Where have you been my whole life. Amazing food. Amazing service. Beautiful and romantics setting. Perfect in every way. New favorite place to eat in the city.
Our favorite steak house! Elegant and romantic but down to earth vibe, amazing food and beat front and back of the house in Chicago!
Bavette's was amazing! The food is pictured below and says it all! The cocktails were great and the vibe was also fantastic. The place is dark with a speakeasy, 20's type of feel. People were dressed nice so a good place to get dressed up. Staff was very knowledgeable with recommendations
Outstanding experience in every way - service, atmosphere, food.
Great bar. Great food. Great atmosphere. Upstairs had a more refined ambiance playing jazz and swing in the background. Downstairs dining was darker, more intimate and the music louder and trendier.
Fantastic experience! Service, atmosphere and food was a 5 star experience. One of the best places in the country. I will make a reservation every trip to Chicago.
The food is delicious and the atmosphere is dark and lovely!! The service was phenomenal!! Definitely coming back! Celebrated my hubby's birthday and the brought this cute sparkler with ice cream.
The atmosphere and dining area was great. The service was amazing our server was soooo nice and accommodating. My boyfriend opted for the dry aged steak and he loved it!!! However I was a little dissappointed in my entree. I got the short rib stroganoff expecting a rich sauce with noodles and short rib. But what I got was the opposite. The meat was great on its own. But the pasta was clearly not tossed in the sauce in a pan. It was all clumped together and had the sauce on top which made it all sticky and not well incorporated .The sauce also was very heavy on the horseradish. I love horseradish but was definitely not expecting it for a stroganoff dish. I either would've liked a normal stroganoff or at least a warning on the menu saying what would be in the sauce.
Worth the 3 month wait for reservations. NY strip was great. For sides, we got cream spinach and Mac and cheese, both excellent. But the French dip stole the show
A favorite Chicago place for dinner when we're in town.
Overall Bavette's was a great evening out. The food was very good - I did have to send my steak back because it wasn't cooked the way I asked - but it came back perfect. The wait staff attentive but we had to get someone's attention at the bar to order drinks (there were several staff who could have said...
Excellent streak and very good thick cut bacon! Highly recommend giving this place a visit
This place hits all the high notes of a Chicago steak house. Great seafood, knowledgeable staff, and fantastic steak. The atmosphere is perfectly cozy and comfortable to make you want to stay there all night and sip cocktails.
Amazing cuts, great atmosphere.
They have a good BYOB policy, you can bring your own wine at no cost. The only thing is that you have to share one glass with another guest at the restaurant. This promotes a friendly environment. I like it.
If I could I give it 6 stars. I am there every week. The folks who work there a stellar and I've never been disappointed with my food. When I say I go there weekly, I don't just meas once a week. Sometimes up to 3! and I've been a regular there for over 2 years and they have never let me down. Great people. Great food.
We have been trying to dine here for the past two years and couldn't get a table on weekends before 11 p.m. ( we don't Iive in the city ) well finally scored but still had to go @ 9:30 on a Sunday night- not sure why that late that day as the place wasn't all that crowded when we arrived. The food was outstanding- an amazing fillet mignon- cooked perfectly- the frites were outstanding too- salad, oysters, basic steakhouse fare but they do it oh so right- complaints - this place is pitch dark ! Hard to read menu and even enjoy the ambience because it is just too dark. The other complaint is that it is newly remodeled & they put in a bunch of 2 top tables- round , wood which is fine but then you sit in these oversized wing chairs-and you sit too low in them- makes it very hard to cut a steak , let alone eat- very attractive but such a bad design choice ( I am an Interior Designer ) - they need to rethink this new addition-Great food, good drinks, great service and a beautiful space.
My little brother took he here and I was blown away, I didn't know he had taste like that. The restaurant was like a 5 star restaurant without the 5 star price.
You will want to take a very special person there. Like they say you have 1 time to make an impression , this is the spot to make that impression.
A game changer when it comes to food.
Fantastic meal! A Chicago favorite - make reservations! There was a 2 1/2 hour wait at 6pm. The bread and butter were heavenly! You can bring a bottle of wine (1 per couple) but you must share a 5 oz pour with someone in the restaurant. You are almost assured someone else will share one back. We actually got two sent to our table. It was wonderful. The two negatives would be that it is very dark inside and the music was quite loud. We actually had to ask to have it turned down which they did.
