Ava Gene s is one of my favorite restaurants on earth. Which is tough, because I live about 1,000 miles south of it. I discovered this place on a birthday trip to Portland with my wife and we had one of the best meals of our lives. We ordered every vegetable and every salad. Oh my god you have no idea how much meticulously farmed produce can mean to a dish.
This year for her birthday I dreamt about how nice it would be to go again but in addition to that pesky thousand-mile commute, there happens to be a global pandemic going on. So I hit Ava Gene s up to see if they would be crazy enough to overnight me a full meal kit so I could prepare a stunning, restaurant-quality birthday meal at home. In the spirit of incredible service, they did it. Mains, salads, and desserts with every single ingredient perfectly measured and perfectly packed, with detailed instructions that it would have been impossible to screw up. They even slid a fancy little candle in the box because romance. This is not a service that they offer. It s absolutely not scalable. It was a significant amount of extra work to assemble this kit and figure out how to ship it and yet, they were thrilled to do it because this restaurant not only has the best food on the west coast, it also has the best people. Incomparably great food and unmatched service. I cannot wait to be seated in that dining room again. It s well worth the 1,000 mile trip.

Fantastic experience. Beautiful decor and ambiance was warming. Staff was on top of everything and made sure we had a great dinner. Cocktails were unique and the food was freshly made, including the pasta. Desert was creamy and sweet. Would recommend this highly!

We discovered this place the old fashioned way, walking by one balmy summer evening. It was dinner time on the weekend so there was a bit of a wait but it was seriously worth it! We were seated at the counter (pro tip: they don t do reservations at the counter, but you can request it if you call in and they will do their best to accommodate) which was perfect because we got to see ALL the delicious dishes come out. Our enthusiasm was so great that we even got a few tastes of things they had made extra of. We each got a cocktail and several dishes to share with a bottle of wine and the bill was completely reasonable. We went there again, recently and had a similar experience: delicious veggie-centric dishes (they have excellent meats too, but they are known for their creativity with the vegetables), friendly, knowledgeable service and good prices. I will visit Portland just to have dinner here!

This is a wonderful restaurant with a constantly changing menu, close attention to seasonal opportunities and a knowledgeable staff. The small plates are great to share but consider ordering two if there are four of you. Order things you do not normally eat. Highly recommend.

This is a review for the new division street grocer in the old ava gene's building. We had two sandwiches: The Parisian and the BLT. The BLT was phenomenal with really juicy fresh tomatoes and high quality cured bacon cooked crispy but not burnt. It also had a really tasty herb aioli and good bread. The Parisian was loaded with good ham and brie and tasty mustard. The bread was a little too tough for my taste. We also got some rosemary fries which were amazing! Crispy with a soft interior and lots of yummy herbs and just enough salt. Perfect on their own or with a little of the included aioli or ketchup. The prices are a little spendy but everything is really high quality and tasty, and the portion sizes are very good. The person at the counter happily answered all of our questions, and even though the food took a little while to be ready everything was fresh. i look forward to trying the pizzas.

We had a great experience at Ava Gene's. The service was great, the plates arrived in no time, and the food tasted amazingly. The Burrata and the Ravioli were definitely my favorites. They have a great selection of wines and cocktails. We had a reservation so we didn't had to wait for a table.
