As a tenant at one of their properties if I could give zero stars I would. They don t even deserve that. The run around that is given to people is insane. Every possible thing that can go wrong, does. Maintenance is here in the building daily and it s pathetic. Busted pipes weekly and drainage issues. 2 units completely flooded by human waste 3 deep. It took 7 months to complete a work order and it was only taken care of bc I took care of it myself. I m tired of the run around. If you don t have to rent from Avesta I wouldn t. Save urself the stress and aggravation. Absolutely horrible

I can't say enough about the professionals working for Avesta, the condition of their properties, and the experience I've had applying (for multiple properties). As someone with serious health issues and financial challenges, this company lives its mission statement---and everyone involved has always treated me with kindness, respect, and care. I've rented my entire life, Avesta takes the top spot as far as I'm concerned. Creating and managing affordable housing is a huge challenge, and to do it well is incredible. Thank you Avesta for the consistency, patience, and wonderful interactions thru the years.

Don't expect them to actually follow-up on post interviews like they state they will. When reaching out to their HR staff, they can't be bothered to reply. Very disappointing for an organization that wants to make an impact in the Portland area.

I am writing in the hopes that his review will help someone looking for an apartment in the Greater Porland Area. I started looking for an apartment through Avesta in October 2019. I was looking for a 2-3 bedrooms apartment to share with my sister. They called us end of January and informed us thay they had an apartment in Munjoy hill (Munjoy Commons) available for February move in. We visited the apartment, did all the routine process, we even went as far as calling to ask who and where to send the secure deposit. We were then told that the apartment was given to someone else, mind you my sister had a newborn then. We went to complain in person and they told us that the lady in charge of our case was fired therefore we were given someone else to work with our case. This person calls us a couple months later to inform us that there is an available apartment near Whole foods, we send an application only for the person to disappear on us again. By disappear I mean he does not pick up the phone nor answer emails. We call the office again only to be told that he is on a PTO from which he never came back from. Forward to October 2020, they assign us someone else who basically tell us that we are #2 on the company s priority list but we don t get the apartment that was available because apparently the people that were #1 on the list took it. It s a company that tells lies unbothered. Very lazy with multiple excuses to not do their job.

Also did I mention the VERY RUDE receptionist. She answers calls like she s not in the mood to do her job. She is only nice when you mention that you ll complain to her boss.

I gave them a 1 star because there was no 0 star option. After a year of trying at Avesta we applied elsewhere a got an apartment in 2 weeks. Don t waste your time with them.

A total lack of integrity. I'd give zero stars if possible. This is a horrible company to rent from. You can do better someplace else.. I've lived in an Avesta apt. for 13 years, I've been put out for weeks at a time for mold remediation and two floods. (broken water mains) TWICE! And Avestas primary concern?...."Do you have renters insurance?" Mgmt. changes just about every year and are less competent each time. And things just keep getting worse. Mgmt. also loves to make up rules as they go and threaten tenants with eviction constantly if you say anything they deem "out of line" Instead of helping the disabled Avesta makes things much more difficult. The managers working directly with the the tenants are incompetent and take it out on the vulnerable. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS HOUSING! I have had 4 foot surgeries and Avesta couldn't care less! Yeah real nice people! NOT!

Rent prices in southern Maine are completely out of control. Many of us who work full time have no choice but to apply for affordable housing because market rate apartments in Portland now cost the same as they do in major cities elsewhere in America. Unfortunately for us, Avesta has a near monopoly on affordable housing in southern Maine. They know this and it shows. I have been in this apartment for 4 years and I am still waiting for them to fix things I reported 4 years ago. Every year they do an annual inspection and they point out the problems and say "how come you didn't report this?" and I say "I DID report it, I reported it last year, and the year before, and the year before..." but I guess they don't keep records of these things. They write it down on the clipboard but who knows where it goes after that. There has been a new property manager every year for the 4 years I've been here. They hire property managers off the street with no property management experience. One year on the job and Avesta promotes them to senior or regional manager. Two or three years on the job and they get promoted to director or VP. It's no wonder the company is so poorly run. I'm giving them 2 stars because frankly it IS better than being homeless and anyone who says they'd rather be homeless than live here is full of it. It just sucks that Avesta treats us like we should be grateful for any little scraps they toss our way. But this isn't only Avesta's fault, it's the fault of market rate landlords who raise their rents so high that more and more of us have no choice but to apply for housing with Avesta, and it is the fault of local and state politicians who refuse to do anything about high rents and low wages. They create or perpetuate the conditions that allow Avesta to treat us this way.

I'm giving this company one star because my mom has had some tragic stuff go on in the last 2 weeks going on 3 weeks with the loss of a loved one an she has requested to be moved an they pretty much denied her an giving her the run around which is poop in my opinion when there are open places right next to her an right down the road. All is being asked is to move her to another apartment so she does have to live in the one were a death happened. Why is it so hard for people to have compassion for some one else in a time of need.
I will change, edit or even apologize for this review when someone does something about this situation until then you have my name an if you wanna talk to me about this then do so.
Have a fabulous night.
