Amazing Caribbean food, tender, flavorful, and jui...
Amazing Caribbean food, tender, flavorful, and juicy. Huge portions and a very reasonable price. Go early if you re having lunch to avoid the line, we re go for relaxed dinner.

Staff was very friendly and the food was delicious!
The service is great; definitely worth the wait. The food is delicious and they never fail to amaze my taste buds. The flavors are .10 out of 10, full chef's kiss
The curry goat and jerk chicken were amazing. It came with a tasty hot sauce, sweet plantains and beans rice. The ambiance was very chill, polite service and portion/price were great.
Dam good Caribbean food, but you gotta try to work around the rush because this place gets packed!
Great food, friendly staff, total hole in the wall. I'd definitely go back. Tasty sauce, meat, plantains, coconut flavored rice.
The food is EXCELLENT, I ENJOYED every bit of it. I don't see myself getting tired of the food.
They had all phones available. I got the one's I was looking for in and out in no time.
Back-a-Yard is really the only reason to go to the South Bay for food. The Jerked Pork, in particular, is amazing.
Great food. No place to sit, though. Takeout is the safe option.
The best food ever but the not the best customer service.
Wonderful jerk sauce. Good value. Plantation and rice and peas (beans) are great.
My favorite, have to get it every time I am in town.
Best Caribbean food ever!! Love this place. Every time I work in Palo Alto. I always make a stop at this place. Must get the jerk pork and jerk oxtail combo.
The food is delicious it stays crowded the parking is bad but the food makes up for it
A little pricy with drinks (I ordered Combo Chicken and Pork bbq $12.75) but with drinks ( mango passion) in turns out $17 total. The drinks is too sweet, a no go for next time. The bbq tastes good with the rice/beans. Fried plantain is a sweet dessert. The bbq though can be improved with less burnt meat. Overall, satisfied, except the price and sugary drinks.
What an amazing restaurant. The food is literally a 6 star, however the decor, interior, and size is probably a 2. You go to Back A Yard for the amazing Jamaican food. Everything with jerk sauce is amazing. While it's 100% a hole in the wall I would 100% recommend coming for the food.
You gotta try their fried chicken wings they're so damn good!
Super delicious. Went on a Saturday at noon and walked right up to the counter. Fast service and amazing chicken and pork.
Food was amazing tasted just like food from the Caribbean. Almost impossible to eat all the food on your plate.
The food is so good you'll have to check yourself into rehab
The food was soooo tasty
The plates are big and the value for money is great. The restaurant was full which says a lot about the food. Staff was friendly.
The key lime pie to finish was delicious!
Highly recommended :)
Delicious food at very fair prices. The jerk and bbq meats are all excellent, the portions are generous, and the plantains are a must-have (get a side if your meal doesn't come with them). For a real treat, it you're doing take-out or delivery, add a side of plantains and serve with vanilla ice cream for dessert.
I always eat too much here. I wish I could have free refills of the homemade ginger beer
Consistently delicious every time we visit. Good customer service too
Having been to Jamaica twice I can say from culinary experience that in The Bay this place has the best Jamaican food outside of Jamaica. For real!
Food is great and portion sizes are large. However, seating was limited and one of the staff was a bit curt.
Crowded, so order ahead. It's also a little unclean. Tables are not cleaned very often. I sat at a table for over twenty minutes with the used dishes of the previous occupants.
It's always busy here, expect to wait a long time for the food and better to do Takeout.
A little hard to find from the street.
The food is good. 4 stars for the food, but minus 1 for the crowd and the cleanliness.
Good selection of Jamaican food. They sometimes run out of some dishes.
delicious food, friendly service, relaxed and fun atmosphere. recommended for awesome flavors
Good food but slow service and no parking near of the restaurant
Great food, large portions, very reasonable prices. Restaurant is small, so not a lot of seating.
Horrible neighborhood. Even more horrible customer service. Phoned in an order ahead of time, but they managed to forget about it. Parking is equally pathetic. Never again.
