Was a little dirty feeling. Love Bubba Gumps environment, but that seemed to be gone. The wait staff usually have fun with Forrest Gump trivia and that didn't happen anywhere in the restaurant. I love the cajun shrimp. It was still offered but not on the menu and a much smaller portion for the same price. Slightly disappointed, but still think the food is great.
It was okay. There was a line when we got there, but we didn't wait long to be seated. We ordered our drinks, appetizers and entrees. Our drinks were served then we waited. I think I had a couple of refills then our meals were served. We were halfway through our meals when we realized that we didn't get our appetizer. With their screw-up they still changed $1 per refill for my kids lemonades. I don't think they care that much anymore because this place has become a tourist trap. People will still line-up to get in, and will never see them again. Very unfortunate for us locals. My opinion.
Bubba Gump, you're getting 2 stars because the first visit was 5 stars, this last visit you owed me stars it was that bad! My first visit a few weeks back was stellar, service was great, food was on point... everything was right where it needed to be. Tonight (Monday the 11th March) not so much, not at all actually. In town again, had a colleague in town for the first time, thought you all were a good bet. Boy was I wrong. Slow service, never came back to check on drinks, never brought lemons that were requested repeatedly, split credit card order at the end was messed up. Rounding out the evening, as I left, your great staff of Bubba Gump physically snatched the receipt out of my hand, basically accusing my party and I of dining and dashing (it was a paid receipt). They kept telling me I didn't need it. I did need the receipt as my "free" glass which was 12 dollars required the receipt. I don't know who these clowns are, but staff should NEVER put hands on patrons! You definitely don't remove things out of hands of patrons. I will definitely not be returning. I thought I'd try this establishment out after a miserable experience in the Destin FL restaurant I was really pleased the first time a few weeks back. friendly, responsive, accurate staff, y'all had better food,, but this time far worse service I'm sad to say and after this, pretty sure I'll find someplace else to take my associates. Bubba Gump, Tonight you get an F
At Bubba Gump we had shrimp Haeven and it was delicious again there are 4 different types of shrimp and fries we take this dish for two. As a side dish we chose the steamed vegetables, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts, also delicious. We were very satisfied again
The setting and views are great, the food is good, and the prices aren't bad at all. However, and I don't know whether this is common or not, the kitchen/servers managed to lose multiple table's dishes. Our table didn't get the appetizer we ordered, and the table next to us didn't one they ordered either. The server was nice enough to take the item off the bill, but it was still rather disappointing. Aside from that I'd recommend it. 3/5
It's a good place to come by once. Price is high, but that's expected of a place with a view or if you are coming for the forest Gump theme experience. Can be very packed during regular lunch and dinner time. Off hours are a must if you want quick seating. You can flip the metal signs in the middle to stop the waiters, fun idea, but they probably come to you anyways or faster with a call button. Good place to entertain the older folks who watched the movie before.
Food is always good, Its pretty much always crowded cause its on cannery row but that's expected. Servers are always polite and helpful. I've never had a bad experience here.
We came here today and the service was incredible! They even took care of our pet by providing some water for him to drink. Had lots of fun with our server playing the forest gump trivia contest
Maybe we just chose the wrong day with the wrong staff or is it standard practice at Bubba Gumps to ignore latino customers? It wasn't just us. The two other tables with latino customers were given the same treatment as we were. Light skinned diners were being well tended to while we had to keep waving down our waitress refills, boxes and the check and finally having to ask someone else for a bag. It's 2019 not 1950!
This is a great place to go, even for families! I was there with a party of 10 and they had no trouble getting us a table; I don't even think the wait was that long. The place is all decked out in Forrest Gump decor and the best part, besides the food, is that there are signs on each table that say "Run Forrest Run" for when you don't want the waiter to stop at your table and "Stop Forrest Stop" for when you want the waiter to stop at your table. The waiters also ask you Forrest Gump trivia questions, which adds some fun to your meal. Honestly, I think they should have "Gump" by "Weird Al" Yankovic playing in the background. I've only seen bits and pieces of the movie but that song pretty much explains it if you've never seen it ;)
Great experience, the waitress had us going on the movie trivia; loved the whole experience & the steak & fish n chips were so delicious me n the misses will b back 4 more! Pricey? Yes, but you get what you pay for & as I said, we'll b BACK!
Hungry tried eating there but their system crashed but the guy in the front desk could not tell us anything. An hour after the time we were supposed to eat I get a text.
Lots of shrimp on the menu and not a lot else..(exception being a burger dish,a chicken dish and steak dish)...staff friendly enough but felt our meal was very rushed...we were still eating appetisers when our main courses arrived, we were still eating our mains and were being asked if we wanted dessert....felt like they just wanted us to spend as much as possible in as short a time as possible.. then go.
Food was very good. Our waiter was very nice and helpful. It took awhile to get a table about 30 mins but well worth the wait. Great job BubbaGump shrimp!!!
