I bought a 'certified pre-owned' BMW here, but turned out certification didn't mean much when water poured in due to blocked drains shortly after purchase resulting in damage to interior of the car. I recommend the car, but taking your business elsewhere. I had initially given 5 star rating (for the car really) - but cannot in good conscious recommend this dealership now.

I bought a new car last week during the SIP and considering the unusual circumstances of trying to buy a car while social distancing and wearing face masks, they were very professional and made buying a new car super easy. I worked with the Pre-Owned Manager, Mark Blackshere and he was terrific. I highly recommend this dealership the next time you buy the Ultimate Driving Machine.

Along the years my wife and I have had a number of BMWs, from the 3s to the 8s, but for some time now we had been driving other makes. It felt good to come back to the brand and get our first X, particularly because of the great experience we had working with Luis Chinchilla, who made all easy and reasuring.
As you can imagine we have a long experience with car dealers, and this was an exceptionally good one.
Both Luis and the rest of the team in BMW San Rafael were outstanding in going through the process smoothly, in a friendly manner and fixing any minor issue promptly and efficiently.
At a time when most of the process of buying a car can and is done on-line, interacting with these people was a pleasure!

I was really impressed with how quickly I completed my recent purchase at Sonnen. I got a great quote from their internet sales manager, Jessy. When I arrived, I took a quick test drive to confirm it was what I wanted, and zoomed through the paperwork. Jessy prepped very reasonable terms from the get-go, there were no surprises, and the process was very smooth! No one was pushy, I was treated very well, and I got a great car for a great price!

We bought a new 2015 BMW X3 in mid-2014. We don't use it much. Drive on regular streets, no rough roads. Have less than 15,000 miles on it. Yesterday the service guy said one front tire was badly worn on one side; indicating the need for realignment, plus the need for both front tires to be replaced. Close to $900 for the tires. Close to $300 for the realignment. He said 'normal wear and tear'. With less than 15K miles? Seems like a defective car to me. But..... no recourse.
BMW quality going down. Our previous SUV was a Lexus. Better manufacturing.

I rarely post but decided to say something today about how impressed I was when I dropped into the BMW dealership in San Rafael recently. I was lucky enough to be assisted by Jim Leavitt who I found helpful, patient, professional and not pushy. All my questions were answered and I learned more about BMW's in the conversation with Jim. This while feeling taken care of by him. I had feared the worst: that looking for a car was going to be such a stressful experience, which was not the case. I would highly recommend this establishment and Jim to anyone in the market for a luxury car.

Jim ,the internet sales manager, was the first person I spoke with. I inquired about a car they had on their website, gave them my info, called me and said lets sign papers. Unfortunately, I was not able to meet Jim when I got there after 6 pm, but he did leave my info with Luis Chinchilla.

Luis was such a great help. He was very informative, he knows his stuff about cars, and he was very entertaining while we waited for the finance manager to meet with us. Mike, the finance manager, was great also. He gave his information about warranties and did not even make us feel like we needed to buy the warranty.

Overall, I rate this dealership a 10. So far, I have recommended this place to friends and family. They provide excellent service. Thank you Sonnen BMW!!

Robert Stephens, my service rep was amazing. I brought the car in for it's first servicing and while he told me it would be an hour and a half, he got it finished in half the time. I appreciated his not over delivering on the promise, but over delivering on the actual service! I have found the entire staff there from Jonathan who sold me the car to Robert who helped me get it serviced! Outstanding dealership!!!

I have bought all my BMWs and had all my service performed by Sonnen and the dealership deserves the highest rating. Jim Leavitt has provided me with really exceptional service in selecting and buying the cars. I have really enjoyed owning these vehicles but knowing Jim is there has been what has brought me back. I had been to a number of dealerships before finding Sonnen and Jim has really distinguished himself with his commitment to attending to me. I am not an easy customer either. I am one of those people who wants to know all the ins and outs of each vehicle from the beginning. He's just been great with the initial browsing, purchase, and follow up service and that's what will keep me coming back. Thanks Jim!

