Big Sandy Lodge & Resort Review

Used the hot tub and atevl the lunch special, all super good!

This resort is a beautiful resort but the staff, including the managers, makes this a terrible place to stay. I would not recommend staying here. The front desk lady is rude, never says hello and spends a majority of her time standing outide smoking her e-cig. We rented a boat and the whole time we were on it we, the motor did not operate forcing us to go a max of 5 mph. When we got back, the deck crew told us to go to the front desk and ask for our money back. When we did, the front desk and told us that the we needed to speak with the lodge manager. We did, he said that that this is normal with new boats and to not expect to go over 11 mph. He stated that people take them out all the time and there are never any issues, even though we were there for 4 days already and not once did we see some take the boats out. We said we weren't paying he wanted to give us a credit for our next rental instead. We said "no" and he continued to try to push it on us. This place is not customer focused and SHOULD NOT be in the hospitality industry and present image of a Westin and give Super 8 motel service.

Amazing staff and an amazing experience. Great food and comfortable accommodations. Highly recommend staying at Big Sandy lodge for family time or just a getaway.

Room was tiny, felt like sleeping in the bedroom of someone s house. Bed felt really cheap, AC barely worked but room was so hot when we got in there it never really cooled down. Our room was right about the bar with a Live Band playing. It said on our bedroom door that we knew it would be loud when we made reservations. We know for a fact that wasn t the case! We drove 3hrs there with a boat because we were told plenty of room at the dock and it was full. We didn t even stay the night. We drove the 3hrs back home in the middle of the night. Horrible way to spend your anniversary!!

Big Sandy Lodge is one of our favorite places to eat when at our cabin near there. A variety of food and drink options with quick service. We have had sandwiches and appetizers. The nacho platter is our favorite; it's HUGE. Cheese curds were disappointing. The scenery is beautiful with a casual atmosphere and kid friendly.

Their rooms are dirty they have no dresser drawers they have 5 hangers to hang things on their hallways are dirty their so-called breakfast yogurt pastry that's been sitting out for days Frozen burrito and coffee and milk I wouldn't call that a breakfast the toilet broke they said well you have to wait till whenever maintenance comes in and if I wanted to use the bathroom I had to go all the way downstairs and use the bathroom downstairs I think that's bullcrap

Pretty good food, but we were warned upon ordering drinks that food could take 30 minutes. This was at 8:00pm with maybe a half-filled house. Food came in about that time, but our waitress gave me the wrong fries and wasn't interested in giving us more drinks. Other wait staff were unfriendly as we walked around the building. Hopefully next time the staff is more welcoming.

It's a great place to stay but not for overnight. Ar stayed overnight on our way to Voyageurs NP. They didn't have any breakfast or even the restaurant wouldn't serve. Very disappointed.

excellent Facility. The Rental Townhouses are great clean. The restaurant food was very ell priced and had a real nice selection. we will be coming back and I plan on telling people how great it was

Almost no vegetarian options and they also weren't willing to do modifications to menu options. I ended up with a $12 berry salad.. not ideal and pretty pricey! I did like the patio and the view of the lake :)

My family and I had a great week here. Staff and management was great. Will definitely return.

Excellent and affordable food. Great service even when slammed. DJ was super- attentive!

Didn't get served when we were outside on the deck we had to go to the bar.

The view is beautiful, but the entrees needs some improvements. Hoping my next visit will be better.

Great area and beautiful lake. Everything was so well maintained.

Me and a couple friends felt like coming in to get some food and we sat and waited for over half an hour without being helped. I m very disappointed in the service here, many workers made eye-contact with us. Keep in mind we didn t have drinks or anything on our table and just kept walking by without saying anything. So instead we went to zorbaz and actually got great service. Place is terrible. Would not reccomend!

We hit the restaurant. The Waite staff was awesome and the food did not disappoint! We really liked it!

Entering the lodge and resort, I was impressed. The chairs were comfortable and the service was friendly.

Lodge was clean, everything was well stocked and kept in its place and the employees were friendly

Been sitting here for an hour and a half and still haven't received our food. The service is absolutely terrible. Our wait staff is very nice but they are extremely disorganized.

Very nice resort. Grill and bar. Food was pretty good. Cabins and rooms available, with reservation.

