The environment of this place severely inhibits the relaxation and meditation that people normally seek from hot yoga practice. The room is brightly lit with fluorescent lights and the floor is made of some strange material that seemed to absorb sweat and stick to everything. The instructor stood on a pedestal the entire class with an earpiece microphone to intensify her already loud and obnoxious voice. She rattled off the postures just like an auctioneer, and was often very hard to understand as she trailed off her sentences with mumbled jibberish (JUST like an auctioneer!) Being new to the place (but NOT to hot yoga), she called me out quite frequently in front of the entire class on her microphone, which was not helpful at all. She also reprimanded me in the middle of class for drinking water "in the middle of a pose" and said I had to wait until everybody was done with the pose so that I "wouldn't steal the energy away from my classmates". At the beginning of class, she forewarned me that I would not be allowed to leave until the class was over, even if I was not feeling well. As a Registered Nurse, I think it's important to take care of and listen to your body, no matter what the "etiquette" may be. I should have just walked out in the middle of class, but ended up staying for the entire 90 minutes to give this place a chance. I don't know how anybody can relax and enjoy their practice at this place, I will definitely not be returning.
