Wish I'd known about this a year ago Dec 2016 had angiogram had spoken to staff who said would be done via wrist ,obviously didn't tell Dr this. He stormed into cubicle didn't say anything grabbed my wrists in turn , said something to make nurse and stormed out. The male nurse was lovely took me to theatre, left me in the mercyless hands of that man and lots of others . I had been told prior to this I'd have jab to numb wrist before starting,he said "sharp scratch" .Hell more like it ,his Mrs Hitler by his side asked me where pain was as I flintched few times so I said my wrist when should it go numb? They looked at each other and said nearly done now No POINT .Ingot away from that hospital asap even though I was being violently sick .It's taken until this week for the pain in my wrist to stop and I can now turn it . The male nurse was lovely. I've not been back as I found Dom to be arrogant, ignorant , an got no bedside manner s .I've read about him he does good work but needs to treat people better

AAU staff are on the hole very professional and good. However, the odd ward sister and agency person nurse attetattitudes needs much to be desired. I'd like to add though for the most throw the staff are brilliant but need to have a little more time to get their ACU up and running properly which may take a little time.

Waiting for more than 4.5hours to be seen by a racist male nurse(didn't know such a thing exist). Constantly calling someome who came later than us. Interesting thing is the same male nurse intially assessed my son and the same nurse will see my son after 4.5 hours waiting..how silly it is

When I walked into A&E I was shocked at the state ...

When I walked into A&E I was shocked at the state of the building, setup and surroundings. The nurse was dismissive and verging on rude. Her questions were rapid with no time to think about the answers, which when youre unwell isnt easy. There was zero privacy and staff were clueless about the process sending us the wrong way towards a part of the hospital that was locked off meaning we had to navigate ourselves and rely on the mercy of a cleaner to let us through, again not easy when you are feeling so ill. The GP who saw us was thorough but had to be really firm with another team to get any further tests. On the ward staff were so short staffed for the number of patients in their care.
They were uncoordinated which meant wasting valuable time at one point cleaning and remaking beds three times that had already been done. The registrar prescribed a certain pain killer which we couldn't take with us and drugs given during our 7 hour wait were not noted which is scary and delayed us further. I know this is the NHS and it's free. I know there is little money to have a perfect environment and state of the art equipment. I felt like I was in a poor country that could do no better, but having been to several other A&E depts in Hampshire I know they aren't all like this. There are lots of promotional materials for the private clinic around the corner though....mainly in the filthy lift. Feeling sad and shocked at this experience.

Sherborne Building midwifes and consultants are amazing I have a baby in Nicu and all the nurses have been amazing, I cannot fault any of the staffs care. Would recommend everyone to have their baby here.

Attended A&E whilst my partner was an inpatient at the hospital. I was seen by doc within 1 hour, treated and out within 1.5 hours. Very happy with the treatment and advice given. Thank you so much Basingstoke A&E

Just been to have a CT scan and can honestly say the nurses are 1 in a million. I have a needle phobia and when they said I would need a cannula I went into meltdown. They bent over backwards and found a numbing spray and with a bit soothing words and kindness managed to get the needle in.
Massive thank you to both the lovely nurses.
PS sorry I swore

Fantastic lady on reception. First port of call for many. She was patient, organised and very polite.( small lady with short blonde hair)
She went out of her way to help people. Fab patient care.

Dr Singh was amazing. I had unknowingly to me been walking around for 3 days with a collapsed lung which was leaning over my heart. Ambulance crew failed to pick it up and said it was a virus strain but I kept passing out every time I bent over to feed my cat. My gp told me to get straight to hospital where I was put on nebuliser and had xrays done.
Dr Singh came back and told me and my parents that I was a very lucky person and was lucky to be alive after 3 days with collapsed lung over my heart. He said by all rights you should be dead. He operated on me there in resus straight away and saved my life Dr Singh himself and the female training doctor and nurses were all fantastic and gave reassuring support to me throughout.
And the nurses and doctors on the wards were also great throughout rest of my stay until my discharge
They all worked hard professionally and thoughally and precise.
And meals were good too and good choices.
Thank you to all who helped me. 10/10

Yes the wait was long, but where isn't. The nurses and doctors are under great pressure so no wonder for delays.
Everyone was nice, but very busy.
The doctor which attended me was lovely, I wish I remembered his name, he was American for sure. Very nice and very attentive, I would come back to the hospital just to see him again
Only minus was that the hospital was a bit dirty in the waiting area

Decent enough despite standard NHS issues... Not enough staff, slightly run down infrastructure, buildings absurdly hot. Maternity ward and a&e both staffed by hard working but poorly organised and over stressed medics.