Peter Is very knowledgeable in all aspects of BMW vehicles and answered our questions in a friendly and professional manner. He made us feel welcome and the whole purchase experience was seamless along with the amazing follow through. Every detail was handled carefully with a personal touch including our experience with Shaun Hagerman, the financial director. We bought our FIRST BMW from Peter Rennert who was fantastic to my wife and I. Peter was able to answer all of our questions on the test drive and was great to work with during our transaction. He was able to get us top dollar for our 2016 Ford Explorer and provided us with every possible payment solution out there, we loved the options!

Once we signed the dotted line, Tatiana Nunez ( BMW Product Genius) took the time to walk us through all of the car features and gave us her phone number to call her at any time we have questions/concerns.

GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE from the folks at San Rafael BMW, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend buying a BMW from Peter and his team.

Excellent experience with Jessy, Jim, and the team at BMW of San Rafael. By far the best car buying experience I've had. They gave me a great deal with absolutely no headache. They were transparent throughout the process and there were never any surprises, nor any pressure to purchase anything I didn't want. Ricardo, who was working the parts counter at the time, was also kind enough to buy me a soda totally unprompted. Victor was very knowledgeable and did a great job explaining the features of my new car. Can't recommend them more highly.

Gus and the entire staff at BMW San Rafael were kind, welcoming and very easy to work with in buying our two cars within the last 2 months. The price they offered was fair, the extras provided were a surprise and we are extremely pleased with the experience. The best part was their willingness to let us drive any car we wanted - from M3 to B6. Such a thrill to test drive the cars and get the one we felt was the best for us. Gus was always available via text and was at the lot when we needed him. The paperwork was fast, organized and extremely efficient in processing. Definitely, recommend going to this dealership.

Went in to purchase a remote Key fob to mate with ...

Went in to purchase a remote Key fob to mate with my factory E36 alarm. $130 and I'm on my way... I knew I would have to do a "learning" procedure with the new remote to get it to work. I did this really easy and quickly, however the doors wouldn't lock and the siren only gave me chirps. I go back in fishing for clues to troubleshoot and the parts guy gets very short and rude insisting the dealer needs to be the one to mate them and he thought I knew that, then sends me to service dept. I ask the gentleman there simply for advice on possible alarm issues. I am told with a smile that the car needs to be alotted a minimum an hour labor at $170 to work out "electrical gremlins". I knew something was up as they were super eager to get more money out of me and confident it would be fixed while I was there.

I figured because the alarm was reacting with a chirp to the remote fob that I did indeed mate it correctly and it was probably something very simple or stupid that they were trying to extort me over. They refused to help me in any other way. Walked back out to my car, got on my iphone to some BMW forums where I found out the chirp represents a sensor not making contact and it was suggested I check my hood pogo pin. IT WAS AS SIMPLE AS THAT! I shifted/bent the pin to make contact, that was thy problem and the door locks actuated immediately. I know the guys at the dealer knew that was most likely the issue and wouldn't give up the gold in the hopes that I would fold and pay them. They survive on and take advantage of the un-informed un-educated non DIY type owners. So much money can be saved by online research, self troubleshooting/diagnosis and never stepping foot into the dealership unaware of common maintenance and service issues. Peter and Richard R. Runk, Gary, Ken really anyone associated with the Sonnen name are soured con men/women overwhelmed by their personal issues. Thanks for NOTHING SONNEN!

Come to this location and ask to work with Luis if you're considering a BMW lease or purchase in the Bay Area. For my wife and I, this was our first-time car buying experience and Luis made it better than we could've ever imagined. He listened to and quickly addressed our concerns while ensuring we felt comfortable throughout the process. We had some hiccups with the finance team after our purchase, and while it wasn't his responsibility area, Luis stepped back in when asked and helped us again.

How can you give a felling apart loaner car with short mile span to a customer while you are taking his car for a multiple days work service? Well unless you do not care about the customer.

I cannot believe how horrible the service is here. Good luck getting a hold of anyone on the phone. They won t use the warrantee that they sell you for thousands of dollars, anything to get you to pay for unnecessary diagnostics and then quote you a price that s four times higher than any other BMW service mechanic.