I had one of the greatest experiences there. With a 30mins wait, we walked around the neighborhood, got some herb vinegar across the street (I always get a new one when I visit Monterey!). The service was great, we got the chance to sit by the window. Unfortunately, it was raining and the view was not the best. The food was delighted and the atmosphere was cozy! The server was full of hospitality and gave a lot suggestions and explanations. For dessert, we had the 3 samplers which were cheesecake, chocolate cookies with ice-cream, cant remember the other one but it was also with ice-cream toppings. Not a fever of the cheesecake (I think it was too thick). Over all we had a great time! (There was a map in the interior wall, they have a lot chain restaurants in America! )
This is one of the best restaurants to visit while in Monterey. Great food. Lots of memorabilia from the movie. I love getting drinks that come with a free souvenir cup. Their coconut shrimp is very good. I don't normally like coconut but this dish is the exception.
This place is okay. Feels like a chain (which it is) and the food is overpriced for what you get, but they always base their locations near touristy areas so they can justify the prices.
It was our first time coming here and the food was great. The shrimp mac-n-cheese was absolutely delicious, I'd go back just for that. Our waitresses (Merna) was amazing, very friendly, professional, excellent service and made our time there enjoyable.
Terribly crowded, food was overrated, and pricing is a couple bucks on the high side for what you're getting. This restaurant packs people in like a cattle car and the service seems almost a tad overwelmed by the numbers. This is a novelty restaurant, nothing more. The food is average, service is average, price not in line with food quality, and because of the crowd stuffed inside, it's noisy.
On the plus side, it's got a great location right on the water and conveniently located which is what suckered our party of six through its doors. Never again. Do as Forest Gump would do, and Run... Run Forest Run!
First time, at Bubba Gump!!! I got the window seat. And they were very busy. Service was great. The meal was ok. Taste the same, as if I went to other sea food restaurant. Not outstanding, but still good food. Prices ok. Nothing to brag about. I would come back. I
Very good food and the service was excellent, only problem is that it's a huge open room which makes it somewhat loud. Still very enjoyable looking over the ocean though.
Mediocre at best. Some friends and I came into Monterey for a day at the aquarium. My friends wanted to stop at Bubba Gumps for lunch. I have dined at this Bubba Gumps before as well as ones in LA and San Francisco. The experience is usually hit or miss. In this case, it was certainly a miss.
The place was busy but not overly so. We arrived around lunch time so this was expected. We were seated fairly quickly. The server was friendly but definitely rushed.
The crux of the bad experience was the meal I ordered. I asked to sub the clam chowder soup instead of fries. For some reason management refused this. Weird but fine. I requested a salad instead. I paid a 3 dollar upcharge for what amounted to be a handful of romaine lettuce, three cherry tomatoes, a few croutons, and a teaspoon of salad dressing, all strewn messily about a small plate. Certainly not worth a one dollar upcharge, let alone three!
My meal (Lt. Dan's Platter) was not much better as it was barely lukewarm. Additionally, the shrimp was chewy and bland and the ribs were skimpy on meat (even for ribs.) The cherry on this dubious sundae was getting my bill and being surprised by the fee for a refill on my drink (which was mostly ice.) It would have been nice to know I would be charged.
One positive, the hush puppies were good, although they belonged on my friend's side of the bill. All in all, I spent almost 80 dollars on a meal that was barely worth 20.
This was by far my worst experience at Bubba Gumps and one of the worst at a restaurant in general. They earned at least 2 stars for being relatively fast and not poisoning me. They earned one more star because the server did the best she could with what she had (or at least it seemed that way.) I don't believe I will be visiting again however.
Had to give it a 3 because the server had no care for her guest. The manager did his best to accommodate, but service was too much of a disaster. Drinks were wrong. Meals were wrong. Missing items & it was a reservation for a birthday party & she didn't offer anything as we watched 4 different tables get cupcakes & sang to. No apology from the server. The manager was amazing but she had passed us to another server before he got the opportunity to salvage the experience.
The food was good. The tables are a little close to each other. It was hard to get in and out of my seat. There was also a really loud lady at the table next to us and it was difficult to talk to the people at my own table.
Delicious food! If you have seen the movie this is a great experience, even if you haven t the staff is great, friendly and our food was provided in a timely manner, the staff even interacted with my 3 year old daughter.
This place is crazy busy...we waited 2 hrs to get a seat..the food is not that great..there is no parking if you just want to go there to eat, you have to get meter parking like 2 blocks from there and constantly make sure it has enough time buy the time you get seated.. when inside it was super loud we could not hear our waitress when placeing our order...crazy
Overall, this chain fit the bill. The food was not exceptional, but good, and over-priced. But if you are eating on Cannery Row, shame on you if you expect anything different. The wait staff was really nice, and the service was prompt. If you are into this type of venue, it is a good place to stop in.
The wait was 1+ hr, we explored Cannery Row after we checked in. It was convenient that they texted us once they were ready to seat us.
The food didn't quite meet my expectations, nor did my dish match the picture on their menu, but it was still enjoyable.
The girl that was traveling with me found a hair in her pasta and the waitress quickly replaced her plate with a new dish. They also didn't charge her for the dish because of the hair that was found, so that was a plus.
