Friendly and welcoming staff, location is perfect just 20 min from Pebble Beach and Monterey and amazing food in the hotel. Living accommodations were gorgeous, private, and quiet; love that guests can borrow a Mercedes GLS 450 or Mercedes SL 550 for the day and complimentary bottle of sauvignon blanc and lots of yummy snacks that come with your stay. The view from your room / anywhere you were in the hotel was exceptional. Bernardus was the BEST experience I've ever had at any hotel and definitely makes me want to come back.

Massage therapisy are ok nothing too great for the price charge, but the spa part like steamroom, sauna, and swimming pools are nice. If I go back I only go to enjoy this part, but not massage.
First time here...Beautiful & Relaxing resort... Friendly staff...Good food & Drinks...Enjoyed the Complimentary Mercedes Benz vehicle for personal use...I definitely will be back...
Wow. This lodge and spa is incredible. Fireplaces everywhere. Food is awesome. Heated bathroom floors. Nice and expensive. Probably be back next year to explore more of the Big Sur area.
Very stylish but incredibly comfortable room with warm and sunny south facing individual patios. The free wine in the room is excellent too (mind you, I'm can't think of a time when free wine hasn't been excellent). The food in the restaurant is fresh and modern without being fussy. A buffet breakfast option would be nice but otherwise, can't fault the place. To top it all off, a set of keys to a Mercedes SL550 to 'test drive' for a couple of hours. The mind boggles!
We didn't stick around for dessert. The meal highlight was the wine - they didn't make it.
The wait staff employ some sort of "zone defence" strategy. We weren't sure who we were dealing with, or who was responsible for not filling our wine glasses or not returning with our bread. I guess I can't blame them as the place appeared to be packed with regulars who they know will probably tip well - why bother giving quality service to an unknown couple from out of town when an easy mark is at the next table.
That brings me to the best part of our experience. The people watching. I recommend you sit at the big slab table to get the best view. This place attracts a very specific crowd of 'old rich' boomers and their kids (now in their thirties, but emotionally equivalent to a normal preteen). Imagine Carlton if he had never received the world-expanding influence of the Fresh Prince - but make him white. Listening to them contemplate the wine list is an experience everyone visiting lovely Carmel should be loath to miss.
The place is terrible. My theory is that its popularity with the locals is similar to a local dive bar. The beer is skunky, the bartender has a big scab on his neck and the glassware isn't super clean, but it is familiar and all your friends from the neighbourhood hang out there for a drink. You look past the fact that you can do MUCH better because you are surrounded by your people. But if you are just visiting town, what is the appeal of a rundown bar in a strip mall?
There are a hundred better choices in the Carmel area. Avoid this place.
Gorgeous and opulent vineyard resort in the heart of Carmel Valley. We had an amazing stay for a birthday getaway weekend and wow. Our suite was just stunning, two fireplaces, huge four poster bed, beautifully furnished outdoor patio area with firepit. And the bathroom was a dream with warmed tiles, hand-cut custom soap, and lux to spare. Huge and handsome copper tub and count em, four showers. A wide open dual shower, a rain shower head up on the ceiling 12ft above... and my favorite, the *outdoor* shower in the fully enclosed private outdoor bathroom patio! Gigantic double doors open the bathroom up to this teak-furnished totally-private outdoor space. It was incredible.
The pool was the perfect temp, around 80 or so, and we spent a lot of time there. The restaurant Lucia was top notch for both a fine dinner and breakfasts. Wine choices were of course fantastic and mostly local, including the wines made by Bernardus themselves, from vines right there between the rooms. For us, their various chardonnays stood out and of course the flagship red, Marinus was superb.
If you want a truly deluxe Carmel Valley getaway, you absolutely cannot go wrong with Bernardus Lodge.
Absolutely gorgeous setting. The rooms are superb with a cozy feel to them. The staff are nothing short of friendly and courteous. The design and lay out are architectural masterpieces and around every corner is a fire with seating to accommodate four or more. They are pet friendly. We have a wonderful experience and I will return in a month. I have stayed here several times, and would encourage anyone to visit and I am sure you ll enjoy every minute spent here.
I went to a wedding here and it felt like something lifted from a movie. It was a great venue and the staff was great as well. I also attended a brunch here and be food was very solid.
Truly an amazing stay. The atmosphere and the impeccable customer service will bring me back soon. Everything is so clean. The hospitality crew make you feel so special and are so extremely attentive. Not many hotels keep that level of perfection. The food is delicious and the pool area is great too!
We stayed for two nights with our 8-month old son. Liked the amenities and the location very much. The staff was nice to accommodate our requests by providing a high chair and a play yard in the room and also move some furniture to make space for our little one to move around. But we were quite disappointed with the house keeping especially the cleanliness of the room. There was dust everywhere on the floor and furniture and despite asking them to mop the floor they left so many spaces as is. Also if you are a vegetarian, there are very limited choices for in room dining. After thrice eating the pizza we had to do take out from nearby restaurants. Wish they had more vegetarian options for all their meals.
Amazing facility with fantastic food and beverage. Far enough from Carmel-by-the-Sea to feel like an oasis, but close enough to drop into downtown without a problem.
Such a lovely resort. We had a truly excellent time. The only caveat is my spa massage was very disappointing. In the room, the therapist optioned some add on services. Instead of adding on the services, they deducted time from the actual massage. The massage also started late but the therapist ended at the original time. It wasn t a good experience. I d definitely return to the resort because overall it s great. I d just skip the massage and restaurant at dinner.
