Isaac's Cafe is located on the grounds of the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest. It's is a great place for a cup of coffee or a light lunch after a hike. There is a nice gift shop bookstore in the same facility. Trail maps and information are also available.

Love their service and food. They always have some weekend specials. They also provide lemonade and sweet/non sweet tea. The chips and ice cream are yummy!! The most important of all is the price is very friendly. Plus the dining area is very clean.
Affordable, relaxing, off the beaten path. Convenient stop for folks following The Bourbon Trail to or from Bardstown. Soup and half sandwich is the primary fare. If you re not from the area try an Ale81 soda. Closes at 4pm.
Kale slaw, potato soup, and ham sandwich is real good. Packed with flavor and fresh. Great place to sit and take in the nature after a long hike or two.
What a pleasant surprise! The usual thought is that food at a park must be junk. Especially now that my daughter and me have been eating healthy and no processed food. But HOLD THE PHONE! The food was excellent!!!! Homemade soup and delicious homemade chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches. They must have somebody's grandmother back in the kitchen! Someone who actually cares about what they're serving you! Heck my wife and I are thinking about having another lunch date at Isaac's at Bernheim Forest. It's not a quick trip for us from J-Town, so what I mean is that it's that good! You gotta see the Forest Giants too. Oh, and of course HAVE LUNCH AT ISAAC'S!!!!!!
The food is very good and locally sourced. The customer services, however, is not good. On my first visit, We had to wait and make an effort to get someone's attention to be served. Staff seem to go out of their way to avoid customers and not make eye contact. Staff stayed in the back and did not take the time to look for customers. On my second visit, they had changed their hours for the winter. the large sign posted at the entrance of the forest said they closed at 4pm when they actually closed at 3pm. They made no effort to communicate this change and took no responsibility for the confusion and contradiction when I was finally able to speak to someone. ( I made them aware that the hours were incorrect when you Google the cafe and the staff said "I can't control Google". I submitted the change in hours while I was standing there.) The rating would be lower if the food wasn't so good. They really need to improve their customer service.
I go to Isaac's any chance I get! The food is great and everyone is always so nice. It's a great place to go to get away from the busy city. You have to try the nutty bird sandwich!
No visit to Bernheim Forest would be complete without starting here first. Tasty, seasonal eating with produce from their own garden. Lots of vegetarian options too.
If you're spending the day at Bernheim or even a few hours, definitely stop by the Visitor Center to eat at Isaac's Cafe! Great food selection with some regular menu items and daily specials! All the veggies are fresh and grown right at Bernheim! Indoor and outdoor seating and a great way to take a break if you're out visiting Bernheim forest!
Food served is grown in their own garden. After lunch you can choose to hike the many trails in Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest where the cafe is located.
The food is delicious and unique, the staff are friendly and helpful. I asked for a recipe from a sandwich I'd eaten on a previous visit and they printed it up and brought it out to me. How fabulous!! I am sure the arboretum is great, I've only ever gone to eat at Isaac's.
A nice, affordable cafe tucked into the woods of Bernheim Research Forest. There's a great patio facing the woods, and it's just all around a great place!
As members of Bernheim we have visited Isaac's Cafe many many times and have never been disappointed! My personal all time favorite was the Chicken Salad sandwich but with the new addition of the ChickPea Salad Sandwich (pictured)... I'm having a hard time choosing a favorite. I'm somewhat of a picky eater and the menu made me a little nervous upon first visit but Isaac's has broadened my horizons and I have never had anything I do not like. Today I am enjoying the ChickPea Salad Sandwich, Cup of Tomato Basil soup and kettle chips which are all hitting the spot. My husband's favorite was the Nutty Bird sandwich until the ChickPea came along as well. Its a winner on all fronts!
On a closing note, we live 20 minutes away but still find the urge and time to drive out here even if just for food and not hiking around Bernheim. I highly recommend!
Very good sandwiches, variety of breads and very fresh. A little on the expensive side. 7.95 for sandwich and chips , but the environment and the setting is worth it.
My smoked turkey and swiss was amazing. Everything served is made from local ingredients, including the meat, and so tasty. The atmosphere is peaceful and woodsy.
I go here to study before heading out on a trail or 2 on certain evening. WiFi is free, foods a bit pricey though (makes sense for being inside Bernheim since it's not a standard diner). It's located in the visitor center next to the gift shop.
Great food at a great place. Everything we ate tasted so fresh, AND they have a gluten free wrap option for the sandwiches which they grill. The Rattler is my recommendation, because it's served with a generous portion of ham and tastey pickles (which I didn't think I'd like but I was wrong). Added bonus: you can roam the Berheim gift shop while your wait. Bonus 2: They only sell boxed water to help cut back on plastics.
This place truly deserved five stars. Great food, atmosphere and service. I had the Ratler Sandwich, absolutely fantastic! Their sweet, unsweetened and lemonade mixed together is awesome. Beautiful location.
Isaac's Cafe is a part of the main visitors center in Bernheim. It is not a stand alone structure but is in the same large building that houses the information desk, public restrooms, plant shop, and gift shop.
This is a cafe in the Bernheim Forest visitor center. The food was great, but the sandwiches were a little pricey as they came with no sides and drinks are extra. The service was just OK as one of the two attendant interrupted our order twice to tend to a friend outside of the restaurant.
