I had an appointment for a workshop at LH 100 and the office has sent me a message and email stating to come to room LH 100 at 0800. I came around 0700 looking out for places to park and the room. I went in room #100 waiting for Audrey Moore . Around 0805 i kept calling the office to confirm if the workshop has been cancelled and no one answered. When someone finally answered the phone, they told me they changed the room and there was a paper on the door stating they has changed to room 102. If i saw the paper, i would not sit in room 100 for a good 30 minutes and being accused for late and i end up have to reschedule the appointment. I did not wake up early for these unprofessional staffs work. I am not a late person when it comes to school and work. I accepted this because what else can i do as a student who needed to attend this workshop. Although this is a minor thing that happened, but i feel hopeless in this particular system when they accused me "coming late" "did not see the sign on the door." I'm sure no one wants to waste their early morning driving to school one hour early for a 3 hour workshop and ignored the paper on the door. I DID NOT SEE ANY PAPER ON THE DOOR. On my email, they stated "Academic P.R.I.D.E Faculty" and they wanted to reach out to us to help, well i do not see that they put too much enough to resolve this problem. It is not about rescheduling the appointment but it is about working professionally. The Counseling and Workshop has put me down and i hope that other staffs somewhere at Antelope Valley College will improve this for the future, but i definitely would not recommend to anyone. Below is the email they sent me and the room and time as well as they sent me a message on my phone to for the workshop appointment.

Amazing college and has some of the amazing proofsors around who actually teach and have worked or still in the field of that major who teach students what is expected of them and what to avoid when you enter your dream career for me it's film and television and I am graduating with a AAT in film and television from here next spring and I don't why other reviewers are putting down this excellent college and need 3 more FTV courses . And I need to apply for graduation this year..

Good college with instructors and guidance counselor's that do their best to help students graduate. I had a good experience when I went there, and also felt that the children's program was pretty good too.

The admission and records receptionists are rude and give false information when I try calling them. The transcrips office are unorganized, lazy, and don't call back like they say they will and everyone is horrible with communication.

Sadly this isn't a college for everybody. Try college of the canyons unless u live in this city and cant afford gas to drive elsewhere go here. I hear they help out the homeless though so kudos avc

Very unprofessional teachers don't show up to class and don't have the decency to e mail us and let us know, but the people welcome center were very helpful. Hope it gets better in the weeks to come don't want to waist my time .

So its not just the campus that lacks assistance and communication... the one person I needed to assist was the nursing director Elizabeth Berkely and she simply doesn't care ?. Like then what? After taking bio classes and working my butt off only to realize this lady in charge could care less about my endless tiring efforts ?.. This schools so unbalanced they need to start training employees or hiring new people.... starting with the nursing director elizabeth berkeleys position...... she belongs at a prison where criminals deserve that treatment.... not a college where students worked hard only for it all to come to a halt caz she wasn't born with a shred of humanity is rediculous. She doesn't belong there. Thats a good place to start.

This is actually an amazing community college compared to the ones in LA. The place looks pretty damn nice for what it is. Classes don't get full as fast here. The professors are usually professional about their jobs. They have many resources to take advantage of. Make an appointment with a counselor and ask as many questions as you can, avc will grow on you.

I studied the Early Childhood Education Program with alot of electives. I wanted to teach young children, and therefore, I wanted the most well rounded education I could get. The teachers in the program are very knowledgable and make learning the information interesting, setting an example of how you should teach young children and keep their attention. Teachers of other classes were mostly good, providing what I expected from a good community college. The office needs the most improvement. They seem to cater to the teachers, but lack any care or help for the students.

Worst experience of my life. Worst professors who believed everyone was there to just get fafsa money. Therefore, they were rude and discouraging to all. Counselors will keep you there as long as they can. Just go to another college.

Was thinking about attending then I read some of the super intelligent reviews... and I somehow feel that much less intelligent . Yes five stars dumber...here's a fun fact did you know stupid is actually something that can be caught if influenced enough by the stupid people around us so good job your uneducating rather lazy approach but nice looking campus to mask it all in a fancy box and overpriced bow has made me a dumb ads

Everyone in the main office takes their sweet time to get anything useful done. Some never even answer your emails or calls. Sad that's it better to just keep calling rather than leave a message.

Nice campus lots of trees, parking is hard to come by. Some excellent instructors, and some not so good. But I guess that s to be expected. Learning center with tutoring. Learning center has computers available to do coursework. The study areas and library all close early, wish they were open in the evening when the night classes are open. Some of us need quiet study areas and aren t available during the day . Seems very geared towards 18-19 year olds, not much concern for adults who may be pursuing a new career path. Plane is outside the ME building.

The nursing director elizabeth B. is a big joke. She didn't really have much to say caz she's too good to elaborate being the director?. I was only expecting some help? A path to work hard?.. isnt that what all students aim to do ?... well this so called director simply didnt want to be bothered. You'd have a better chance and less headache if you made this the last option you explore.. especially if u end up needing this berkely person for any reason.. she's a difficult..careless..rash.. know it all..

I graduated from AV JC in 1965, after having spent 4 years in the US Air Force at Edwards AFB. I had just come from Germany and barely had a high-school diploma (WWII interfered with going to school.) From AV JC I went on to Fresno State for a BS in Engineering which I obtained 2 years later. So, in 4 years of college I earned 136 semester units and a grade point of 3.6 (magna cum laude). I went on to Oklahoma State for a MS and to UC Davis for a PhD in 1972. Then, I had a great career at Exxon where I worked until retirement in 2000. If I were asked which college or university did the most for me to succeed, it is by far AV JC. When I started there at age 26, I had very little self-confidence because of my experiences in Germany. I was able to serve an apprenticeship there, but in no way was I encouraged to pursue an academic career. At AV JC I had at least 2 outstanding teachers: 1) Mr. Niles, the Physics teacher, and Mr. Schmidt who taught Calculus. A third teacher comes to mind who taught inorganic chemistry, but I cannot recall his name (sorry). During my college years I was exposed to many fine professors, but it was the dedication of these AV JC teachers that made me believe in myself. So, AV JC has a special place in my heart.

