A superb venue in Stoke-on-Trent that adds much to the city. Provides an insight into the history of the Potteries, you can see a working factory and the original workings of the old potbank, the shop sells some lovely items and the cafe does wonderful yet simple food and afternoon cream teas.
Very up and coming, running events and school activities regularly. Saw on our last visit they have opened a clay college there.
Beautiful walks on the surrounding canals also add to any visit to Middleport Pottery.
First day the museum was open. Greeted by lovely, enthusiastic volunteer guides. Had a great time.
Wonderful afternoon. Many thanks to the knowledgeable staff, who chatted and guided us, making it a very interesting and informative visit.
Great heritage site. Lovely place to sit and enjoy the history of the place
Our Tour guide was Kathe and one of the best tour guide and met distant relative of Clarice cliff and again two best pottery designers. Kathe was amazing and explained us a lot about pottery making and history. It was one of our best day out . We will come back again for a factory visit. Thank you.
This is a great place if you want to explore Stoke-On-Trent's history with pottery. Even Prince Charles himself helped to support and keep the pottery factory running! They have friendly multiple artists with their own style of pottery. They even have friendly staff which can help you navigate around if you need assistance and can explain the history. If you need a drink and a little meal there is a nice little cafe in the middle. And they even let you look at the factory where they model and shape the pottery! Highly recommended on a day out.
There isn't much to do here and with covid restrictions it has made it harder to allow for in-house activities but it is still an extremely fascinating and historical place to visit nevertheless. All the staff members we encountered, including in the tea room, were very friendly and gave their time to talk us through the history of Middleport Pottery and how their products were made. If they make another series of 'The Great Pottery Throwdown' I would recommend you see it as Middleport was where it was recorded.
Me and my partner visited and we had a nice time, taking in all of the lovely buildings and history. The site is packed full of information and lovely handmade pottery.
The car park is a decent size, from there you enter the site via the factory shop, it is full of lots of different patterns and colours of all sorts of crockery and trinkets. The staff are wearing face shields and contactless payments are accepted.
At the back of the shop there is the entrance to the visitor section, you enter your details for COVID-19 contact and trace purposes and pay contactless, a student discount is available.
From there you can go upstairs if you like, then work your way around the buildings- a disposable map is given and a door fob, which gives you access to the locked sections of the tour, you give the fob back once you re done with your visit.
There are plenty of old machines and photos dotted around each room and staff are walking around if you have questions.
The cafe is right next to the canal, you get to see the canal boats going past frequently. The chairs are comfortable and there is seating indoors if you fancy it.
There are several pottery shops and galleries on the tour, have a look in each and get a sense of each style they are selling.
Unique gift items and inspiration are in an abundance here.
I enjoyed walking in the old kiln, it was nice.
On the way out we got some gifts for people and a nice shopping bag. Everything that s there is on the website, if you need help finding things you can ring up and ask.
Such a beautiful and unmissable place. Located by the canal, the original building, after some restoration is still used to produce potteries. It is well worth having a tour of this building that hosts also some artists working on location. Have a stop also at the cafe: it is lovely and makes very good food. It is worth having a walk on the opposite side of the canal both to have a better view of the pottery but also to have a look of the ruins of part of the old building.