Not sure if the resort put it on, but the fireworks display was underwhelming

Big Sandy has made quite lot of headway the last few years. It's one of our favorite spots to go when we're at the cabin. We also love how accommodating they are to families with little ones.

Great Villa that are cozy and can sleep a lot of people. Resort has options that allow you to rent most anything you can think of. Close to the great Minnesota national course

Very nice place and caring kind hepful waitress for our fathers day break for my father, myself, and my 3 houng boys from being on the lake! They have boat docking with staff to assist too.

Great place to stay. Great food and golf right down the street

Big Sandy Lodge is picturesque of a northern Minnesota resort. A beautiful, clean lake with a well groomed beach, luxurious rooms and plenty to do! It's very relaxing, and the staff was professional and courteous. Immaculate rooms that are beautifully decorated and decent food to boot!

Customer service there is terrible and the food has much to be desired

Stopped on a Tuesday evening for dinner eith out of town guests. There was only 1 waitress working, and there were quite a few customers in the restaurant and on the deck. Food was good, as aleays, but the waitress forgot to in the order for our 3 year old. Food was brought to the rest of our table and were told thepizza a would be out in just a few minutes. We all shared our food with the 3 yo while waiting for the pizza, that came over 15 minutes later, after all of our plates had been cleared from the table. The waitress kept apologizing all through dinner for being slow since she was the only one working.

The cabins are phenomenal! Great condition, VERY clean. The lodge rooms are cozy and cute. The staff is extremely accommodating and very kind. Very well kept beach area, awesome outdoor seating at the lodge bar/restaurant. Would highly recommend!

We checked in at 5-6 pm on sat March 18. Put our stuff in the room then left for a few hours. When we got back our room was unlocked and the door was open. Went to front desk to tell them the situation and they said that the person working earlier accidentally gave some guests who checked in after us the wrong key. I didn't fell safe staying there at this point being our privacy had been invaded and our valuables out for the taking. But it was late and didn't have a choice being so far I from home. Igot the general managers (Josh) number and Called him the following Monday. He apologized and that was about it. He offered us dinner next time we are up there. However we are never in that area so that does us no good. I would have liked our room refunded for this inconvenience which I asked for but he declined. Worst experience in my life with a hotel. Will not be going back

Really enjoyed our short 1-night stay here. We took advantage of an off-season discounted room rate and drove up for the day with friends. Ate dinner at the resort (highly recommend the prime rib). Swam, hit the hot tub and sauna and after a "Loon" omelet for breakfast we hit the road back home. Excellent service overall, wonderful food with fair prices.

Room was large and clean. Service was great and food in the dinner tasted good. Pool is a bit on the cold side.

Beautiful lodge and area. People were very nice. Rooms comfortable. Lake was really nice, we enjoyed renting a boat and touring the lake.

My favorite place on big sandy. The whole family loves stopping here for food and drinks when were out on the lake.

The resort is amazing food was alright service was really poor one person at our table didn't get their meal served to them until after everyone was already finished eating.

It's what you expect in a nice hotel, restaurant & lounge area....

This restaurant and Lodge reminds me of the movie Dirty Dancing except I am not sure if there is a secret place where people are practicing dancing (I am still looking)! Although when they have live bands and Dj's there is plenty of dancing, laughter & fun! It is such a great escape! Nice people everywhere, amazing food & service! The beach is so fun to take the kids swimming with the giant water trampoline, boat rentals and much more that you can rent! My kids really like that there is an indoor pool & workout room for days when the weather outside doesn't cooperate! It is also the perfect place to have weddings, reunions, get a ways etc... Also if that isn't enough you can go over to the golf course and even be transported around if you have had a few cocktails and don't want to deal with the hassle of driving! The Lodging is absolutely beautiful and again fun fun fun! I was also impressed with their gift shop they had super cute clothes and while I am shopping my husband loves to fish on the lakes because of the nice sized walleyes & crappies he catches! When we go out on our journey on the beautiful lake with the family some days we have so much fun we spend the entire day on the lake and we will call and order food to go, pick it up and head back out on the lake again. It is a whole new world and you definitely do not want to leave once you come!

Spent the weekend in Townhouse C. If your a golfer and have a group it's worth the money. Restaurant at the main Lodge is quite good. Seems very popular for lunch. That being said we didn't have a long wait for food. All in all an excellent get away.