Spring semester was my first. Given wrong information from financial aid. Didn't get my books until after midterms. One professor only taught class for one hour. Instead of what I paid for. Im a disabled student. I was told by a Law professor and I quote. I don't like that your going over my head with the osd office. Never given information that was offered to other students. Very unprofessional.

Im not sure why the nurse department doesn't offer more help and direction as to whats next? Whats the ed plan and what not.. the director Elizabeth does not direct like her job title says. You end up doing your own research because she doesn't want to help students. I'd never rely on this so called director for direction or help of any sort.

I was a student at AVC for several years. It is a very pretty campus, and an affordable place to do undergraduate and associate degree studies, for later transfer to a four-year college or university.

Very glad to have the college in our community. Community colleges have become way more like high schools over the last ten years. That being said, this one is still improving in many ways. The part time instructors are among the best on its staff.

Want to deal with terrible staff, long waits, mediocre teaching, and condescending staff who treat you like an annoyance? Well attend this school if you want to deal with people who see you as a money sign, not a student, i see no care from any single person who works here. I would suggest trying another community college. College of the Canyons sounds more appealing and the workers are very kind.

Such a horrible community college. I don't know where to begin. There are literally no classes available. It's almost impossible to crash any course. This school does not allocate it's resources properly. They recently spent $52 million dollars on a new building. They should have spent it on more teachers to teach classes to offer to all the students that crash classrooms meant for 20 students. You would expect that they have a class schedule. Nope. Instead they say, "You can find classes online" or "we have a catalog of classes". Every community college in SoCal has a schedule of classes. AVC just sucks. You would also expect that after purchasing books from the bookstore you would at least get a bag. Don't even have that either. Might as well make the 30 minute trek to CoC or better yet, go 1 hour for Santa Monica.

This school has helped me so much. The teachers and counsellors go out of their way to help us. For example, many professors already worked in the field that they're teaching so they know how to better prepare us for the workplace. People want to learn in the classroom too so it's great! It's affordable too.

Why is their nursing program such a joke? I spoke to counselors, cooridinators even states chancelor and they all agree yet couldn't adjust any of avc's teas test rules? Also spoke to Elizabeth Birkley AV's ns director and she told me all the students tell her they will commute and finish regardless of her..? Guessing negativity. Still no nursing dean. She also said talkin to the science deans useless just crediting herself I guess.. seriously its awful this lady dont give a rats a** why is she in the middle of it all...........?

Good college, though, you can't get any signal within the college if your carrier is AT&T. I don't know if this is a problem for other cellular carriers, but if you want to hangout at AVC for any reason, go somewhere else with cellular signal.

Great school with lots of classes to offer. I only gave 4 stars due to the college being overly populated making it impossible to get into a core class. That's the only down fall of this college.

Where the hell do I begin? They randomly drop your classes (when you pay ALL your fees) even when you have priority registration. They make you retake the class below the one you dropped. Wonder why there are people that spend up to 4-6 years here? If you're in Lancaster with reliable transportation, go to CoC. Don't gamble with these scam artists.

This is only a community college but the way the directors and higher management act, you'd think you're at havard university but its not like they'd strive to help achieve your goals. They all act like power hungry monkeys and if you're not sucking up, forget it and even then all your hard work and efforts go to waste and this college just sits there taking up space.

Had some amazing professors teach me here. Some better than others. Wish it had a better cafeteria on south end near registration. Lines can be long. Over all a great experience. Sucks how you can never crash classes.. theres never enough of them and school spends all their money remodeling and I'd have to spend all mine driving to another college like COC. So yeah this college is looking better then my future.

I had the worst experience with a counselor there. I didn't know what I was doing and I FINALLY got an appointment to see a counselor. I was so disrespected by this counselor I had to get up and leave my appointment. Then the AVC website came out with Degree Works which was an answer to my prayers. It told you exactly what classes you needed to take and how long it would take you to get all the classes done. BUT for some reason they got rid of it!! Now I have no idea what classes I need to take and I don't want to see a counselor because they're so evil.

Antelope Valley College is.. an interesting place. Most all the teachers there love their job and teach with a passion, even if some have dry lectures and are somewhat strict. You'll see a lot of personalities there. Some of the students are neat, others are wallflowers. If you know anything about Lancaster, it's not the most extravagant city. Then you have the staff, like counselors and the people at the admission desk. They all seem so 'busy'. I had made an appointment to see any free counselor, I was very flexible. The first time I got a call asking to reschedule, then the second time I came in and rescheduled once more- with a new counselor, then the third time I show up and wait for my appointment and it turns out they overlapped my appointment with another student. They choose to help her and asked me to re rE REschedule my appointment. All I wanted to do was discuss my future at AVC and layout a student educational plan. Staff: 6/10 Teachers: 8/10 Student Body: 7/10 Food: 8/10 Bookstore: 8/10 Location: 6/10 Classes: 6/10 Campus: 7/10 Hope that was helpful!

The environment here is content and chill. The staff here is 50% friendly and understanding and the other 50% staff here is usually student workers who have attitudes and don't know what they're talking about. The classes here are good, just show up and do all of your homework. Overall, this community college is a good one. They have updated a lot within the last few years.