Went for a weekend in 2009 and fell in love with the place. Got married there in 2010 and it remains our favorite spot to spend 2 days; no need to leave the premises between the casual restaurant, nicer restaurant, fire pit, bocce, croquet, pool, and spa. Simply the best. Only aspect more impressive than the grounds, the wine, and the food, is the service.
I was here for my birthday weekend. This is one of the most relaxing lodge with thoughtful staffs I have ever stayed with. Will definitely come back again!
My work team recently had a group summit/retreat at Bernardus, including an overnight stay. I'm very pleased w/ the whole experience: tech staff was always present during our use of A/V equipment & helped us resolve glitches; waitstaff during our meals were very solicitous of our food/drink needs; the food itself was tasty, fresh, & beautifully presented; the grounds were stunning w/ all the amazing flowers, herbs, trees & plants; the rooms were spacious, super-clean & thoughtfully appointed; and there was lots of amenities & activities offered by Bernardus for guests, including pool, whirlpool, bocce ball, fitness center, massages, mani/pedi, etc. Unfortunately my group didn't have much time to check out most of those, but some folks squoze it in. And we did get to participate in archery &/or wine-tasting, both great. I now REALLY want to return to Bernardus w/ my husband for a longer (and romantic) stay at this lovely place!
The ambiance is lovely. We went for brunch, and they have a decent selection of dishes, however they are a bit overpriced. Eggs, with bacon and fruit was $16. The service was great, and I'd recommend it I'd you are looking for a nice meal.
We found the staff excellent. We found the food to be excellent. We found the room to be poorly designed, small and the design very tired. We found location very inconvenient. The most irritating observation was the endless fees attached to an already expensive location. Next time, we will go to the coast.
Beautiful hotel and scenic. Perfect weekend getaway with a SO. Not a lot of food options nearby so you will have to basically eat at the hotel. Good food though!
This hotel and spa is absolutely perfect. It's small enough to be intimate, yet large enough to have all the amenities and dining options you need. Alex at the front desk was exceptional; she made sure everything was just as we expected and always available to help. The main restaurant has been revamped - slightly more casual now, but the food is as good as ever. We have been here several times and will keep coming back.
I have been dining here for years, first at Marinus and now its successor Lucia. The staff is extremely nice, the food wonderful. As nice as anything Napa has to offer. I will finally have a chance to spend a night at the hotel; can't wait.
This place is located in a great quiet part of Carmel valley. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, this is a fantastic choice. Lots of wonderful restaurants and activities just a short drive away.
The service and food were both incredible. The grounds are beautiful, from the Rose Garden to the lobby to the lawn bowling. Everything was clean and well attended to, and it all was just the nicest and fanciest place I think I've ever been.
I recently visited the Bernard spa and was having a deep tissue sciatic muscle pain . The front desk staff was extremely accommodating and able to get me in Right away.. I was seen by Britt. He recommended The deep tissue foot massage. It was absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to have deep tissue muscle pain and joint pain relief immediately. I understand there are two people now that do it Brett and Angela. Gina the spa manager and her staff are definitely the top spa on the Monterey Peninsula.
Excellent experience and service, we stayed two nights and brought our little dog, and they were so welcoming and accommodating to our furry family member. Beautiful rooms and great location in carmel
The lobby looked very nice, but the whole resort looked a little bit like an old people's home. The rooms were nicely cleaned and the staff was also very nice. But what really bothered me was the noise insulation, it was practically non existent, you could hear every footstep of the one living above you and that in my opinion is unexceptional!
It was a magical place. Had a massive bathroom with heated floors, a huge living room and beautiful patio. The wine and snacks we're incredible. Only downside was that the fire place didn't work and the staff couldn't figure it out and also there wasn't enough staff for the initial valet.
I don't know who that waitress was in the video but she needs a raise immediately. Make her a manager or something. You will never find a better employee than her... Great time to remember how many of our essential workers still can't afford to see a doctor during a pandemic. #UniversalHealthcare
Amazingly accommodating and wonderfully hospitable staff! Absolutely beautiful location and rooms with all the amenities one could ask for. Can't wait to come back and stay for even longer in the Carmel Valley.
An absolute gem in Carmel Valley. Excellent guest services, spa, the rooms are breath taking.... I could go on. It's truly one of my favorite places to stay ever. It's a smaller property so it's very intimate.
Good food, bit on the pricey side, but you get what you paid for. The scenery is amazing and the staff are always friendly, plus the facilities are good.
Definitely nice rooms. 3, count 'em, 3 fireplaces in the room. The walk-in shower was larger than an entire average hotel room in Paris. No complaints about the room at all. The property itself is just OK, particularly the spa. The men's steam room had a very strong odor of, well, mold, or something not great. The energy of the place was very low...kind of a walking dead type atmosphere. The worst part was the confusion when we were checking out. We had a $400 gift certificate (that put a dent in our $560 room) that we had redeemed when we booked the room, but our bill didn't show the credit. When we inquired, they seemed very perplexed. We had to stand around for about 15 minutes (like chumps) while they figured out their mistake. Not a great way to end a super spend-y day in Carmel Valley. Your mileage may vary. Cheers.
It's so lovely to sit outside for lunch enjoying the Carmel Valley sun . The new salmon "salad" was delish! Service by Jason & Jose was friendly and attentive. Merci.