Best bread I've had in the U.S so far. Hands down. I've only ever had similar or better bread in Paris. That seems like a wild claim but just try it and you'll see what I mean. Their food and drink is also great. The ambiance is dimly lit, quiet, and relaxing. I highly recommend this place for a romantic dinner!
Hands down one of the best French steakhouse in Chicago. From start to finish, everything was excellent. We ordered the dry aged ribeye and the truffle mac n cheese, and everything was on point . I especially liked the mac n cheese with thick bacons as it had pleasantly intense aroma of truffle mixed with cheese. Unfortunately, we got a seat that was the closest to the entrance, but the staffs were very friendly and made sure that we were always served well.
Exceptional service, outstanding atmosphere, and spectacularly delicious food. Very easy to blow your budget and you must come here prepared to spend, but the food was definitely worth it.
Words give this place no justice. Waiter was AMAZING as well as bus staff. Food was OUTSTANDING and to die for. Whatever you do....GET THE CRAB CAKE!!!
Steak was cooked exactly to my request and all the sides we're excellent. Three sides and one salad to share for a table of five, each getting their own entree, was the perfect amount. The basement is a little quiet than the main dinning area, and has a great atmosphere. The staff was at the top of their game throughout.
Good steak
Mushrooms are also good
By far my favorite restaurant in chicago. Amazing mixologists create divine cocktails. The staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating and the food is heavenly. I m from Texas and these steaks are next level. Ask to be seated in the basement. Very chill and cozy atmosphere. Brandon who handles reservations is amazing!
Excelent wine and exquisite food, great attention but a little bit dark to see menu... Great if you want to have an intimate time.
Dark, speakeasy decor and vibe. Excellent food and trust your waiter s recommendations. Wedge salad was NOT your typical wedge and a must-try. Don t fill up on bread!! Very generous with their drinks. Highly recommend!
Snooty front desk staff ruined it for me. I have been going to the best restaurants in the world and I told for over a month out there are no available tables from 5:00PM to 9:30PM. I wanted to be come a regular but like I'm a fool I was told they don't hold tables for regulars. I'm done. There are always tables available that long out
UPDATE - They refunded the overcharge. I guess it was just bad luck for me. I'm relieved that the restaurant responded promptly and resolved it. Apart from this incident, the overall experience was good.
UPDATE - They replied to my email. Will update this comment when this is resolved.
ORIGINAL - As far as food goes, I'd recommend give it a try. However, keep an eye on your credit card bill. They changed my tip, and I was charged $78 on the tip for a $90 meal (including $9 tax). Granted I rarely dine at this kind of restaurant, so I just wrote a normal 20% tip on the check, and my US friends always tell me I don't necessarily have to include tax when calculating the tip. I was dining quietly alone, and all service I asked for was food, drink, and an extra seasoned salt. It was my first trip to Chicago, and this dining experience is definitely the "highlight" of the trip.
Fantastic food. Bar is very slow. Order two drinks at a time
The food was delicious! Cocktails were good and there's a great whiskey selection. Need I say more?
Very pricey, but for the quality of the food & drinks, the amazing chill atmosphere, and the top notch service it is definitely worth it! They really go above and beyond to make any special occasion that much more special...
Always delish. Upscale pricing, but worth it.
Try the downstairs seating, totally chill down there
Sides were awesome. The steak was a bit over cooked. Had a great time
Had a great dinner here the other night. This was my second visit there and it was just as good as my first visit. We had a wonderful server named Natasha who was very informative of the menu and bar menu. Answered lots of questions before we ordered and coursed our food perfectly. She even brought us a Mac and Cheese with truffles gratis because one of there special side dishes was 86 d and she felt badly after she did a wonderful job of selling us on it.
I was with 3 other people and we probably ordered too much food but we just could decide. So we had the bone in ribeye steak, the Spicy Fried Chicken, Oysters, Baked Goat Cheese and and wonderful dessert special with meringue and strawberries with vanilla ice cream.