Jonathan Josephs did a fantastic job helping me research, identify and buy a certified pre-owned car for my mother. He was friendly, polite, attentive, and thoughtful, and we really enjoyed spending time with him. He spent extra time sitting with my mother talking through the car differences, explaining the features and functionality, and answering all questions with enthusiasm and detail. As we narrowed down our search, he proactively pulled out two cars from a large batch that seemed a good fit, and one of those just nailed it. The overall process was concise, informative, efficient, and enjoyable.

The car we chose is beautiful and in like-new condition. I highly recommend exploring BMW of San Rafael if you're looking for either a new or pre-owned car, and I will actively refer friends and family to Jonathan Josephs for sales assistance.

Few years ago, I bought a brand spanking new Z4 Roadster from Sonnen BMW. I traded in my old 328i with them. Few days later, I realized I had paid for the registration on my OLD car (the one I traded in) way before its due date. In other words, I paid for vehicle registration on the car that they now owned. I contacted Mark Blackshere, who told me he was the owner/manager of Sonnen. I politely asked him if he could refund me the vehicle registration (since the car was in their ownership), and he declined. I then asked him if we could split the cost, since they profitted from having sold me a new car. I was shocked when he made a snide remark, "It's all about you, isn't it?" I asked him what he meant by that, and he told me to "go look in the mirror." I was really really in shock from the way he insulted me like that and talked down to me as a brand new customer who had just made a purchase. When I said to him that I was trying to be RESPONSIBLE by paying for the registration EARLY before its due date (on a vehicle that they now own), it back fired on me. He negated my statement by saying to me that paying EARLY for something doesn't constitute to being RESPONSIBLE. Let me ask you this, Mark Blackshere, if paying early doesn't equate to being responsible, then paying late does? Why were you so arrogant and nasty to someone who brought business to your establishment? If Mark didn't agree with my request, or just couldn't accommodate me, why didn't he just politely say no, and let us end on a good note. But instead, he belittled me and talked to me like I was a spoiled brat. After that, I decided to forget about him because my mother was going through cancer, and she was close to dying. The bottom line is this:I was a new customer who asked him for a break. Instead of treasuring me as a new client, he insulted me and acted like he was bigger and better than me.

I am delighted with my recent automobile purchase experience at BMW of San Rafael. I purchased a 2019 BMW 430i and cannot have been more pleased with the pleasant manner, professionalism and results of my visit to that dealership. At all times my salesman Luis Chinchilla was attentive, patient, responsive and generous in our dealings and interactions.I was subjected to courtesy and no pressuring whatsoever. Luis let me borrow the car that interested me for the day and gave me every chance do test drive alternate vehicles. The price that we negotiated was fair and the pruchase process quick and smooth. After the sale I was treated like a king by the service staff. I most highly recommend this dealership and this salesperson.

Recently, my wife and I saw a 2002 Highlander for sale at the BMW dealer in San Raphael Ca. Low mileage, great condition, but a few door dings, small tears in vinyl on side of drivers seat, some scratches on the bumper, and worn out rear door checks. Before we made an offer the salesman, Chip Rutan, told us that they had excellent technicians that would repair all of the above if we bought the car. We agreed upon a price and gave them a week to do the repairs.Everything looked great when we picked it up. The vehicle was spotless and all of the repairs that they said would be done seemed to be done. Unfortunately two days later the rip in the seat came back. We brought the car back to BMW. Chip agreed with us that the repair of the ripped seat was indeed not repaired properly, and he asked me to get a quote from an upholstery shop that he recommended and that BMW would reimburse us after the repairs were made- a job now done well.
This is an older car and it makes it even more impressive that they wanted to make sure we were satisfied.

I was a serious buyer and knew exactly which model I wanted, but instead of going through the options, etc the salesman didn't take me seriously and thought it would be better if I built my own on the BMW website by myself instead of going through the options in person. I got the feeling that the salesman thought I was wasting his time.

Well their loss, as I went to another dealer and purchased a car 6 days later.