Had an accident on a busy local roundabout. Within seconds, an ambulance on a routine call diverted to help us (my family were in shock) and then took us to the hospital for checks. The care and attention was FANTASTIC.

Thanks to all those who helped us - it turned a really horrible situation into a much calmer and hopeful one.

God bless the NHS and keep it safe from the powers that be - i.e. those that can afford to bypass it and don't know how special it is.

I suffer from arrhythmia and have an implantable defibrillator. One Saturday evening in Basingstoke I had an episode and passed out, the ICD fired off and I regained a regular heartbeat and consciousness. We called an ambulance which arrived within about 10 minutes, the medical crew were really professional, I was very impressed. Arriving at the hospital it seemed pretty chaotic I put that down to being a Saturday night. I was shown into a shabby room where a worn out gown and threadbare blanket was offered. Nurses came and went, they were friendly enough but didn't seem to actually do much. I asked on several occasions to be allowed to take a calming medication as I was very nervous and worried, I was told to wait, wait and wait again. When I did see a doctor he hardly spoke any English (in fact his command of the Dutch language seemed better) he couldn't tell me if I had had an episode or even a heart attack as they didn't keep any cardio equipment that could read the ICD data at the hospital, I was told the consultant brought that with him when visiting, at the earliest Monday morning. He appeared to be getting his information from a telephone central where I presume a heart specialist was passing on advice. After about 2 hours I was allowed to take some medication (I always carry my own, enough for a week with me). Nobody seemed to know what to do or what had happened so my wife and I decided to take the risk and return to Belgium. I've had quite a few episodes so I know what the form is but being in this shambolic hospital just made us feel worse. The UK NHS hospitals have far to go before they come anywhere near the high levels of Northern Europe. I do hope that this hospital is no benchmark for the rest of UK healthcare.

Have been attending the Sherbourne building maternity department for a couple of months now, with more visits planned. All staff are very helpful even though they can be busy at times. Extremely understanding of the individual needs of some patients. Car parking can be difficult, so allow plenty of time, or park off site and walk if you can.

1 star because I can't give it 0.

I've never encountered such a poorly resourced a&e department before. I sincerely hope no one else has problems with their eyes Friday-Sunday, because an ophthalmologist won't see you.

I went to a&e on a Friday morning with a eye disorder that causes permanent vision loss only to be sent home with a promise that an ophthalmologist will call with me with an appointment...but I received no such call.

I had to go through 111 again today to get an appointment with hants docs who did a wonderful job at repeatedly calling the "on-call opthalmologist" until they secured an appointment tomorrow at Frimley Park.

Needless to say, I know which hospital I'm going to from now on.

Thank you to all the staff at Basingstoke hospital for all their help over the weekend. Your professionalism and kindness made an unpleasant weekend so much easier to deal with. Amazing work considering current circumstances within some areas of the hospital.

Myself and a partner went to the sherbourne building to have a scan at 4 weeks because my partner started bleeding, the staff there was rude and had no time for us, they done a blood test and said they would be in contact to let us know the results and heard nothing back so we got hold of her doctors and found out the information from them, the staff had no regards to our situation and said its pointless doing a scan, myself i am discusseded in the way they handled it the lack of communication is embarrassing for them and they need to have more respect for there patient's.

Reception staff are darn rude brought my one year old in and waited over 2 hours to even be seen when I approached the reception staff was told I m in the middle of something you ll have to wait! Then told by the miserable looking other one don t ask me how long it s going to be! Well I have a young baby that needs lunch so I will ask how long you re going to keep him hanging about. What is it with hospital reception staff and bad attitudes! You re not qualified doctors you re admin staff get off your high horses!!!

Nice staff that always try their best to help! The lady on the xray reception was so friendly and approachable and actually worried about the state of patients. I did not catch her name but thanks for your kind help, I really appreciate it and also thanks to the nurse who took me to the walkin xray. Wish I would always have this kind of service everywhere :)

I have only experienced the Cardiology Department and the Emergency Eye Clinic at this hospital but both of these are excellent and I have sufficient confidence to receive further treatment there. Well done!.

