Ariane Chisholm Review of Buxton Inn

When we checked in, over a year into the pandemic, we were greeted by a maskless woman. We got all the way up to the desk and got a few sentences out before she put a mask on. She checked us in, walked us to our room, and gave us a bag of our requested breakfast items (prepacked items due to the pandemic). The bananas in the bag were inedible. They were mostly black. The apple, orange, and pre-packed items were all fine. The room itself was small but very nice. The chandelier and vintage furniture were really cool. The outside door, definitely original from the 1800s, didn't seem to be all that secure but there were no concerns about the neighborhood or other guests so it wasn't a big concern. Knowing things are weird because of the virus, I emailed a few days ahead of our stay to make sure we could still get takeout from the restaurant. I was assured we could, but when we came down to order something, we were told that wasn't going to be possible due to a wedding being held and the dining room being fully booked. After expressing disappointment that this is not what we were told, the guy (I think his name was Mark) checked with the kitchen and they said they could accommodate us. Mark was extremely helpful and apologetic and I appreciate his extra effort to help us. Our dinner was made in a reasonable amount of time given how busy they were, but the food was only so-so. Overall, the room was nice enough and Mark was great, but both the room and the dinner were not worth what we paid. It wasn't an awful experience, but between the maskless person, the bad bananas, the dinner confusion (which was resolved to my satisfaction by Mark) and the lackluster dinner itself, I doubt I would book here again unless I was attending an event on site.
