This was an incredible place. Easy to pass, but not so easy to forget. Haven't had food like this since I lived in the Caribbean. The jerk chicken is juicy spicy and exactly what I remember. The pork was so tender and the plantains finished the meal with a perfectly subtle crispness and sweet treat.
The neighborhood may steer some away, but the food is well worth it. Go ahead and try the Jamaican pineapple soda as well for the full effect.

Only thing missing to truly authenticate the experience here is if this was Jamaica. Truly a great experience. The service is great. The food is greater. Highly recommend this place to eat for anyone and everyone

I heard a lot of hype going into this place, but it is well deserved. The food is excellent, and the cashier is super nice. Only wish the place was bigger and the parking was easier. Only minor quibbles though.

Authentic Caribbean food (and drink--they even have Ting!). Seating is limited--almost impossible if you arrive between 11:45 and 12:30. Lots of people do take-out, and that is the way to go if you can't do an early or late lunch. Parking out front is also unlikely, so look for spots a block or so away. There are four types of jerk: pork, chicken, steak and salmon (they recently added jerk curry goat...not bad). The best is still--by far--the Jerk Pork plate: it comes with salad, plantains, brown rice and beans.

Not authentic, chefs are mexican and I came here because I thought they were Jamaican. Pork was burnt on the outside and the fries are definitely American and not Jamaican style. Staff is friendly, but I wouldn't come back for eating. Coleslaw comes in a tiny plastic cup. It looks like someone is cutting corners

O my goodness this place is amazing!!! Jerk chicken meal. It cannot be described it must be tried. I heard the fish is also good. When I go back I will want to try the ox tail

Great Jerk Chicken but they ran out of jerk sauce! What??? How can that happen when it's your STAPLE!

Ordered for takeout and it was delicious! The jerk chicken was fantastic and the oxtail was even better!

Everything here is amazing. The Jerk Chicken wrap is the best value lunch ($5) for ridiculously amazing food. All the jerk plates are incredible. Dont miss the Corn Festivals, Cole Slaw, Plantains, and Mac & Cheese. Sometimes takes a little while to get your food but it is well worth the wait.

Feels crammed, but nice quality food. When I came in around 12:00 PM on a Friday it was pretty busy. The food is priced around 10-13$ for a meal with free water. I got the curry lamb, which was both tasty and a little messy. The food overall was pretty good. I would come here again for take out, but not dine in.

Was in the mood and since it kept coming up in suggestions, so gave it a go (via UberEats). The Curry Goat & Beef Oxtail Combo had amazing sauces along with rice, beans, and fried plantain -- complete heaven. It's authentic, beware of bones, eat with hands! On the side, I ordered delicious Jamaican Fried Cornmeal Bread, so tender. To finish off, a slice of Pecan Pie. It was recommended and matched the meal well. Zandalar would approve, this is just WoW good, mon!! As many said, portions are hearty sized. I have enough left over for tomorrow's lunch! Back A Yard exceeded every expectation. I love you. Would do again and again!

Had been to BackAYard in a very long time. The male cashier was not in a good mood as I asked him questions about the menu. Ordered take out: Rib and chicken combo. Another patron told me to order in because the presentation and portions were better. She was right. When I got home my food seemed to be mixed together with the exception of the coleslaw. Not happy about that. Also, potato salad would be better with this dish instead of cold French fries. After spending close to $30 on lunch I expect more. Sadly, it'll be a while before I go back and when I do the food will be eaten at the restaurant.

Awesome place to have food when in a rush. The service is speedy, pricing is reasonable, excellent atmosphere. Highly recommended

One of my favorite places to eat in the entire Bay Area. Great food at a reasonable place. I would get take out here sometimes twice a week. Very friendly staff.

Food is great.. I ordered lunch for our executive team from here but several items were missing. The cook who tried to help me sort it out was impatient and rushing which I get because they are busy but im spending money here like everyone else. Sorry. I'm. going to make sure it's right. Lunch was late that day by almost an hour.

Took me back down memory lane when I was a little girl and my dad used to make Plantains for us. The unexpected surprises was they were served with their fabulous off the hook red rice and beans.

Brings you to the Caribbean for a short time. Great food that I found to have the right amount of spice.

Delicious food/sauce, their prices are beyond reasonable. Expect some difficulties with parking, the hassle is well worth it though.

Authentic, Tasty and reasonably priced. This is the original spot before their expansion to SJC and Walnut Creek. Long time customer and appreciate the freshness of the food and attention to detail on flavors. Catering is good as well.

Curry to die for, rice artfully seasoned, corn bread ouch! All rest is history.

Had Ackee and Codfish for Saturday lunch (it's a Saturday-only menu item) with a Jamaican beef Patty on the side and a Ting sparkling grapefruit soda. It was quite delicious. I split the meal with my Jamaican friend, who loved it so much that she got another order of the main dish.

Excellent jerks. Only problem is restaurant too small. Only seats 20 people. Peak lunch hour is hard to get a place to sit down.

Had chicken and ribs bbq plate and it was good. I'm from Kansas city so that comes with some weight.

This place was great! I love the atmosphere, as soon as you walk in it feels like the kinda place with good food. The food did not disappoint! The oxtail was amazing. Absurdly tender and juicy.

I love trying out Caribbean food. This place is my recent discovery. I tried Curried goat and Jerk Chicken Combo. I absolutely loved the food. Place was clean and packaging was great too. Portion size is large.

The food was really flavorful as a result of it being spiced to perfection. The pulled pork is what most of my group got and we all thought the same thing. The restaurant itself is on the small side with most of the seating being outside. I was in a big party which made the seating part a bit awkward at first, but after that it was a fun and filling experience.

They had the other normal means oxtail, jerk chicken, curry chicken etc but with the absence of food.
Now to the real questions and answers.
If you are a real Jamaican like I you may have your slight towards this place as they offer no FOOD.. only a real yardi know what we mean when we seh food. For all the foreigners food refers to cooked banana, white yam-- yellow yam, dumplings, cook plaintain. Soup. chicken foot soup. Goat head soup. I will stop there for now.
For now they are decent and well recommended.

Worth going out of your way for delicious Caribbean food. Reminds me of the Jamaican places in Brooklyn, which until I went here, I thought were unequivocally the best Caribbean food.

The coconut curry tofu was better than I expected. I usually get the jerk chicken or jerk salmon.

Decent place. Only one vegetarian option, but it was pretty good!

Different but good the rice tastes like it has pinto beans and coconut milk in it interesting but good chicken is delicious fried fish with the hot sauce amazing that bread tastes like an unglazed donut but goes good with the rest of the salty-sweet dish makes a good little dessert with the fried plantains and the dessert? Sweet potato pudding delicious!

Jerk chicken is always tasty, though the plantains can sometimes be burned.

Always great food and a great casual, friendly staff.

The goat curry is amazing. Really hits the spot. Also recommend the BBQ ribs.

It's hard to find a jamaican restaurant in my area (Fremont, Ca) everytime I eat at this place I'm never displeased. The oxtail with goat plate is my go to everytime. I would highly recommend this place.

By far the best plate ive ever had. The oxtails are amazing. The chicken amazing. The rice perfectly cooked n tasted like it had brown sugar n cinnamon in it. The plantains perfect. Definitely makes my top 5