Finally a dealer who knows there stuff and treats you as a person.
I visit several car dealers in the Bay Area for an Electrical Vehicle, said part was that they didn t know nothing about the car and where only pushing me to buy.
At BMW of San Rafael it was the opposite. Bruce Marks who helped me knew everything about the i3 where I was interested in. He asked me even if I want to test the car for two days without any obligation, what I did later that week.

This all made me decide to buy my first new BWM here at BWM of San Rafael.

The price is good but the customer service is terrible. The salesman needs to understand that if a client is interested in a BMW, the information and service about the product must be the best. Before to buy a new car in this place is important to think if you want to have good price or good customer service. I prefer both but if I had to choose, I would choose GOOD SERVICE. I purchased my car in another BMW dealer because of the great customer service.

Kudos to the BMW Genius team and Parts team!
I bought my BMW of X3 M40i at this dealership. I could not be happier with the car. The process was smooth, walked in the morning empty handed, came out in the afternoon with a car.
Now I go to this dealership every so often to either buy parts or for an event (e.g. M-town, etc).
Special kudos goes to Artem M. and Rommel F. from the Genius team, they always greet me by name and are up for a quick chat.
Same for Tommy R. and Ken G. from parts. Well informed and ready to help. Tommy is from Peru just like me!
Finally, special mention to Jackie at the cash register.

Note: I cannot comment on the service side of this dealership since I live in SF and coming here for service is too far.

I had a great experience working with Rob with BMW of San Rafael. My wife and I found a pre-owned vehicle that they had on their lot, and we slowly made contact w/ Rob and developed a rapport. Within a few days I felt like I could trust him enough to fly up to the area to buy the car I wanted, and drive it back down to Southern California. The experience was smooth, as he set expectations correctly and helped us plan our trip accordingly. We had an incredible experience, as he basically sold us a car without us ever seeing it or driving it until we actually got up to the Bay area. Not an easy feat, to be honest, but we are glad we took the leap of faith w/ Rob McCuskey. Thanks Rob for everything!

I called for an appointment to have several things...

I called for an appointment to have several things done, and was immediately asked if I would like a loaner car. What a great way to start the process! I needed a warranty issue addressed, a service appointment, and two tires and an alignment. I picked up the loaner at 1:00pm on Monday, and returned it 24 hours later. My car was washed and all systems go.

DO NOT HAVE YOUR VEHICLE SERVICED HERE!! I cannot emphasize that enough. Unless you like incompetence, arrogance, poor customer service, and a complete lack of communication and follow-up, take your BMW elsewhere. I have had 3 experiences with them servicing my X5 and each time was worse than the last.

The first time, my oil change took ALL DAY and the shuttle it was actually just a guy in a 3-series was late picking me up even though I told them I needed to be back in time to pick up my son from daycare, and he packed 5 other people in the car during his route which was illegal! A little girl didn t even have a seat belt to use and had to sit on he mother s lap! I informed the manager who made it clear he couldn t care less.
At the next oil change my service advisor swore it would only take two hours. 4 hours later and I had to leave multiple messages before I could get a call back and the shuttle driver was late AGAIN.

The last and final time was for a couple new tires. I made the appointment days in advance, dropped the car off at 11am and was told it would be ready before 4pm. At 4:45pm I finally got a call saying that they didn t have my tires in stock!! Even with days of notice, no one bothered to see if they had the product in stock! My car sat there for 5 hours and no one bothered to check. Furthermore, I needed a loaner since they had taken the old tires off and all the service people had gone home, and they didn t want to give me one! I had to raise hell before a manager finally gave me a loaner. When I complained about the situation, management was nonchalant and totally condescending.

Next time, I will take my BMW to Concord or Santa Rosa. Its inconvenient for me but I will NEVER deal with these arrogant, incompetent morons again and I suggest you do the same!

Bought our second BMW from Jim Leavitt who is outstanding at BMW of San Rafael. Both transactions were very easy - Jim is easy to do business with, and does exceptional deals for his customers. We've both bought a car from the lot and done a European delivery - Jim handled both with aplomb.

Jim was able to match (and beat) deals from other dealers in the Bay Area. He is very clear about pricing and transactions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend buying a BMW from Jim Leavitt at BMW of San Rafael, in fact I'd go out of my way to recommend him.