After a car accident my husband and I were taken to Basingstoke A&E. Fortunately neither of us had very serious injuries the ordeal was dreadful. My nose was bleeding constantly and I had pain down my side. My husband had a cut nose and a large lump above his nose. After sitting for 6 hours uncomfortable and freezing cold we saw a doctor for about 15 minutes. In my opinion my husband face should have been
Xrayed. The doctor didn't really say very much about our injuries just gave us leaflets. I don't ever want to go back again.

Theres no way to properly thank the basingstoke team of midwives, doctors and nurses for the care they provided me, but I thought a review is a start.
I had the best team for my c- section- from anesthetist to the surgeon, I was in competent hands. The midwives after birth were all simply amazing- caring, knowledgable and always there for advice.
Even when things didn't go to plan and we ended up in the neonatal special care, we were surrounded by wonderful staff that made it bearable with advice and tons of empathy. They deserve more than 5 stars.

Had a recent heart attack and my treatment was second to none, from the AAU to the Cardiology Unit. On the times I've needed to use the hospital I have found it the best experience, with the consultation, support and care in general brilliant

Recently moved to basingstoke. My Partner was rushed by ambulance to the hospital and i cannot say enough that how quickly they dealt with him and how amazing all the staff where. i am amazed by how wonderfully treated my partner was, and how they kept us both calm and insured us we would be helped. My Partner was seen right away and although he was monitored for many hours this did not bother us as we knew they were helping us. It is so nice to know what we have such a great emergency service so close.

Lost multiple people close to me here, attempted to look after me a couple times, they did so but quite a few staff are terrible. Facilities are alright but from the outside it is a prison

I'm pleased to report that my latest ratings for t...

I'm pleased to report that my latest ratings for this hospital have risen considerably since 2012 when my experience was poor. Recently I'd give them 10/10 for my A&E Trip but previous A&E Trips it's been more like a 4/10 or 5/10 because they've not wanted to take the time to check into the problem and sent me home after the first ECG test - which wasn't useful and didn't get to the bottom of the problem. Waiting times have varied in A&E between 20 minutes to a few hours and out of hours there isn't much in the way of food although a kindly nurse made me and my hubby a cuppa on my last (long) visit.

In terms of staying in the hospital my most recent stay in the Womens Health Unit in Oct 2016 (same building as maternity ward) I'd say 10/10 again - everyone was very helpful and kind and took time to check on me while I was in a side ward where you can often get forgotten. I think their staffing levels are higher there. Also in the new wing my young daughter also received 10/10 care while having her molars out around 2 years ago and I was generally very impressed with her level of care. I also like that they gave her a hospital bear when she split her head open 4 years ago which she loved.

IF I COULD CHANGE ONE THING!
I have bad veins (hard to draw blood or fit a cannula) and this hospital NEVER seem to use the equipment which enables them to see where the veins are located - so I end up feeling like a pin cushion (recently they tried 4 times to fit a cannula and caused a haematoma in my hand from the trauma). A nurse told me they have the equipment. Perhaps they reserve it for infants and cancer patients only - but it would be a "nice have" to use this fairly inexpensive technology for everyone with bad veins to avoid needless pain and suffering!

CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK!
My recent operation was cancelled twice - the second time while I was sitting in the hospital bed just prior to surgery. This came about due to 'other' medical issues which the anaesthetists were worried about. This highlights to me that (although I was probably an unusual case) the pre-op stage isn't as foolproof as it could be. They need to review this process. My recommendation to you as a patient is when you see the consultant (often straight after speaking to the pre-op nurse) is to also bring the consultant up to date covering the same discussions you've just had with the pre-op nurse where the info is perhaps new and may possibly impact your selection for surgery. This might include... discussing any recent A&E events or new medical information, new medications etc.

A DIFFERENT HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE IN 2012
My experience back in 2012 on the main women's ward was awful scoring 3/10. Issues experienced included substantial delays with receiving pain medications, lack of care for less abled patients; irritability and rudeness to an elderly patient and a few more things besides. Perhaps staff levels were down that week - I don't know - but I do know that the patients on the main ward were all about looking out for each other because the nurses didn't have the time to do so. One elderly patients' daughter refused to move from her mums bedside as she realised the care levels were so poor that her mum had started to go downhill. I'm relieved to say that I didn't recognise this as being the same hospital a few weeks ago. I'm not sure why there was such a discernible difference in care back then.

