I just bought a 2019 Certified Pre Owned CX5 from Bountiful Mazda three days ago. The vehicle was previously one of their service loaners, so all of the service was presumably done by this dealership. I m loving the car as Mazda has designed it, but these are the concerns with this dealer and my experience so far.
The bad:
We test drove this vehicle with a low tire pressure indicator on and it was filthy. We called an hour before coming and told them the specific car we were interested in, so the salesman had plenty of time to put air in the tire and wash the car, but they just pulled it to the front and popped the hood. Perhaps if I was buying a Ferrari I would be more interested in what the engine looked like than I was this 2.5L 4cyl with a plastic cover on it, but it s nice to see anyways.
We noticed damage on the rear bumper and tried to negotiate a bit with that but they said it was already considered in the price. We asked what they thought the cost of the damage would be and after consulting with a manager the salesman said it should only be around $400.
We ended up purchasing the vehicle and my wife drove it home (I had driven separately), and when we got it home I noticed the tire pressure indicator was still on... the vehicle was still also not clean or vacuumed, and it only had a quarter tank of gas.
I checked the tire pressure and it was 15 PSI. We were sent out the door with a flat tire, an empty tank, and a dirty car. We also noticed a rock chip in the windshield after having to wash the car ourselves AND that the damage was more that we originally could see. After getting three separate quotes from body shops, the CHEAPEST option is twice the cost the salesmen estimated. I understand they are not a body shop, but it could be why it was considered in the price instead of the dealer just getting it fixed themselves. Again, they re not body shop techs, so it s likely they just didn t know.
The good:
Due to the Covid issue, the dealer closes early, so we couldn t make it there until a little before they close. They were happy to stay after and the sales staff was very friendly. Joshua was a VERY friendly salesman. I took the vehicle into the service department the next day for the rock chip and again, I had a very friendly service employee assist me and took care of the rock chip quickly without any problems at all.
The dealer also offered a good incentive of free tires and oil for life (I have to pay labor and it s only when tires wear out, not if they re damaged).
Overall I really love this car, and the staff was very friendly for the most part. I actually worked at a Mazda dealership years and years ago and we would have never sent a car off the lot without detailing it and with a warning light on the dash. I understand a lot of dealers don t fill up the tank on used cars, and that s no big deal.
I imagine some of the aforementioned concerns were because we came in so late and I m sure they close up parts of the dealership.
So far I like Bountiful Mazda. There are just a few simple things I feel shouldn t have been an issue.
