Even having visited the AWM regularly, our family is always happy to go back. The Last Post Ceremony at the end of the day is also worthwhile. Each day a different soldier is honored in the ceremony and, if they have living relatives, they are invited to attend.

Very amazing place. This is well worth the time to walk around and read about our history. The volunteers working here do an amazing job and listening to their stories just adds to the special feeling you get here. The dawn service on Anzac morning here is something I will never forget.

The Australian War Memorial is Australia's nationa...

The Australian War Memorial is Australia's national memorial to the members of its armed forces and supporting organizations who have died or participated in wars involving the Commonwealth of Australia, and some conflicts involving personnel from the Australian colonies prior to Federation. The memorial includes an extensive national military museum. The Australian War Memorial was opened in 1941, and is widely regarded as one of the most significant memorials of its type in the world.

The Memorial is located in Australia's capital, Canberra, in the suburb of Campbell. The Australian War Memorial forms the north terminus of the city's ceremonial land axis, which stretches from Parliament House on Capital Hill along a line passing through the summit of the cone-shaped Mount Ainslie to the northeast. No continuous roadway links the two points, but there is a clear line of sight from the front balcony of Parliament House to the War Memorial, and from the front steps of the War Memorial back to Parliament House.(Wiki..)

The exhibits are very well done and cover history in great detail. Be prepared for crowds as entry is free, more than a gold coin donation is well deserved, even an ordinary Friday morning as it opened it was full of people and school tours. You need a minimum of four hours but there is enough to see in a full day if you take the time to read many of the excellent interactive information screens available

The war memorial is a place I often visit, as I live not too far away from it. It always has some new things to share. It is a beautiful monument to all the men and women who have served under the Australian flag. The features, exhibitions and talks are always so in-depth and we'll thought out. Not only a beautiful piece of stonework and history, IT CAN FIT A WHOLE FREAKIN' LANCASTER BOMBER IN IT! HOW IS THAT NOT AMAZING!?!

Beautiful serene place, the staff could not have been more helpful. They assisted me in putting poppies on the memorial wall for every WW1 soldier from Eden who died. Then every one of my family who died in the same conflict.

Detailed and extensive war memorial and museum. If you are there around closing time (16.45pm) you can pay your respect at the daily Memorial ritual for one of the fallen Australian soldiers of the world wars. Very impressive!

Museum is much bigger than the building suggests and one could easily spend the day here and still not cover it all. Entry is free (please remember donations). Only negative is the restaurant kitchen (poppy's) was closed (at 3pm) with no reason given and very abrupt staff who made me feel it was an inconvenience for me to be there and baulked at the mere suggestion of heating a ham croissant.
Mesuem is fantastic and definitely worth a visit

An incredible place of remeberemce and tribute to our fallen heroes. There is so much history and Australian culture to unpack here. The guides are informative and passionate. There is so much content that is on rotation so it seems always to be fresh. You could spend days hearing the stories of the Anzacs and our more recent/current service men and women. Just an amazing heartfelt experience.

Beautiful and thought-provoking. It's hard to express the emotion evoked when you see the evidence of the tremendous sacrifices of the thousands of service men and women of this country. A must-see for anyone visiting Canberra. Be warned, it's much larger and more involved than I initially thought so expect to spend at least half a day here.