Food ok, but inexperienced server forgot us (Memorial Day weekend dinner). We waited 45 minutes before we could place our order, which only happened because my friend went to the server's station to say we were ready. Previously we could see our server in the back playing on his phone. He openly admitted he forgot us. Kitchen took another 45 minutes to make pasta and sandwiches for us despite other tables who ordered after us getting their food first. We ate quickly due to being hungry from the wait and were ready to go.

Maybe service would be better later in the summer once staff have more experience and better training as it seemed to be a training problem rather than a server problem. We saw other problems with servers not knowing how to split bills, what all an entree included, table layouts, and the restaurant's schedule. Wouldn't recommend early in tourist season.

I came this time just for the dining. I was very impress with the quality of food. But the service was bad as it gets. They didn't tell us the specials They are sitting there talking about nothing to do, we need drinks and wanted to add to our order. Bar tender walking around talking but not making sure people being served. I had to ask for my credit card to be run to pay the bill. This is the third time I have been here. The waitresses are horrible and don't take care your guest!!!

We only stopped here for dinner! I thought the food was fantastic but we waited almost an hour for dinner which was a little crazy but they did warn Us in advance that it might be a wait so I'm not going to let that detract from their stars because the staff was awesome they took good care of us and the food was hot and good plus you cannot be the view it is one of the best I have ever seen!!!!!

Great summer spot on the lake. The resort is very touristy, and plan to spend extra money unless to you plan to cook everything yourself. The lake and cabins are wonderful, but very built up. If you're looking for a quiet weekend in the woods this is probably not your place, worth it to go to a different resort place a half hour north to get away from the crowds.

100% recommend this place. After staying this winter our summer vacation was booked before left.

I had so much fun here!! We had a hell of storm that night and this was one of the few places that had power. They made sure they had plenty of help to take care of all the people that came. The food was pretty good. It great but still good. When we come back to the area next year we will come back.

Most clean and modern choice on the lake , good food and drinks.

Enjoyed a delicious breakfast on the holiday weekend two days in a row. Both experiences were fantastic. The service was impeccable. They were they were not only busy due to the holiday but also due to other local restaurants being closed due to a power outage. The server's handled it perfectly I never showing their stress. They were even running to accommodate everyone promptly.

This is the first time I've ever written a review on Google, but I think it is important for me to do so. I've never actually stayed at this hotel. Why review it then you ask? I made a reservation for the weekend of September 14th. I cancelled the reservation in plenty of time, however, I was still charged for one night's stay. Initially when I called they couldn't find the reservation at all, and then they said they found it but needed to figure out "what happened." So, a few days later, voila, I get the money back in my account.

I happen to be someone who checks my account constantly, for those of you who do not, I highly recommend doing so or else things like this can happen. On 9/23 I had another charge from the same place for the same amount, $115.37. Two days after my initial complaint, someone finally responded to me. Their auditor was coming in the next day and they would "figure out what happened.' Turns out, they couldn't find the charge this time either. So now, I'm scrambling while overseas to try to get them the paper work they need to fix their problem.

I have no idea about the quality of accomdations at this hotel. I never will either.

Breakfast is inexpensive, but they offer great breakfast classics. The view and service of the bar is also superb. Prepare for a large meal because that is what they serve.

Beautiful area, however until I am able to find a 24 hr store of any type to buy smokes from at midnight this whole area of mn can screw off.

Looked very fancy. Gift shop was a few racks for shirts. Their off sale drinks they didn't have enough for the resort so we couldn't purchase any.

Absolutely beautiful place. Been up there a few times now and its worth it to go. Check it out.

Worst dinner ever. Fish tasted like cardboard, chicken you could not cut, salad smelled like it was from last weeks. Not much to say about the food at all, maybe the cook was to tired by 9pm, they really dropped the ball on our meal. If you stay at this resort find a different place to eat. Complained to the manager all he could say was sorry I will tell the kitchen and offered $10 discount on a $300 bill, wow thanks. We left most of the food on the table, never coming back.

Nice deck area to sit out on during the summer, very relaxing. The service was great and the food was yummy.

We usually stop for a drink and an app on the patio. Was so hot we sat inside and had a nice break from the heat! Enjoyed The Lodge as always!

Service can be slow, but if you aren't in a rush they have good food and great views!
