Enjoyed a wonderful performance of "Auntie Merle it's a girl" totally South African humor but need to understand Afrikaans to get every joke.
Theater staff courteous and helpful. Aunty Merle and entourage such a hoot and well worth attending.
For Great Theatre, Great Shows! Good food!
Very popular!!!
Info center at the Baxter directed me to the wrong theater.
Staff working at the ticket office looked like they climbed out of a laundry basket.
The venue looks exhausted... don't think it has had a makeover since 1990
One of the best live theatre venues in Cape Town. Has the legacy and the history of arts in the city
An excellent, comfortable and iconic venue for theater in all its forms.
Beautiful, spacious theatre for contemporary art and dance and loads of off street parking including a bar and some snacks for sale. You can book online for shows
Always nice to go see a show here. Service is great. Not a super modern theater.
Great show!....Marc Lottering..."Aunty Merle...its a girl!"
Well organised theatre with various shows running concurrently. Zolani Mahola's play was outstanding. Previous shows I've seen have been world class.
What a show. Mark Lottering at his best. It's a girl
A range of different sized theatres in interesting 70's architecture. Get there early and have a drink at the bar because parking is always in short supply. Go round back to Baxter road to find alternative parking at the university buildings.
My favourite theatre in Cape Town. Well managed, good parking, easy access and places to eat and drink something before the show or during the interval. Spacious foyer to meet friends for a chat. A charming place dating back to the 1970s.
An institution in Cape Town. Very chilled and almost intimate live show venue
Quanita Adams for At her feet. What a superb solo performance!!!
Aunty Merle was side splittingly funny. Had a wonderful time. Amazing cast.
Service good ....staff friendly
Woza Albert absolutely excellent !!!
Nice experience as always to go see a show at the theater. However, not nice that the vendors do not take cards and cash only.
Well maintained equipment and a variety of good shows
They always organize wonderful events. I'm at the Fluer du Cap Award. I like taking my kids there for shows too. Top of it's class
Great shows. Confectionery store needs better organization. Expect to wait when there are long queues.
A fun night out with friends where we watched an up and coming comedian; Schalk Bezuidenhout #jerseyboy
The Baxter Theater has great shows. We watched "Adulting" by Daylin Oliver. He is very talented and funny. Snacks and drinks available to purchase before and after the shows creating a cozy vibe. Will definitely visit again.
Wasnt impressed much with thos show of Marc Lottering waste of money time no break too short
Ambient, luscious and warmly. Everything you can expect from a theatre and more. Refreshments and more at arm's length. Nothing less than enjoyable, good for family,(check shows for age restriction)
Excellent location. Easy access.
The Baxter theatre building enhances the acoustics of musical productions in most amazing ways.
I loved the atmosphere and the staff are super attentive and helpful.
Enjoy it, just the late penalty where you have to wait for 15 mins rule.
Great bar and restaurant. Value for money. Great show.
Love the theater and the ambience. One detractor, drinks are extremely expensive.
Marc Lottering show is highly recommended... A must see SA... embracing diversity... addressing societal changes in a lighthearted manner making us wonder whether these differences are really worth holding onto... Not so at all since it really nonsensical... Especially if love, care and respect should reign...
Started on time, excellent show. Always a treat at the baxter
What a great looking place that is filled with friendly staff
The Baxter is a lovely space to explore the performance side of Cape town. They have a variety of shows to choose from.
Watched Mark Lottering's Aunty Merle musical, always a pleasure to be at the Baxter.
Watched Marc Lottering. was a great show. Venue was efficient. Bar well priced. Theatre was comfy. Peanuts were SALTY. Always a good time.
No matter what you watch, the Baxter never disappoints .
Their shows are amazing and I always come back for more.
What a fantastic evening! I watched the Cape Town Funny Festival here and it was brilliant! Bathrooms were clean, staff friendly, enough parking and a warm vibe in the air. Only setback, snacks were a little pricey, but an awesome time overall.
Cosy little theatre with good acoustics. Parking was fine inside and inexpensive. I gather you will battle if you come late, as most Capetonians seemed to do. The restaurant is suited to students and has a simple sort of fixed menu where they dish up for you. It is vegetarian only and no consideration went into any other dietary restrictions. You probably dont want to eat here. There are food places within easy walking distance.
The aircon needs to be switched down to below 21 degrees celsius in summer. It was getting so stuffy in the theater, I started feeling claustrophobic.
The place also needs a bit of an upgrade - some of the trimming of the seat cushions are falling off and there are loose wires all over the place.
Great vibe, helpful staff and always top class entertainment.
Emo Adam's sucked and so did Lindy Johnson(wouldn't recomend anyone see their shows) The Baxter itself was lovely.
We watched a play "Every year, every day, I walked". That was an interesting and unusual play about migrants. The music and the actors play are in absolute harmony. I recommend.
Great experience, the only problem I found is parking space
Interesting shows and despite the 70's architecture the natural finishes are calming and render a special charm. While dinner and a show is usually more stress than it's worth the Indian style restaurant on site offers great food a lot of it vegan from an affordable buffet. Soft drinks coffee and a nearby bar adequately cover beverage requirements. Adequate loos and easy parking set the Baxter Theatre aside from most of its peers. Great place to take overseas or up country visitors.
Its a place where I get my full share of local comedy and laughs