I drove off the lot in a 328i fully loaded (well, 90%) today. I leased from a guy named Jessy Custodio. The whole experience was no--nonsense, efficient, knowledgeable and gave me a great price. I trust Jessy gave me a good deal and I appreciate his advice throughout the process. Highly recommend Jessy if you're looking for a BMW in the north bay.

We had a great experience overall - I contacted several NorCal BMW dealerships when I started the process and Bruce from San Rafael was not only the most responsive, but also the most reasonable in terms of the quotes I received. They will try to con you. Don t bring your car to be serviced here, they will try to charge you for services that they never completed. I cannot believe this level of incompetency could come from a BMW dealership.

I really enjoyed the whole car buying experience with Luis. He was very professional and easy to work with. I did not feel like I was being pressured to finalize a sale at any point. He even let me take the car when I wanted to grab lunch. I would definitely recommend a family member or friend go to him for their next car purchase!

Stopped by this dealership and they didn't have one in stock but the salesman there went and searched for the exact one I was looking for and when they got a hold of the 335i I wanted in black he reached out to me. Well why wouldn't the place be excellent or very good n the dealership nice n fancy...when the cars in this place go from 50,000 to upwards of 150,000 u better get good service n treated like visiting royalty...if you can afford this place n it can be affordable I would say u should get very good service n satisfaction...it's expected n spending money here shows that those who say money doesn't buy happiness....... JUST
DONT KNOW WHERE TO SHOP!!!!

Bought a 2014 CPO 535d and LOVED IT !!!!!!!!!. Car was Clean and detailed to a level that it made me think its a new car until I looked at the Odometer. Good Dealership, great service. They arranged me a Pick-up at Airport as I was flying from San Diego. You can ask for Salesperson Bruce Disbury - Good Salesman, very Professional and to the point. You should seriously consider this dealership, they are good !

Kyle Gray sales rep is an amazing person who goes way beyond great sales and knowledge. He helped me with every aspect of my new BMW i3 including some surprising unusual issues that were not in his department. He cares authentically for client.
He went out of his way, hours of his time, to help me with the process. He even showed up with paperwork at my office to save me time and stress. His efforts alone has made me a lifetime client of BMW of San Rafael.

Luis provided the BEST EXPERIENCE I have ever had at a car dealership! We lucked out by him answering the phone when I called to inquire about a car. He was incredibly efficient, and provided above and beyond customer service. He got us in and out of the dealership in an hour and a half which is unheard of. I will never go anywhere else. The worst service department!

The worst service department!
Beyond dishonest, terrible mechanics and incredibly rude service manager.
Brett Zoss called me crazy to my face (service manager). In my lifetime have I ever dealt with such unprofessional baffons.
They waited until my warranty had expired to diagnose an issue with my vehicle, I had brought the car in several times for this issue. They diagnosed the issue as carbon build up in the motor and a faulty spark plug. My daughter did not believe them, so she brought my car to a German specialist. He said, no carbon build up and no spark plug needs to be changed (they are trying to rip you off).
Not going to say what the diagnoses was, as I'm bringing the head manager in ( Mr Garcia) from sujits and the bureau of automotive repair (again).
DO NOT TRUST THIS DEALERSHIP
They try to pad bills (big time). I thank my daughter for looking out for me, and having my best interest (she was 100% right about them).
It's time to clean up shop "Sujits Corporation"!!! The firing squad needs to be called in.

Extremely pleased with my recent purchase at BMW of San Rafael, Peter was a rockstar and got me a great deal. I called Peter to confirm if a specific car listed online was still on site, and after arranging to come by for a test drive, I showed up a little later than I had scheduled. But Peter was very accommodating and had me covered, and I got a test drive with no delay. He was very flexible with my schedule in regards to time of purchase, which made the whole process very easy going and not rushed or stressful. Shaun and Tatiana were both super friendly as well. Very professional office and all around positive experience, certainly seems like they've streamlined their whole process for customer experience at this dealership; I was never waiting around or ignored. Would highly recommend to others interested in buying a BMW!