Amazing food. It's the perfect place for pick up. There was way too many people inside and outside for me to sit in and enjoy the food. So I took it home so that I could enjoy every bite.
Had the jerk chicken sandwich with fries. Nice flavor spicy limey delicious. Fries were just average but dipping in jerk chicken sauce made up for the bland fries.
The food is consistently good. Nice large portions, can last a couple of days. Wonderful to have some good Caribbean food nearby!
Service was great. Food stole the show. Jerk chicken combo was terrific, the flavour and cook was perfect. The corn festival was amazing, perfect combination of sweetness and fluffy corn bread. Would highly recommend it.
The jerk chicken was good but the service is really bad. It's very slow and they have no organization. Brought me the wrong order once and forgot one of the items. I gave up after 45 minutes and left.
The food was excellent. The place is really busy and is not that obvious from the road. There is very limited parking in the back. We tried to oder ahead, but could not get through. We happened to get there when there was a lull in the line, but it still took 15 minutes to get our food. The limited tables were packed, and there was not a lot of turnover.
I love the Jamaican food and nice service. Arrive early if you can to avoid the crowds.
One of my favorite food spots in my Hometown of East Palo Alto, Ca
The food was spectacularly delicious. Lightly fried plantains paired beautufully with the jerk chicken, and the barbequed pork melted in my mouth. I can't wait to go again and try the coconut cream or pecan pie. Mmmmmmm.
If you live in or around this area and havent tried it-- you're missing out. Order on the phone and go pick yourself up some jerk chicken
If you're looking for authentic Jamaican food this is not it. I had the jerk chicken and it made my stomach hurt immediately. They add a ton of rosemary to the jerk rub which totally throws off the taste. The plantain and beans and rice were good but it's not too hard to mess up on those two things. I don't see what all the buzz is about.
Great food great service. This is the original location. But it is not your avg middle class 'hood...this is a hardened area. Also very tight on the parking and grubadubdub is sucking up the food and parking as well as sitting in the street and blocking traffic
Back A Yard Grill is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in EPA. The jerk meats here at great, the BBQ not as much. This place is definitely worth coming to, just get something like the jerk pork. It comes with fried plantains, which are amazing.
Hole in the wall. No frills but a great find.. get the ox tail.
I always get the jerk chicken plate and it is fantastic. -1 star because service can be quite slow even when there are less than 15 customers.
Wonderful food in a very modest atmosphere. Jerk chicken was moist and flavorful, and the sides we're equally well done! I'll definitely be coming back. Try the mango passion fruit juice - it's a bit sweet, but delicious.
TERRIBLE SERVICE. The main middle aged tall Jamaican guy is a huge A-hole. Came in to order and he rudely barked they were closed for the day with 45min left until closing. The food is great though so all praise to the chefs and prep cooks. But to the guy that works there, ITS YOUR JOB TO BE CORDIAL AS A HOST- IF U CANT HANDLE THAT PLEASE QUIT. Thanks buddy
Had the Jerk Chicken and Jerk pork . The fried plantains reminded me of home (Nigeria)
Great food, friendly service. The jerk chicken and oxtail are a local favorite.
The food is delicious. My son and I both got the ribs and jerk chicken and we loved them both. They have the greatest.sauces there. I would recommend calling your order in and planning on taking your food to go.
Come to this place for the food. Prepare for parking problems, wait, limited seating option and some interesting murals. But one you get the food, just embrace. The meat is very good, plantains are sweet and moist and Mac and cheese is kids-approved. Try some Jamaican drinks for the help with the spicyness.
Disappointed.. Apparently these reviewers haven't been to Jamaica. Thumbs down on the imitation jerk pork.
Amazing food, big portion, decent price... Jerk chicken and pork!
Very small place, people mostly take out. Good food.
Very good food! Their jerk chicken (meal and wrap) is amazing. Love the rice too. Try to order ahead of time and pick up instead of waiting in line, since the wait can be as long as 1.5 hours at noon, especially Thursdays and Fridays.
