This was not my first experience at the Barbecue E...

This was not my first experience at the Barbecue Exchange, but it will be my last. I've never been very impressed with their food. It's pricey, often the chicken is dry, and I don't care for some of their sides. But with out-of-town family looking for a "Virginia" experience, I thought I'd give them a shot.

The location is cramped and does not flow well. The amenities are picnic tables with butcher paper, paper plates, and plastic flat ware. Plan on about $12-$15 per plate...more if you want a beer.

I placed my order for a family meal with a few extras and paid. The cashier realized I was moving to a table and yelled across the room that I needed to pay an additional $5 "dine-in fee" if I planned on staying. I briefly considered paying, but changed my mind and proceeded to collect my wife and family to move to our car to tailgate. One of the out-of-town family members decided they didn't want to sit in the heat and paid the $5 so we call all eat together.

So, I guess The Barbecue Exchange got their $5 and I learned to go someplace else for BBQ with my family.

Not friendly...certainly not family friendly. Meh barbecue, OK sauces, crappy flow, paper plate mentality. I'd go someplace else.
