Was there for our 43rd anniversary

Was there for our 43rd anniversary
Our waiter (Jared) was Nasty and tried to get me to upgrade my wine from a $175 to a $275 bottle. Excuse me?

Then they bring out our steak. We order Pittsburgh style medium rare.
They got the Pittsburgh part right but the steak was way underdone. So much so that the knife was not cutting but tearing the meat. Called Jared over and his response "Well, that's how we cook medium rare. I said I don't think so. So he says here is the manager. Sarah. The sweetest Person I meet in all of Philadelphia. She save the say by cooking it for another 5 minutes. The Gall of this guy! Another thing, The brought us plates suited for vegetables. We said we want large flat plates. His response "We don't have any that is the plate we use for steaks". Five minutes later he returns with the plates. Why? Why do you have to be such a jerk Jared? I tipped him well because of the manager, Sarah and the table girl Christine. Had it been all for him He could have stuck the long bone up his "you know where"

To be fair the steak was absolutely delicious. LaFreida Long Bone Rib Eye aka as the Tomahawk. $125 and worth every penny

Undeniably delicious food and drinks!! We did steaks that were cooked to perfection and our waiter was fantastic, helpful and attentive! Only downside to our time was a screaming baby in a lovely dinner setting that none of the staff thought that would be disturbing to anyone else?? Everyone was appalled that nothing was being done and just let it go on for 30 minutes.

Great place to go for a good steak. I've always wanted to try this place and it didn't disappoint. It was busy on a Friday evening, but the atmosphere was good. The cocktail was tasty and exactly what I didn't know I needed (thanks to the server recommendation). New York Strip was cooked to perfection and the accompanying sides were heaven. For dessert: two words-- Grasshopper pie! I will be back as this will quickly become a staple.

Excellent food and service, perfect ambiance-- I preferred the dim lighting in fact. I came here based on a recommendation from a local friend who strongly suggested to try the pork chop, which I never have when I dine out, but took his advice and was glad that I did! The waiter was quite knowledgeable and helpful, he recommended a glass of Etude Lyric Pinot Noir to pair with my selections, which were the Steak Tartare and the Pork Chop. This Pinot Noir was youthful and had a mild & silky tannin. Very nice finish after my tartare, brought out the flavor nicely. For my tastes, I thought the tartare was perfect with a nice texture, could taste the meat well and had just the right amount of capers and flavor. The wine selection also paired perfectly with my bone in med. rare pork chop, which was cooked to perfection: very thick with a succulent center, incredibly juicy and tender till the very last bite. It came with a pineapple glaze (with a few cranberries) over vegetables on the side, was very sweet, candied like and tangy, and complemented the pork chop well. I probably will not forget this pork chop for a long! - that's how much I liked it. It definitely sets new standards, in my opinion.
I had a side of sauteed spinach with my meal. No dessert (as they didn't have any gluten free options.) But I was more than satisfied with my selections and glad that I happened to be stuck in Philly on a windy rainy night. Butcher and Singer was worth venturing out to, even with bad weather and a tornado watch.

I had a great meal here. My waiter was courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone of the staff I interacted with was great. The good was stunning. My steak was perfectly cooked and the accompaniments were also delicious. I'm glad I don't live nearby, as I could run up a serious bill! I would not hesitate to go back if ever I were in town again.

Bryan our waiter was superb!!! The food was awesome, but Bryan's suggestions led to an amazing and enjoyable meal, we all agreed he made our night and the food was top notch! I've had my share of high end dinners, this was the best...appetizers, drinks, entree and dessert is unparalleled!

I do like to be fancy every now and again. Steaks are great, the cuts and temperature were perfection. They even had Templeton rye which paired well with my meal. I tried getting a table the day before but before I could reserve on OpenTable my time got snatched up quicker than I could click confirm. I explained this to the host when I arrived. I found a space at the bar with my friend and almost immediately the host came up and asked if I would like to be seated due to a cancellation. Lady luck smiled upon me this time, but I recommend anyone hoping to get a table here to reserve well in advance.

These really are amazing donuts. They are fresh, made on sight, in front of you. The ingredients are so good especially if you like filled donuts. The taste is like none other. We loved them so much we ended up with two dozen.

