Really professional auction house with very helpful Staff

GREAT SELECTION OV GOODS AND AMPLE TIME TO LOOK AROUND AND HELPFUL STAFF

Avoid this company at all costs! I wish I could give zero stars.

I went to Anderson & Garland as I was looking for a quick sale of my diamond ring.. After handing over the ring I didn't hearing anything for a few weeks and when I got in contact with them; they said the ring would be featured in an auction in a months time. I wasn't best pleased about this; as a month was quite a long time to wait considering I had already waited a few weeks at this point.

The auction date set eventually passed and I heard nothing. Once again I contacted them to be told the ring still hadn't even gone into auction AND it would be be another month before it would be in taken to auction. At this point I lost my patience and asked for the manager to give me a call as we agreed on a quick sale, not for them to hold onto my item for months and months without even putting it for sale.

The manager rang me, apologised and said they had to cancel auctions and that I should have been notified. He said: if I agreed, he would put the ring into the next suitable auction which was in 2 weeks time and was very confident the ring would sell (and even go for a great price). Against my better judgment I agreed to wait a FURTHER 2 weeks on top of the time I had already waited. Again the auction date passed and I didn't hear a thing. I contacted Anderson & Garland again, this time to be told the item didn't sell.

To sum up: I went to Anderson & Garland for a quick sale, almost 4 months later, having completely wasted my time, energy and petrol, I have today collected the ring from them. I'm very annoyed because I could have sold this privately myself by now. If you are after a quick sale, don't go to them! If you want them to hold onto your stuff for months and months and.... maybe sell it (or not in my case) then be my guest,

Regular buying at this place has now become impossible for me due to the extortionate storage charges that they now impose after 2 days.... Will not purchase from them anymore...

Very expensive. Commision is 17.5%, but with secret add on fees you're more likely to be paying 25%. Not impressed with how these fees were added on without my prior consent or knowledge.

Can't say i have been impressed with the marketing either, it seemed low key and not particularly far reaching.

Overall verdict - avoid (unless you like keeping well paid middlemen in employment)

We have visited many times and have bought and sold here. It is a good saleroom with knowledgeable and helpful staff. We've noticed that the buyers and sellers premium is now 20% plus vat = 24% which must make it one of the most expensive auctioneers in the North East.

Professional auctioneers. Helpful across a wide range of items. Lots of different sales and expertise. Buyer's commission a bit high even in the room.
