I've been here twice now so it is time to leave a review. Bear Pit BBq is what I look for when looking to eat. The Bar-b-q beef back ribs are amazingly delicious, after our waiter Angelia recommended we try them the first time we came in the restaurant we couldn t resist and come back for more!
Its a family owned for many years it seems like, and there sign is a classic look of an old town feel. Employees which can be always happy, excited, and willing to help. You choose from many different sides as you move later on, but be careful, we kinds went overboard on the sides because they are so filling. We tried the Sweet Potato Friend which had well done taste not overdone and friend pretty good to my high standards of eating. They have a modest amount of 10 or more different sides. Then when you're free to the end you can order meat because of the 1/3, 1/2, or total pound. Brisket (lean as well as full fat), chicken, you name it. They'll make it fresh and we had to take a lot of the ribs home with us afterwards because of the filling sides.

Very nice southern food. Ive tried everything from fried chicken to roast beef sandwiches with garlic toast as buns. It has a clean restroom and some cheap mints for after your meal. A great place if you're looking for some southern barbecue, whether you live near or far, its worth a shot.

Somebody recommended this place to me, and said that it is the only BBQ place they will eat at. It was good! The proportions were large, and the meat was tasty and tender. They give you huge pieces of Texas Toast, and everything was all very good. We'll be back!:)

4 stars might be a little generous. They have seceral BBQ sauces for you to put on your food after it was cooked but because of that I guess they don't cook the meet in sauce. Well at least my plate came out with no sauce to be seen.

Great traditional BBQ joint in the valley! Been here forever and my first time here was today. My beef brisket sandwich was a little dry but you add your own sauce which is on the table and it's fine. The sides of potato salad and Mac and cheese were delicious. Garlic toast is very reminiscent of Sizzler's cheese toast and was very tasty. Service was good and we enjoyed the rustic ambiance. Definitely waited too long to come here. Enjoy!

worst restaurant ever. Very racist against Hispanics my husband and I had a big argument with one other customer eating all because my husband cursed on the phone the old lady screamed at my husband so loud I jumped back cause she startled me. Then the man sitting with her started telling us to shut up. We got up and left the place with out even getting our food to our table. From the beginning it was already so uncomfortable because the waitress again being white she did not greet us like she did that old lady and the man sitting with her. Beware of this place if you want to be discriminated against because of your race this is the place.

First time and I really really wanted to like it, but in the end it was underwhelming. My beef and pork ribs were almost too tough to eat. The waitress was very nice and had I not been with my girlfriends father I would have complained. I may give this place another try or not I'm just not sure yet. The place was filling up with patrons and I'm not sure just what that's saying ! I could go on but why beat a dead horse after you just ate it?

I have been going to Bear Pit BBQ since I was a kid. And I have continued to eat their food, even though I live out of the area. So today I ordered rake out for the family. The Bear Pit Special sandwich is a fave of my kids. I get the BBQ chicken. Only today my BBQ chicken is BBQ'd to death. Over cooked and charred. I am very disappointed. Never had a bad meal there before. Makes me wonder if there has been a change in personel and/or owners.

The food was ok, if not for the waitress the experience would have been really bad. Bear pit please add moisture to garlic toast also no boiling the meats then placing on grill. Please authentically grill food. And lastly too much pickling in the cole slaw lay off the pickling juice a bit. Some music in the background wouldve been nice too all in all ok place ..waitresses keep up the hospitality!!

I noticed that after years and years of dining here, that nothing was the same - the food was BAD for the first time ever!
First, the pickles were mushy, then the fries were burnt (seemed like re-fried leftovers - not 1 good French fry on 3 plates) my daughters onion rings were burnt dark brown, and hard. The bbq sauce wasn t the same either . Then came the famous garlic toast for their signature sandwich: it used to melt in your mouth, but today the bread was hard, dry, and basically not the same bread. After complaining to my family for 15 minutes, and saying over and over how nothing was the same, I finally asked the waitress if the restaurant s ownership had changed. She reluctantly admitted that the restaurant had recently been sold to new owners. I was right !
Needless to say, we will never darken the door of theses imposters again.
What a loss to our family, and the neighborhood.
After decades of special times and meals at the real Bear pit, I can tell you although the name on the sign still says bear pit, the real Bear Pit is no longer there.
We miss you already !

Waitress kept just shoving things on our table and seemed flustered. My salad had a hair, 2 spoons had paper dried on them, and my fork had dry food on it. The food was good. But based on the beginning experience I don't recommend and won't go back! Gross!

We've been customers since we were kids in the seventies and sadly yesterday was our last visit: smelly restrooms (sewer gas from the drains), rude service (we felt rushed out the door at 4pm), and the sandwiches had half the meat that they used to. Well it was a good run. RIP Bear Pit. We'll miss your glory days.

I hate making negative reviews, but this place is so horrible I have to. If nothing else to save you from the worst $20 lunch I have ever had. 1970's cafeteria food 50 years later. Mealy pork, no smoke ring. No smoke flavor. This simply isn't barbecue. Insipid flavorless sauces. A two ounce portion of Sysco canned barbecue beans is the hit of the plate.

I was there with my mom and we were greeted kindly. Our waitress was a different story. She was rude and didnt look like she cared if we were there. I felt rushed when we ordered. My mom asked for coffee and when it was taken to our table the waitress dropped it off and threw down the sugar packets and walked away. It felt disrespectful and so unprofessional. When i looked around the waitress was laughing and treating other guest kindly. I felt she was being racist because we are hispanic. Food was ok, i was not impressed at all. Honestly i would never go back again.

Still good BBQ since I started coming here in 1964. Wait staff is courteous and accurate. Good historical photos on walls. The bathrooms got modernized and are much better than before.

Lotsa history here!