FOOD
Food is quite good at Basingstoke Hospital (although the porridge needs help) but I believe Winchester food is superior followed next by Southampton food. I didn't always get everything I requested on the menu - sometimes the things I added were crossed off. When in A&E out of hours you sometimes can get a cuppa from the nurses if they have time but if you're able to walk you can get into the main part of the hospital and visit the canteen where there is food/drink available in the carousel machines.

So...I'm going to award them 4/5. Hope they keep up the good work!

Bullied by incompetent rude unknowledgeable staff. Your healthcare is a shame of Europe. You are not comparable to excellent healthcare systems on the continent. You are immoral, unhelpful and useless. You endangered my husband's life. Your ambulance people smelled disgustingly and bullied me in public.

Visited twice in the last couple of months once in a@e and 2nd tome maternity unit. This hospital needs some serious tlc. Walls cracking with bita falling off paint work on doors ect terribly chipped. Although the care is a definate 10/10. Fantasric carimg staff. One thing that has rea)y upset us is that the young lady im with was reqdy to go home at 10am.. Yet at 4pm we are still sat here waiting for a prescription to be ready. Its no wonder the nhs has no beds when patients are in them for a whole day and solely because they are awaiting meds to go home with. Then theres the car parking charges that the hospital is benefiting from whilst were sat around.

Walked into Emergency 20 minutes ago with 5 years old son with deep head injury. No sense of urgency at all. Been booked as any normal patient. Still waiting to be looked at by Nurse and then 5 hours for Doctor..
No body bothered to put anything to stop wound bleeding

I have been here many times, from physiotherapy and MRI scans to admissions on the children's ward for mental health reasons, one admission for my eating disorder lasting 5 weeks last year before i was transferred to a specialist unit in the Midlands. I can honestly say that most of the care i received was amazing and i will never forget how the staff helped me and had more of an impact on my recovery than a "specialist" eating disorders unit and i am forever greatfull.

Each time i've been to Basingstoke, they have given me the feeling of safety and security and care that i truly needed. They spoke to me if i needed to and most of the time were understanding and catered to everyone's needs
Although a&e may be slow at times and frustrating to be in , forgetting to flush cannulas and leaving the syringe and not taking ECG stickers off ( which are small mistakes and is reasonable considering how much of a stressful environment ED is for everyone and no one is perfect) the care i received at this hospital has been so, so good and am eternally thankful for their care. (except for RMN's, who made my situation worse but i will not go into that ) so thank you

Absolutely disgusting! Such a bad representation of the NHS, I appreciate they are short staffed and underpaid but that is no excuse for what happened this morning. As far as I'm concerned there is absolutely no reason for the hospital to be dirty, a paramedic to make someone feel uncomfortable in their own home or the ignorant staff members to pass comments about patients to each other in the hospital whether they think we can hear or not. I will never use this hospital again, I will travel to Frimley Park where they actually seem to care about their customers, I would recommend Frimley Park to anyone.

I flew in from South Africa to sadly fall ill, got admitted by A&E and the staff there were so accommodating, friendly and professional. They helped me through the channels I needed to go through for my condition. The Women Health Unit took me in from there and continued with the helpful service. In most of my experiences the thought of going to a hospital is tiring due to how the staff can treat you but this hospital was amazing and made my situation feel at ease and gave me the best care by far. From the beginning to the end all staff members were so caring - I would trust with my life with them any other day, as they did not treat me differently just because I was not a UK citizen. Thank you all :-)

Had my baby daughter delivered here on 11th June. Care and attention for her and just as importantly, my wife, was brilliant. Thanks to them I have another special person in my life. They're a great bunch of people on the maternity unit

Fantastic hospital and waiting times for A&E were very good. Very good team. Only downside is that the hospital is very old and confusing to navigate. The wheelchair accessibility is not good at all and the lifts are often down. There are not enough wheelchair parking spaces either.

What a great bunch of people in Cardiac Dept, from all Doctord,Nurses, Services , nothing was to much trouble felt like home in many ways. Only downside im told by visitors is the car park being full most of the time.Special thanks to Helena Firth who cares above and beyond,a very special lady.

