We frequent ButcherBlock multiple times a year. We always go around Valentines Day/my birthday, as they are right by each other. We went on 2/10/18 and arrived around 6:30. The host stated there was a 25min wait. While we were waiting we noticed multiple open tables. We noticed several groups of people coming into the restaurant and the host seated them right away. When I had put our name on the list there was only three names ahead of us. While we waited... a group of three females came in to the restaurant and the host goes yes, we just had a table open up and we will seat you . By this time my husband and I debated on going elsewhere. The host came up and goes I m going down the list, it should be about 5ish minutes . (It took another 10mins before he came back yet again saying it should be one more minute a table JUST opened). We counted FIVE parties were sat before us. And the table that was empty the entire time we were there was sat RIGHT BEFORE US. When we finally got sat there was slight confusion between the two servers on who would get our table. The server came over and right off the bat said I m so busy!! Such a busy night!! ....... like it was going to be an excuse if things took long or if she took longer to get around to us and check on us. Our food was delicious as usual. But the service was definitely lacking. It was one of the longest visits we ve had at your restaurant.... even on one of your busier nights ...I wrote on your contact us page either that night when we got home or the very next day. Although the food was good the experience did not sit well with us. Lastly, after I wrote the experience on your website, not even an acknowledgement was given or any apology. I would have at least expected a reply back but there was nothing. Hmm....

UPDATE*** Contacted the manager around 3pm today (2/19) Just a bit of advice...if you are going to tell people to contact you, lets have a name to contact instead of saying just to contact the restaurant number during business hours... the manager I talked with had NO clue what was going on, therefore I had to re-state the experience I had...this now being the THIRD time... and she stated the Contact Us portion of your website is sending the comments somewhere, she doesn't even know where!!! So maybe you should put a note on your site that states that feature isn't working properly until you get it fixed.

Butcher Block Steakhouse in Cedar Rapids serves the finest steaks in the Midwest, it doesn't get any better than this place.

Delicious prime rib. Food presentation made it even better. The environment is warm and the staff friendly.

Huge menu, excellent food. If your looking for a nice lunch or a special dinner try the Butcher Block you will not be disappointed

Good food and friendly wait staff. They need to spend some money cleaning out their fish tank display though. There is red algae all over the glass. They also have a large eel stuck in a small tank. I feel is should call the fishery and wild life department. Please clean the tanks

We booked the Venue by Butcher Block- which is an event area attached to the restaurant for large parties. We worked with Haley to organize our Rehearsal Dinner on 10/25. She was absolutely fantastic and would highly recommend this venue if you are looking for a spot with space for any type of large group gathering. We were able to come in for a taste testing to pick out our personalized menu (which was so fun and yummy). Everyone raved about the food and the service that evening was top notch! We truly enjoyed the experience!

Took over an hour to get our food once we were seated and the meat was really dry

There were 3 or 4 dogs running around and licking the floor. One knocked over a few chairs and it created a terrible clatter. I got the sirloin which was delicious. Waiter asked me not to take our drinking glasses when we left, so no 5 stars for this place.

It was a very pleasant experience. There was a large fish tank with a verity of fish, the bathrooms we're nice, it was a nice place to be in, and the food and service quality was great and the people there are nice too! I would definitely recommend this to other people!

Outside venue is great. Food is good. Staff seemed overworked.

Waited 2 hrs for our food. The people behind us got there 20 minutes after us, and were served and gone before we even got our salads. Good food tho

The place could be good. Staff is okay, nothing special, but they are in general nice. Food is okay, nothing special. Our meals were served lukewarm at best. I think management is cutting some corners here on what could be a good place.

The service is very good, the food could be better. The hamburger was decent, but I have had better ones.

Great food, good service, and good beer selection make this place a family favorite. We consistently have a great time here. I recently tried the Caribbean chicken sandwich in a whim, not something I'd normally try, but it was amazing, so full of flavor. Overall one of my favorite places to eat.

My wife had a Greek salad with chicken and I had the 18 oz dry aged ribeye. Both were fantastic and our server was very kind and helpful. We will be back . Everything was cooked perfectly and our drinks were fair priced.

The foods are great and the prices are very reasonable. All my co-workers love the place.

Love this steakhouse! I frequently come here with friends and family or for business. Never had anything I didn't like. Cocktail menu is very good too! Pumpkin White Russian is delicious this time of year. They recently renovated some of the interior, I miss the fish tanks, but it opened up the room nicely. Would recommend this location for anyone looking for a nice meal without breaking the bank.

Had the 20 oz t-bone was very dissatisfied. It honestly reminded me of a steak you would get at Denny's or Perkins after the bars close. Not to say they are bad but just had much higher expectations. My wife had the ahi tuna salad we think the waiter forgot to put in her order because her order came a bit later than the rest of us. The ahi was unseasoned and still frozen in the center. The presentation was terrible it thrown on top a bed of lettuce. Very disappointing.

