Hi Hue,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my review, which I wrote after visiting your Docklands store.
There are a number of statements in the response that are incorrect or misleading, so I wanted to take the time to respond.
Firstly, as stated, I fully understand the rules of warranty and how my product was outside of these terms, so let me explain my reasoning behind contacting your store. The Shimano product I owned failed in such a spectacular manner, that it could have caused catastrophic injury. The way in which it failed was so unusual, and any person with background knowledge of cycling components would agree.
Following my visit to your store, I emailed Shimano, who quickly agreed to an out-of-warranty replacement due to the unusual and unsafe nature of the failure. This communication was agreeable for both parties; I now run a brand new R8000 crankset, and will purchase Shimano again in the future in part due to their fantastic customer approach and centricity.
Regarding my review, this was nothing to do with the details of my warranty, so I feel it is unfair for you to state this in your response, in an effort to discredit my review. I have the original receipt for my bike, which was purchased from your Richmond store a number of years ago. The day before the above review I had phoned the store and spoke to a a helpful woman, who I believe is the owner. She had listened to my concern and asked me to come into the store to be assisted by the team. Just for clarity, she understood that it was outside of warranty, and that I was not the original purchaser, and still told me that you may be able to help.
On visiting the store I politely explained the issue, as I had done with the lady on the phone, and as I did with Shimano over email. In response I was immediately told that there was nothing they could do. The tone they used was derogatory, as if I was not worth their time. They told me that the store was no longer called Bike Force Docklands, even though the sign on the door read 'Bike Force Docklands'. They also told me that they were closed the day before, insinuating that I was lying about my phone call. I believe it was a public holiday the day before, and the phone call was forwarded to the lady in question. In all honesty, I hadn't expected a full warranty replacement from your store, what I had expected was due respect, and perhaps for your team to see the value in me as a customer, and to attempt to find a result. This could have been in a discount on a new product from your store, or at the very least some attempt to understand and please.
I don't usually leave reviews, and I feel the plight of local bike shops in the shadow of online retailers. This experience, however, highlights to me how the lack of customer focus at local bike shops will be their fatal detriment. On entering local bike shops, I often feel overlooked or looked down upon, due to my age. What your store is missing, however, is that your younger customers often turn into older (higher income) customers. They will not, however, be shopping at your store!
I will edit my review with the content of this email, as I do not agree with your gaslighting of my honest review.
Regards,
Edward Williams
