady.
Good customer service and quality and variety of products.
Textbooks are expensive, but they have a great variety of BYU apparel, clothing, candy and even a Wells Fargo Branch location inside. Gets really packed during class break.
I'm not sure why previous reviewers have been frustrated with the prices at the BYU Store. They offer an excellent range of products from premium brands like Nike (which is obviously very expensive) to their own incredible custom tee shirt designs which are all super affordable. You won't find as many BYU shirts for such low prices at any other location.
If you're going here for books you must not have noticed the candy counter
Lesson learned: don't use their ecommerce site to order apparel, especially if it will be a gift. Apparently the ecommerce staff can't tell the difference between adult sizes and youth sizes, so you might end up with multiple items of clothing that don't fit (like I did). Also, purchases must be returned within 30 days of the SHIPPING date, which means the return window is effectively about 15 days. That can be unreasonably short if you buy the item as a gift (like I did) and the recipient can't try on the item until they actually receive it. Save yourself some hassle and make your online purchases somewhere else.
I've been frustrated before with the service here. My most recent visit was quite pleasant, though. The guy went searching from the 3rd floor down to the basement and found the thing I'd requested. There were only a handful left, so I bought a couple in part because of how satisfied I was with his effort.
Literally the worst customer service from any store I've ever visited. The people that work here, especially at cougar tech, couldn't care less about the customers. It's just another campus job.
Never sell your books back to the BYU bookstore. Your book is worth more as a doorstop or toilet paper. Bought a book for $200 and they wanted to give me $10. I would have rather taken a plate of mint brownies.
Either find someone online to sell it to or keep the book and actually read it.
Great selection of BYU marked stuff. Well stocked. Friendly.
Despite the good selection, I never buy textbooks from here unless they are provided only through BYU. You can always find textbooks cheaper anywhere else than here.
Very helpful clerks, huge variety of modest clothing, lots of BYU themed fan gear, large book section. Large selection of pictures and paintings. They have a custom picture frame shop with all sorts of frame and matte styles. And if you love candy and fudge you will be in heaven here.
Ordering your textbooks online from the BYU Bookstore is the only way to go. It's like someone else doing your shopping for you. You order it, wait for like a day, then you get an email saying that your textbooks are ready. You just walk in and pick it up. I didn't have to wait in any lines or anything. The convenience is unbelievable. I will never buy textbooks any other way. Online ordering is the only way to go. Kudos to the BYU Bookstore.
I only buy textbooks here if they're BYU specific. Everything--EVERYTHING--is cheaper on Amazon. Not to mention the upstairs employees are always so grouchy and can never answer my questions. It seems like they are always out of stock--I Even had an out of stock eBook, which seems ridiculous when you think about it.
don't be a hater other reviewers. Try the chocolate covered cinnamon bears. you'll feel better.
I can't say much that hasn't already been said. Basically this is the best place to get BYU apparel. Their selection is incredible. So many tshirts, polos, ties, towels, socks, anything you can think of really. Just don't give them your email address unless you want emails about BYU water bottles and fidget spinners every week.
Also I don't really recommend buying anything else here if you're not in a rush. Prices are extremely marked up. Especially on textbooks.
I love this store. It's fun for my kids to go to. The candy counter is always a treat to scour. I love the variety of things they offer, from apparel to art to office supplies to toys to books. It's just a fun place to be. A must for any BYU fan..
PS the employees are always really sweet and cute!
Any time I'm in town I love going here to get the latest BYU gear it a great store with all your BYU needs
Found an amazing Dazi tie, but the entire store was nearly sold out and I had only four to pick from that were left.
When I need my BYU merch, some cinnamon bears or some quick office supplies, this place always delivers. Sometimes kinda pricey.
I love the BYU Store. It is the center location for students to get cool BYU stuff. I also had an amazing experience working in their computer repair shop and had such a positive experience. When I shop there most of the students are very pleasant and helpful.