I am so grateful for an absolutely wonderful service from the very beginning up to very end of my treatment. Everyone at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital was really lovely, caring and wanted the very best for myself. Little gestures like ambulance personnel stroking my hair to calm me down on the way to the hospital, everyone gathering to sing me a happy birthday birthday and smiling all the time every day despite being so busy made this very scary and unexpected accident so much less frightening. I felt truly cared for and in safe hands. Whole team in CCU and Cardiology department went that extra mile to find the best solution and technology for me to match my circumstances. My special thanks go to Dr Kelly who coordinated the treatment and performed the procedure. He has shown the highest levels of expertise, professionalism and kindness always finding the time to see me in his busy schedule.

Parking very expensive.
Waiting times very long in outpatient although they seem to be improving recently.
Helpful maternity unit.

Getting your own records would be nightmare and very expensive. Accessing your personal medical information at least electronically should be free.

Absolutely disgusted! My husband attended with unimaginable pain in his upper back radiating left shoulder and giving pins and needles with shooting pains down his left arm. We were seen by a male nurse extremely dismissive and arrogant. No physical checks were made to him and was told they can't prescribe anything. I would have thought left arm pins and needles with shooting pains warranted an investigation to rule out cardiac issues!.....i find this hard to believe with pain as crippling as this nothing could have been done about the pain. Especially when I have attended A&E with My mum with a back injury they were more than helpful, not in Basingstoke obviously. My husband was given a leaflet on neck injury to do some exercises ......what an absolute joke!! He could barely move. The pain so intense it was making him physically sick. But no advised to do exercises and put a wheat bag on it.......what a joke. Disgusting service utterly appalled. He had major inflammation and a trapped nerve but it's ok everyone nothing a wheat bag can't fix!!!........joke! Was phoned back by a doctor from 111 service asking him to come to Basingstoke hospital at 10pm at night. Maybe if our time wasn't wasted first time around we wouldn't have needed to attend back at 10pm! My husband has since seen his gp who thinks he has slipped a disc and this is pressing on his nerves. Bloods, x-ray and physio given as well as adequate pain relief. This is the service I expected. Being a nurse myself I couldn't believe the attitude and dismissive and quite frankly incompetent lack of assessment at Basingstoke A&E!!

Excellent hospital staff, many of whom will go above and beyond to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Facilities are generally clean, treatment teams are well-organised and efficient, and the food is balanced and tasty (and I have been very impressed with the gluten free options available as a coeliac). Thank you to all the staff who have made my fairly extended stay in hospital as pleasant an experience as possible: all the nurses, doctors and health care assistants work incredibly hard and care a great deal about their patients. I will forever be grateful for the life-saving treatment I have received.

Emergency service.. Not really.. Me and my pregnant wife we waited for 3.5h to be looked at.. She was in pain, but they point us to the orthopedic section to wait... Why orthopedic section I don't know because the problem wasn't related to this section at all.. A&E.. . Seems like a bad joke..

My dad had a heart attack at home was taken to the ED , he's 80 years old and as no bed where free, he laid on a bed in a corridor for nearly 17 hours. Please tell me this isn't standard practice... most of the staff are very helpful and do there best under such bad circumstances. I hope and pray I never need to go to ED . We need to support our NHS and help them fight for our basic needs before it's too late

Really disappointed with the referral times for operations! 3year old referred for a tonsillectomy in August, still waiting to even hear a date the next January! 6months!!! Secretary staff absolutely hopeless and give you no information as to why it s taking so long, and quite condescending! Will be asking GP to send us to Reading hospital next time.

On a positive note the nurses are lovely and the midwifery unit is fab.

Visited again this evening, I tried yesterday but the place was packed with families attending one of their own. No room for many people that were unwell as space taken by "supporters" of an supposed unwell person. I went home rather than wait in the chaos called a Waiting Area.
Went back this evening and as per "Regs" and Box Ticking requirements (I have a condition that holds some priority), I was triaged by a very caring and efficient Nurse and taken through to an Obs area within 10 minutes. A "Consultant" came to see me about 15 minutes later and said I have a wheeze. Considering I sounded like a 2nd hand, out of tune accordion, he very much stated the obvious and There the treatment started and ended. No plan just a 1st year student diagnosis and process. Then as usual and for the 3rd time this year, left in a cubicle and ignored until again, for the third time, I discharged myself when a nurse could not find my Doctor. I find it hard to believe that this hospital is in any way affiliated with Frimley or Southampton. I have attended both and they are excellent. Unless you are at imminent risk of death and have the time and resources, go elsewhere.