We had the filet mignon and was great! Laura was our server and did a great job

I will say, previous visits to the old location were rather hit or miss. This being my second visit to the new joint, I am really starting to like this place. Prices are average for a nice local restaurant, the few dishes I've had were delicious & well-prepared, & the service was acceptable. The bar is well-stocked & makes for a great centerpiece. I will be back!

Great steaks, good local tap choices, and excellent sides. Highly recommend the "Cowboy" (16 oz Ribeye - my wife and I split it!), tater tots, and sweet potato fries. Great patio seating with very comfortable chairs as well!

edit - one point I left off was that, while perfectly cooked on the inside, the outside of the steak was a little charred. I thought it was fine, but my wife felt it needed more salt to bring out the flavor of the meat. After following her advice and adding some salt out of the on-table grinder, the steak went from 4 or 5 out of ten (for top steakhouses) to an 8 or 9. Still full points for final flavor - if you don't mind seasoning your own food a little to get it the way you like it!

Slow service and the food was ok but have had better.

If you like frozen steaks that are way over priced, small portions, cheese from a can (seriously cheese from a Damn can), and a General Manager that only knows how to be rude to guests and always smells of alcohol(which I didn't think it was very acceptable to be drunk at work, her red lips and tongue and boozey odor gives it away every time, that if you're lucky to ever see the woman, normally she is gone by 5 everyday.... oh and they got rid of the 2 for 1 happy hour drink special.... then keep going. Cool patio bar, but that's it. I actually don't see this place open come 2020. The owner spent years in prison, and when you see him at the bar he is wasted. He obviously doesn't have a clue. Btw... again the only thing fresh in that place is your salad... everything else comes frozen or from a box or can. Nothing original. They claim some are, but you can't be when it all comes from boxes and cans.... CHEESE SAUCE FROM A DAMN CAN! couldn't believe it.

The prime rib tasted like it was seasoned with McCormick, it wasn't flavorful and it was over cooked, same with my husband's steak. I was disappointed. I was hoping for a good steakhouse. Should have just cooked a meal at home. Service was fine. It was very quiet.

I come here from Davenport just to get the smothered chicken. It's delicious!

Went for lunch with a 10+ group and the food took more than 1 hr to get out after ordering. And only 2 people ordered the steaks. Should not have taken that long to come out!

Food, beer and atmosphere - all good when busy, excellent when not busy

Definitely won't be going back. The place wasn't extremely packed when we got there, and we were sat immediately. From that point on everything took forever...drinks, taking our order, appetizers, etc. We finally got our food 2 hours later and it was Luke warm. Asked to speak to a manager and he didn't even come over, just sent the waitress back to apologize. We were ready to stand up and leave the food on the table. I feel like every restaurant in this chain is the same way...including every rileys ive been to in town.

Never had a bad meal here. Great outdoor bar when the weather permits.

We celebrated 2 birthdays here with family on a Sat night. The food was great and there was a nice selection for all. We had several children and there was a nice selection for them also. The fish and steaks both were delicious. I had the salmon and it was great! We were pleasantly surprised that they had wine specials on a Sat night! We got s bottle before 6 pm for less than the price of 2 glasses! Great deal! And the Cabernet was very good! We had s great night. We certainly will be back!

Extremely slow service, lunch for 5 people took nearly 75 minutes to receive our food.

Excellent service but our large party didn't always get order details right (i.e. condiments and sides).

Usually a great experience. The steak salads are great, and their steaks on their own. I even had a steak sandwich, which was surprisingly not amazing. Great beer selection and very professional service.

Love this place! The food is great and the drinks are fantastic. One of the places my friends and I frequent for get togethers and drinking. They have a great outdoor area (weather permitting), and inside is pretty as well. They have large salt water fish tanks that are fun to look at and a good-sized bar. They have a large seating area for guest overflow or for large parties (with another bathroom the party can use). Great atmosphere and customer service as well.

Over priced and the food quality nothing to scream about, there is better places than this one.

We are from Chicago and came to Cedar Rapids to learn more about our ancestry. We decided on Butcher Block due to the casual setting offering upscale food.
We were blown away by the amazing food and great service. Worth every penny. This food would cost much more for the outstanding quality in or near Chicago.
Best appetizers we've ever had and the most flavorful steaks cooked to perfection that we could cut with a fork. The salmon was perfection and better than any we've had on the coast.
Not one negative! We'll be making a 4 hour mini trip soon to bring family and friends. It's that good!

The steak is nd lobster tail, virgin mojitos (mocktails are available), and delectable desserts. Top notch because of food and service.

Enjoyed the staff, food, and atmosphere. I didn't like the ideal they lost my reservations, but they were able to accommodate the faimly 7 with a table