If you are in Philadelphia and want a good steak, make Butcher and Singer your ONLY choice. Having eaten here many times, I thought it was time to leave a review. While it is off the beaten path on Walnut Street, the unassuming front opens into a grand room with the original chandeliers from the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami prior to the remodel. The atmosphere feels like something from 75 years ago and allows for enjoyment of a simplier time. As for the food, whether I come in for the Butcher Burger lunch or a filet for dinner, the meat is always fresh and cooked to order. The quality of the steaks here is absolute top notch and the service from beginning to end ensures that your needs are met. It is money well spent and the meal will be memorable. As a bit of trivia, it used to be a restaurant called the Striped Bass and where the dinner scene was filmed in the sixth sense.

What a great time! My hubby took me here for our anniversary. We were met at the door by two smiling faces who showed us to our table with a sweet card to celebrate our special day. Our waiter Brian was a ROCK STAR! Sang to us, knew the menu, and made the night so special. The food all looked great. We had seafood tower and it was great. The atmosphere is beautiful. I am so lucky to have a wonderful hubby who found this place.

We went this steak house on restaurant week. The steak is very good as I heard, and the services was quiet nice too. You can feel its a fancy place to have dinner. I went with a buch of friends and we actually dress formally. It's a good place but you go on usual days, I suppose it would be expensive.

Love Butcher & Singer on our many dinners there over the years. On our most recent visit, service was impeccable as usual, but the food was not up to our usual expectations. Caesar Salad was so-so, Veal chop was good but not great with a lot of fat. Filet was good, but again, not the best. We will return, but hope to be "wowed" like usual.

My wife and I had dinner here last Sunday. The pre-dinner cocktails were awesome. I had a sidecar which was fantastic. For dinner we had the NY strip which was delicious and cooked exactly as we wanted, medium. The sides were stuffed hash brown, escargot and brussel sprouts. Each we're amazing. For dessert we had the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream which I devoured happily.

My sister, friend and I decided to have lunch at Butcher & Singer during Restaurant Week. The lovely hostess greeted us at the door with a warm smile and we were seated quickly. We ordered from the restaurant week menu. The butternut squash soup had layers of flavor; the salmon was fresh and tender; the lemon tart was sweet and absolutely delicious. The ambience was great and our waiter was friendly and professional. This is a restaurant I plan to visit again. Thank you!

Group from conference gathered for dinner. Biggest complaint were rib eyes weren't prepared as requested. Overdone and dry. Water only half filled and no ice. Otherwise, it was very enjoyable and great service.

My wife and I were able to get away for a rare date night and picked Butcher and Singer purely because they had reservations available. The bar was set low for Butcher and Singer but, by the end of the night, they took that bar and snapped it in two over its knee.

The service was fantastic. Our waiter was very attentive without being overly so and answered any questions we had about the menu. The food was five star. I got the Delmonico while my wife got the filet. Both were cooked exactly to order and the flavor of their steak is still something that s with me to this day. The sides were also great with the stuffed hash browns being particularly memorable.

He only thing that kept this from being a five star experience was the atmosphere. The evening was pretty noisy and there were times where my wife and I had a hard time hearing each other. Not the most romantic for date night. But if you re looking for a great steak you can do worse then Butcher and Singer.

Great experience. Pricey, but food & service were impeccable. King crab app came with a very good cocktail sauce. 2 rather small leg pieces seemed high for $22. Wedge salads were great, we did 1/2 wedges. The 8oz. filet, medium rare, was the best my spouse had outside of Japan. I had the fried shrimp. Taste was good but it was a little well done & hard. Hashbrown was excellent!!

It was superb. SUPERB! I wish it was more special when it comes to service I made arrangement for a birthday celebration and it went un noticed. ( I spoke to a manager. I dont think it was waitress fault. She was so great) Bar service was really slow however our waitress took such pride in her job. It made up for it.

Will be back!!!

We went there hoping for a good steak. We asked if there was a dress code, they said no. The sat us in the Conner and claimed that there was no more seating. Yet people were being seated. It was obvious if you were not dress up -you were toss to the Conner as we were. Our waiter was the bartender and he was stretch too thin. Food was ok but took a while for to get our drinks and then when the food came we had no utensils literally 30mins had passed till someone came over and asked if there was any concerns. No joke it was a horrible experience all together, I don't wish that on anyone.

A truly unique and beautiful dinning experience. You really are going back in time when sitting in this steak house. Ive been a total of three times and it's a great meal every time. On the latest visit I had the restaurant week menu which came with a thick slab of maple bacon for the app an 8 oz. Fillet for the main, creamed spinach and a chocolate tart dessert. It was all very good. I ordered the steak medium and it came out a little dry to my liking. Next time I'll stick with medium rare. Also added the baked Alaska. Very very good. Definitely try it out.