Great restaurant with fabulous service. The crab cakes are to die for as is the chocolate cream pie. Decorated with dark woods, the dining area allows for easy conversation with wonderful jazz standards in the background.
The atmosphere is spectacular. The experience itself however is a tad overrated . I enjoy hot food, but my steak and potatoes were room temp. Maybe Thursday evening is not the best times to stop by.
One of the best steaks in the city. You come here not just for the name, location or drinks. Those all are known, but the food and service are top notch. Enjoyed some exquisite seafood here as well including the shrimp and crab. Both were excellent. The steaks are large and three of us were able to split the filet and NY strip. Bavette's encourages this and will cut the steaks prior to bringing them to your table making it easier to share. The meal was top notch all the way including the sides, drinks, dessert and service. One suggestion is I'd prefer a little more sear/char on my steak, but I can't really complain given how excellent it all was. The basement where we sat had a chill/relaxed atmosphere which was great - not stuffy at all.
Outstanding! There are no comparisons to Bavette's Bar & Boeuf when it comes to the best restaurants. They focus on every detail of fine dining in every way possible. The food and service exceeds all expectations. The dishes are creative and unique presenting an explosive palatal experience with each bite.
Bavette's Bar & Boeuf, you really are in a league of your own!
Thank you for an amazing time. We will return!
Always outstanding. Their cocktails are fantastic, beef stroganoff to die for, and incredible elote style corn appetizer. Also, you can bring your own bottle of wine, under the circumstance that the corkage fee is you share a glass of said wine to a neighboring table. I love this place.
This is the best steakhouse in Chicago. The 42 day aged ribeye and NY steak were mouthwatering, the spinach and potatoes delectable, the cocktails excellent, and the dessert and coffee perfect finishing touches. The vibe is classic jazz speakeasy and the lighting is ambient. The service was top notch. Make sure to reserve a table in the dining room because the patio doesn't have the same vibe that makes this place so cozy.
As I entered the building my body got put into a relaxed mode. The atmosphere was chill which is a reason why I love this restaurant. The first thing that I noticed about the staff was that they were chill and positive. They are professionals at serving and satisfying customers. Then there is the food, I had gotten 42 days dry aged ribeye steak with a side of creamy mashed potatoes. When I took my first bite, I fell in love with the food. The steak was very tender and juicy and the flavors really came out. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy and really easy to finish. Finally, for dessert, I ordered a lemon meringue. The cream was soft and smooth but firm at the same time and the lemon was the right thickness. I fell in love with my visit. I'd definitely recommend Bavette's Bar and Bouef to my friends.
Speakeasy bar and grill with a cool vibe. Ribeye steak and old fashions are what to order here. The frittes were also good as well as the bread and butter brought to the table.
This was the best meal I have ever had I'm my entire life.
AMAZING! The food, the service, their handling of COVID precautions, all of it! Cannot wait to go back. Our server was great and made the night more fun!
This place is the best steakhouse ever! Eric is amazing and the Filet, mash, carrot cake and martinis are incredible! thank you for making our valentines day so special from Miami!
Simply amazing food and drinks. Top notch experience.
This is on the pricy side but the food is phenomenal! The staff is extremely friendly and definitely worth the money. My fav was dessert, the chocolate cream pie!
The service was top notch. The food was very tastful, the thick cut bacon is amazing. We sat in the parlor section which brings a great experience when eating.
Great atmosphere topped by their quality of food and service. If you are a group of two I'd suggest sitting at the bar and getting the best service in the place.
Had drinks and dinner at Bavette's with a friend celebrating my birthday. Drinks and food were outstanding as always! I've been there multiple times and always enjoyed it. Service was friendly and attentive. We were asked at least 5 times if we had dietary restrictions. I understand wanting to be careful, but a simple note on our check would have confirmed we had been checked. It doesn't bother me, but the restaurant is very dark (dimly lit) which some may find annoying when trying to read menus. The vibe is bustling and fun and the place was packed at 5pm. Seats at the bar are tough to get and the schools of hopeful bar flies seeking a spot can be a bit oppressive. "I think they are finishing...Did they ask for the check yet?...Is anyone sitting here?, etc." I'd still highly recommend Bavette's. Solid!
